  • Phil and Paul treated us great. I wanted Mitsubishi mini-splits and my wife was skeptical. Phil showed her the units involved and we are very glad to be free of the gross, leaky, 35 year old ducts in this house. They did two installations for granny unit and main house...about 3500 sq ft.

  • We are very pleased with Phil and his crew at SLOCO.  A year and a half ago we met with him about HVAC for an addition we were putting on our house.  He sells many different kind of systems, but we decided that the Mitsubishi mini-split system fit our house well.  We get over 100 degrees in the Summer and in the 20's in the Winter on occasion and the systems have been able to keep up with both the heating and cooling just fine.
When we started to remodel the main house, Phil had originally suggested a significantly expensive, but very efficient propane-fired furnace.  After an energy audit (suggested by him,) he realized that the improvements were going to significantly reduce the size of system we needed and sold us a mini-split system that saved us about 40%.  COnsidering that we are on solar now, that 40% savings is compounded by the propane savings of about $1200/year.
I only gave a "B" on punctuality because a guy had to run out for parts or something once and I'm worried that the review won't be considered trustworthy if I gave all A's.
We've been in over two years of remodel h*** and I have a long list of sub-contractors I intend to character assassinate on Angie's List later, but I wanted to publish  the best reviews first:
Phil has been great to work with, saved us money, and I would unreservedly recommend him and SLOCO.

  • They first determined that it was low on freon and when they started to fill it with freon they found that the pressure was out of whack so then they found that no filter had been installed by the builder. It had some kind of damage had gotten in, a rock or metal part, and caused blockage. They quoted us a couple of thousand of dollars and we elected to go with a new unit. The repairman came at 6 pm because they had a shortage that day. I had scheduled a tuneup and our air conditioner failed before they came. I told them I didn't want to reschedule because our air conditioner was broken and it was 98 degrees. They had someone come out and he did and he stayed until the guy came to give us a quote and get a new system. Dean was the repairman and he told us an awful lot of stuff before Don came. We sat with him and Dean stayed the whole time. We liked what they had to say so then Dean went out and got us an air conditioner from Home Depot so that we could survive until they could get us a new unit in. They also said that if the little air conditioner didn't help while we were waiting that they would put us up in a hotel which amazed me. I didn't want to do that, it was too drastic for us, and it cooled off that night anyway. The next day was hot. Don said he would call me right after his meeting to see when he had an opening within the next 3 days to install and he called me right after 8 and said they had an opening at 9 that morning and they could come out. They did. It took them at least 6 hours. They found that they couldn't put in the kind of thermostat that they wanted to. They needed 6 wires and they only had 5 so they gave us 2 choices. They could put in a 4 wire for free or they could put in an updated ones that is a remote for your iPhone or computer for $300. We said, no, we would just go with the 4 wire. A little while later they said that we couldn't get the 4 wire to work so we got the upgraded one for free. We have been very happy. We had the inspector out from the county last week and she told me she just loved working with them. They didn't charge any service fees, we just got a contract with them that includes the maintenance fees and the warranty.
We have had this problem in our house since we moved in 9 years ago, it's a brand new house, 2 story. All of the air would flow downstairs and would freeze us out and it was loud and wouldn't come upstairs. So we blocked off all of the vents but one and that made it really loud downstairs. Now we have this new 2 fan thing and it runs real low and it's quiet and it balances the temperature and we get to have constant air filtering because the fan isn't too noisy and I need that because I have some allergy issues.
I don't know how to compare on price. They did say that if I got another bid within 6 months that was the equivalent or the same kind of deal that they would give me a rebate.

  • Called him at 845 am and fixed by 930am. Checked out my filter and vents nd changed filter that was thick with dust. Gave tips on how to keep a/c in good repair and what to look for when needs service. Repaired condenser when could have easily charged for new fan motor as well. Good guy. Efficient, prompt and honest.

  • I received a card in the mail that said they would provide an air conditioner inspection and maintenance for $79.  I made an appointment for June 4 between 9am and 11am.  They called around 10am and asked if I could reschedule to between 12pm and 3pm.  They said they would waive the $79 fee.  (Their advertising says if they are late you do not pay).  I said OK see you between 12 and 3.  At 3:20 I called them.  They said Oh! so sorry! We can have someone come out right now!  The only problem was that I needed to be somewhere else at 4pm.  So I told them to forget it.  They called the next day June 5 to ask if I wanted to reschedule.  I didn't have the guts to tell him "yeah if you do it for free."   So I declined their offer.

I must say however, that I have heard from other people who have used them that they do good work.  An acquaintance of mine had a whole house central air/heat system installed and he was very satisfied.
