California Security Pro - ADT Authorized Dealer
One wireless sensor didn't work after two days. Had to be replaced. ADT corporate and Dealers have different and confusing promotions. Corporate promotions are better. Didn't get a $100 visa promotion offered. Would like to wait for 90 days to see system performance.

Customer support was superb, I called mainly to test the motion detectors and had some questions on the equipment and emergency procedures.
Installation was a breeze, no wiring of any kind needed for setup, all connected by cellular. Equipment was good quality.  You can set or disable any sensor remotely from the control panel, mobile or PC. On "Stay Home and Armed" mode, the motion detectors are disabled, but the app still records the tiimes when it detects motion,  gives you a warm feeling to know its working properly. Have not had any false alarms. After the 30 days free trial, I signed up for the monthly subscription.
Highly recommend getting the Interactive option.

    Protect Your Home
Nice installer, but he talked too fast as did my neighbor, in explaining codes and passwords, so my notes are not good enough for me to remember correctly. I'm worried I may do something wrong in using the alarm and have the police show up. The company sign out front looks good and my windows and doors are well marked. I called the company about something else, and got the idea the idea they would not be able to help me with this. So....take good notes and make them slow down with explanations.

    Link Interactive
I did a lot of research before deciding on a home security system. I looked into Xfinity Home, ADT, and a few other smaller outfits. I went with the Link system through Costco because it offered a great deal for the price. Link is basically an Alarm.com dealer, a cellular-based alarm and home automation system, completely wireless (except for the control panel, which needs to be plugged in). No wired sensors or professional installation necessary!

The system itself cost about $200, including the motion sensor, 3 sensors, wireless thermostat, 3 door/window sensors, smoke/heat detector, and 2 lighting modules, and is practically infinitely expandable. If you don't mind self-installation, it's a truly excellent system. Every component can be monitored through smartphone, tablet, or computer. My favorite part is the thermostat, which is every bit as good as the Nest thermostat, if not better. Maybe not as slick (not designed by Apple), but has all the functionality at a fraction of the price. It can be automated based on your (phone's) location, and can be controlled remotely.

I had one false alarm, which was my fault. But I was called and texted promptly when it happened, so now I know the system works. In short, I'm very happy so far.

    BD Home Improvements
Bruce was incredibly easy to work with.  He was responsive by phone, and in fact kept calling until we actually connected.  I really appreciated that.  He was also accessible by email.  We set up a day where he could do all the jobs at once.  Two days beforehand, he called to confirm the day and time as well as what materials he would need.  (In the case of the anti-tip device on the stove, he said he had not done one before.  I sent him a blog post showing step by step instructions on how it should be done, but left it up to him as to whether or not he felt comfortable doing it. )  The jobs that he could not do (reconnecting vents in crawl space, restaining our front door) he gave us referrals of people who could do them.  They turned out to be just as nice and just as easy to work with!
On the day of, Bruce and his helper arrived right on time.  All the work went according to plan and well under his estimated time.  (He likes to estimate on the conservative side so that people know the maximum cost.)  He did end up feeling like he could install the anti-tip device and it went smoothly!
Throughout the day, he was really pleasant to work with, keeping me updated and asking me any questions if situations arose.  (For instance, in routing the dryer vent he and his helper asked me exactly where I wanted it to come out.)  He seems to have a great work ethic, and a very professional and friendly demeanor.

It costs about $35 a month and a couple of hundred dollars to install the system.  They are okay; nothing good or bad.  The reason I went with that system was because it does not run on the house power like other systems.  Their service and customer support are adequate.  They haven’t done anything extraordinary bad or good.  Their price is competitive.  They respond right away.

    Case Design Remodeling
I had a few odds and ends jobs that would have taken me more than a few weekend days to figure out how to complete.  I did not know any reliable handymen around the area and joined Angie's List to find the best people for my needs.  I was glad to have found CASE.  I called one day during lunch time and left a message and was surprised that Jill returned my call within 10 minutes.  After describing the various jobs,  she indicated that they would be able to do the tasks, but the earliest appointment would not be available for another two weeks.  This was fine with me as I was only too happy to have found someone who did not dismiss my tasks as being "too small".
Jill called on the business day before the scheduled appointment to confirm that Jeff would arrive at 8:00 am.  I was accustomed to people on service calls being late and was once again pleasantly surprised when Jeff rang my doorbell at 8:00 am sharp.  Of the four tasks I listed, his only concern was the installation of the programmable thermostat that I purchased -- he wanted to ensure that it is compatible with my existing central air unit.
Jeff was able to complete the first three tasks within 50 minutes.  (I should point out here that a previous handyman, not associated with CASE, was unsuccessful in his attempt to replace the hard wired smoke detector and was this close to not being able to put it back the way it was.) The thermostat installation ended up taking Jeff all of 20 minutes.  After everything was completed, Jeff went through each of the tasks to describe what he had done and things that I should be aware of.  The explanations were quick and concise, and he didn't make me feel like an idiot.  Jeff also made sure to clean up any debris from the jobs, a little thing which I didn't mind doing myself since he barely made any mess to begin with.  And speaking of cleanliness, I also appreciated how Jeff took an extra few seconds to wipe his shoes thoroughly on the welcome mat whenever he entered / re-entered the house.  (yes, the little things do count.)
Overall, a very positive experience.  Kudos to Jill White for the prompt response and appointment confirmation.  Kudos to Jeff Schroeder for his professionalism and positive attitude.  The slightly higher rates charged is more than justified by the quality of work and my ease of mind that none of the tasks will need to be re-performed.

    Adanac Fire Protection Inc
The estimate and design portion went very well. The installation went well. We ran into a rather-unique problem where the system was not passing the fire safety inspection because there was a chemical compatibility question regarding the CPVC pipe that they chose and the attic insulation which was to be installed directly next to their pipe. Adanac put some effort into getting the certificates to resolve this issue, but they didn't do nearly enough. After several months of inaction, I had to get involved -- making phone calls to the CPVC pipe manufacturer, insulation manufacturer, the City Fire Inspector, and the contractor myself. I lost a lot of time b/c Adanac was not taking responsibility to get the issue resolved in a timely fashion. But I got the issue resolved, they finished the job, and it all looks good now.

    AEC ALARMS
The quality of the service is in general good. We only have the occasional alarm and in general they handle them correctly. There was one instance where they did not follow the agreed protocol in response to an alarm. Now the problem -- they just notified me that they are changing the billing system and they want permission to automatically deduct the monthly fees from my bank account. I do not like giving this authorization to vendors and I rarely do it. The alternative to giving them this authorization is to pay an extra $3 per billing period. In my case this is effectively a 2.5% price increase. Their service is already expensive compared to competitors and in an industry where costs are going down due to automation and technology this is unacceptable. Switching to automatic billing should reduce costs not increase them!! I feel that they are taking advantage of the fact that it is difficult to switch monitoring service providers -- and they make it difficult by not providing the information I need to switch. (I own the hardware so I am free to switch) To add insult to injury the authorization form is very broad and effectively gives them authority to withdraw funds from my bank account on a regular basis in unspecified amounts!!

    Larry's Handyman Service
He is a careful and deliberate worker. The towel bars were on irreplaceable old tiles in an old bathroom which is why I put off installing them. He didn't crack the tile. He came out to the house for a free estimate first. He read all the instructions and inserts for all the projects and advised us where to place the smoke alarms. It took him a little longer than he expected so he didn't charge us for all the extra hours. I feel like we got great value and all those pesky undone things out of the way. I would definitely use him again.
