Hardware Store reviews in Stockton

The staff at Home Depot Inc were really helpful. Staff response kind of depends on whether there's a staff member there in the area at the time I go in. We had some discussion around the calculations. He calculated it on paper. The computer spits out another number. The machine was more accurate than the human. I think because they didn't measure the house it led to the variations.

I was kind of bummed at Lowe's because they don't stock Grade A 2x4 2x6's. They always say Grade 2 is the highest grade for those sizes. But that seems to be true through the region. To try to find a 2x6 that's grade 1 seems to be impossible. Unless I went to a lumber yard or traveled out of town. Grade 1 is more finished. So a 2x4 stud for wall building, it is semi-smooth but you wouldn't use it to do finished work with. It would need a considerable amount of sanding and planing. Grade 1 has been sanded and planed pretty much ready to stain and finish. Grade 2 you have to do more work. You have to spend a good deal of time at each place flipping through the stores trying to find the flattest piece, because this isn't furniture grade wood. I'm trying to force wood that wasn't made to be used for furniture to be used as such.

The design consultant came to the house, and we told him what we had in mind for our kitchen window.  He immediately made a suggestion that would enhance the window appearance while at the same time save us  money.  We were impressed with his  integrity as an honest and respectable business man.  We then went through his sample blinds together and made our choice.
He promised it would be ready in two weeks.  However, he had it made and installed in just 10 days.  We were more than happy with this company.

As expected, this store was easy to get to and easy to get out quickly. Unlike larger chain hardware stores, you don't get lost or side-tracked. We were helped by the staff to find what we were looking for, which helped speed things up as well. We were able to find the drill bits and drain strainer we needed, but not the cabinet latches - we wanted something specific. They have plenty of basic items, but for something more specific, their limited inventory could be a problem (which is why I gave them a lower score for "Quality". We would certainly go there again for other basic items.

Their staff is very helpful. They don't treat women like they are stupid. They carry the basics for almost any repair. They have stable, knowledgeable staffing. I will continue to shop here in the future.

This store has the worst customer service in Stockton. I won't go to this store anymore, even though it's five minutes from my house. Instead, I drive about 20 minutes away to the Lowe's on Eight Mile Road. I've never had a good experience at any Home Depot, especially this one. I'm not knowledgeable about home improvement stuff, but try to do some things on my own. Whenever I went in there with a question, I was treated like an idiot. And that's only when I could find somebody to help me at all. I'd usually wait about 15 minutes of being ignored before I'd go hunt somebody down, only to be treated like an idiot. The people who work at this store are rude and unpleasant. I complained to the corporate office, then went into the store a few months later to see if it had any effect. The staff was still rude and ignorant. Do not shop at this store if you are not some home improvement geek who doesn't need help with anything, because if you have even the most simple question, you'll be made to feel like an idiot. That's if you can get any service at all.

When we moved to Stockton three years ago and bought a "fixer-upper" (1920 CA bungalow), Valley Lumber was recommended by countless locals as the place to go for supplies and help. They weren't wrong. When it comes to real purchases, I always take by business to Valley Lumber - I only go to the home supply stores when there isn't really any other option. Valley Lumber can be crowded at times, but if you can wait a couple minutes for one of their employees to be freed up, it's well worth it. They always bend over backwards to make sure I get what I need and I've never left frustrated or unsatisfied. I certainly can't say the same for the big chain stores that Valley Lumber unfortunately has to compete with. These guys are the real deal - old school service - and deserve your business. Period. It's really important that we support our local hardware stores. We already lost another local lumber store; don't let Valley Lumber die too.
