    Simple Builders
We were looking to have popcorn ceilings removed from three rooms in our house. We researched four different contractors for the job and Simple Builders was the first estimate we received. Able and Alma were the representatives that came to do our estimate. They were both very pleasant and demonstrated a lot of knowledge. They answered all of our questions and explained exactly what they could do for us. The written estimate they provided us was very detailed listing each item separately to make it clear we understood what to expect. We followed up with three other estimates. In the end, Simple Builders estimate was neither the cheapest nor was it the most expensive. We chose to go with Simple Builders mainly because we liked their detailed estimates and we really liked Abel and Alma. After selecting them, the owner Gil Mimran came to meet with us to discuss the project. We learned they were a new company and his passion for making things simple to understand for his customer really made us feel good about our choice. In the end, we are so happy we chose Simple Builders. The project was estimated to take a week and was completed in 8 days. Most of the work was done while we were out of town. We had a family member overseeing the project while we were gone. We were getting reports about how incredibly hard Abel and Alma were working and how clean they left things when they finished each day. The fact that the two of them were able to complete the entire job by themselves was nothing short of amazing. They worked long hours and made sacrifices in order to complete work in the downstairs rooms in time for our return home. This allowed us to have rooms to sleep for all of us including my sister that spent the night with us before returning home the next day. The last four days of the project, they continued working while we were in the house. Watching how hard and clean they worked was really something to see. They were very meticulous in making sure the work was as perfect as possible. We cannot stress enough how impressed we were with both Abel and Alma. We highly recommend Simple Builders to anyone who is looking to do any type of project. If you are also lucky enough to get Abel and Alma on your project, we guarantee you will be very satisfied. Any future work we need done, Simple Builders will be the company chose.

    Argos Construction
I interviewed a lot of contractors, Viktor included and ended up at first going with someone else. Within two weeks I had fired the first contractor and reached out to Viktor for a second look. I had originally not chosen him due to somewhat to a lower bid but mostly that the other contractor had promised connections to suppliers and design services. None of those materialized so I came back to Viktor and glad I did.
Viktor wanted to meet again to realign on the details and to update the estimate. He was very available, very flexible and worked around my availability always. He came over nights and weekends, whenever worked for me. It was refreshing.
I opted not to stay in my house during the remodel being that I only have one bathroom and it was being worked on and I have a small dog that normally has run of the house that I didn't want getting in the way. He didn't ask me to leave but it allowed his team to work off hours and even weekend when they wanted and get work done faster.
I live in a condo so I was worried that my neighbors would be disturbed but I checked in often and all of them said that Viktor and his team were very respectful, kept common areas clean and managed noise and mess very well. They kept as much of the mess as they could limited to the garage (construction is dusty but that's the nature of the work).
What I liked most about Viktor was that he was reasonable and worked with me when issues came up. For example, my floors were big porcelain tiles and once installed as I directed didn't lay even. I talked to the store that sold them to me and they recommended a different install design. Viktor tore up what had been installed so far and redid the floors to the new design, and he split the cost of replacement tiles with me. Another time I was sure someone had taken my vacuum. I couldn't find it. Nothing had gone missing so far so I was worried and let Viktor know. Without hesitation he said he would take care of it. He didn't know where it was but he didn't haggle about it. I found it later that night (behind a door in a spare room, I had missed it) and apologized for my mistake. He was great about it. No sweat he said.
I chose Argos because Viktor is the owner, I worked directly with him from the estimate to the day to day questions and communication, payments - all of it. Of course he had help and lots of trades worked here but I dealt with him for any questions or issues. I trusted him and he didn't let me down.
All in all, I've got a great new kitchen, beautiful work and an updated bathroom.

    David E Conroy Construction
First I would like to apologize to David E. Conroy & his team because this review is long overdue. After talking to several recommended contractors, no one gave me a description in sync of what I had in mind for my very outdated kitchen, so I decided to join Angie's List and try my luck here. Though there were many good contractors reviewed, I decided to call David because of the great "local" reviews and was impressed of his response to negative reviews. He responded immediately and the minute I met him I felt very comfortable and we developed a rapport immediately, and finally I heard what I have been waiting for to hear: to get rid of all the eyesores that has been bugging me since I relocated to this house from NYC. I did not know what a renovation entails because all my life I've been an apartment dweller, so I was shocked when I came home one day and the whole kitchen was gutted and then realized why Dave wanted to know my timeline - which I really didn't have because for me as long as he build my dream kitchen with the little space he had to work with, the timeline is "whenever". I'm also lucky because my family lives nearby so cooking & eating was no problem. Dave assembled a great team that are experts in their own field and good people too: Kit & his team (electrician), Chris (flooring), Roberto & last but not least, Alfonso (his right hand - a 1 man team in himself). Trust is not an easy thing to give but with this team no second thought - just gave them the key so they could come and go and they always made sure the house is secured before they left. As I've read and heard renovations don't always go smoothly and this one is no exception: asbestos have to be removed from the ceiling and just as the job got on the way again - they found asbestos under the carpet. In the beginning I did have a budget but when I started shopping around for the appliances, cabinets & other essentials that Dave recommended I soon realized that my dream kitchen is going to cost me, but then I decided not to skimp and followed his recommendations which to this day I don't regret at all especially with the appliances - I'm a baker and like to experiment cooking so it's been great. Dave also went with me to vendors that he knew and was a tremendous help with my indecision's. I think that Dave regretted taking me shopping because when I saw something I liked it would mean an add-on & more work for them - like opening the ceiling & wall again. The team became my family and we had a good time during the duration of the project. Dave also went out of the way to have certain things fixed in and out of the house - for this I will forever be grateful. In the course of the renovation he also noticed that the exterior painting was not done properly and that the beams were rotted so that was added to the project too. I can go on and on but the gist of it is that I have a fantastic, functional and spacious kitchen that I enjoy looking at everyday. The beautiful granite and back splash complement each other; the cabinets - what can I say...the oversize sink, etc. My house also looks great from the outside with the new paint that took me so long to decide on which color. I'm just sorry I still can't figure out how to attach before & after photos...maybe will update one of these days with the photos. I will definitely call Dave again for future projects.

    Synergy Co
We called Synergy for asbestos abatement in our condo.  Tyren came out the next day to give us an estimate on a Friday.  My husband had been calling him all weekend, waiting for an estimate, that he said he would be able to give us Friday afternoon.  He never got back to us.  We were about to use another company as we were on a time crunch to get our condo ready.  But Monday morning, we heard from Tyren.  Estimate was reasonable and they were able to get started on the work next day.  Asbestos guys came in Tuesday morning, right at 8am.  Got started immediately to cover up everything.  They came back Wednesday for the actual abatement, right on time again at 8am.  They got done pretty quickly, before 5pm.  Ceilings looked good.
Thursday morning, I was expecting the drywall guys (different crew from asbestos guys) to come on time at 8am.  However, they didn't make it till 11am.  I understand there's traffic and things happened.  A courtesy phone call would have helped.  The guys were really nice though, so couldn't be too upset.  They refinished our ceilings.  I believe they had to take an extra day.  So the job was a 4 day job, rather than the 3 days.  If the job gets done correctly, can't blame 'em for the extra day.  They used "knock down" to refinish the drywall.  However, the next day, parts of the ceiling started to crack in some spots.  It wasn't horrible but I wouldn't be able to live with it.  I believe the issue was that it was painted with ceiling paint and the knock down finish wasn't dry yet and there was some moisture in our condo and outside during this time.  This added to the cracking.  My husband called Synergy to let them know.  The project manager, I believe his name was Ron, came to take a look at it.  He was very courteous and apologized for it.  He said he'll send his drywall guys out again to fix the problem.  And as a thank you/apology, they agreed to remove the asbestos that was left in our heater vents at no add'l cost, which we couldn't get cleaned by our HVAC guys because of the asbestos.  We were told it will take about two days to fix and finish the job.  Same drywall guys came and just as nice as the last time.  They brought some heavy duty heaters to help dry up everything properly.  They were able to get the work done within one day, instead of the two days.  All looked great!!  No cracking!
Overall, they got the job done and were true to their word.  Although, they were extra days added to the job and set us back with our move-in date and all the contractors working in our home, it was all worth it.

I've been doing a pretty major remodel on my condo - new flooring throughout, new lighting, new fireplace, new crown molding, and painting. I originally hired Carlos nearly 2 months ago to paint a few rooms. When I saw on his website that he could do crown molding as well, I asked him to do that first. My flooring (done by a different vendor) was not complete at that point, so painting would have to wait until that was done.
The crown molding looks absolutely beautiful! Every corner is perfectly liined up, and even though my ceilings are not completely level and flush, Carlos was able to magically line up the moldings so that they look perfectly straight. He has an amazing eye for detail and no matter how much I stare at the moldings (which I do a lot from my bed), I have yet to find any issues at all with them.
As for painting, his crew did a great job on that as well! Carlos was very patient with me despite repeated delays on getting started due to numerous issues with my flooring vendor. Several times, I scheduled Carlos and his crew to start painting on a specific day, only to find out that day or just before that the flooring vendor had more issues and was not able to get the baseboards installed correctly in time as promised. This was a hassle for Carlos, I'm sure, because he had scheduled his crew to begin working on this project, and he had to find something else for them to do. I am very grateful to Carlos for his continued patience and not adding to my stress level which was high due to the (still) ongoing flooring issues.
Another great thing - Carlos is great about communicating. He will call or email you back, normally within a few hours during a project, but there may be a bit more of a delay if you don't have an urgent message and he's working a lot of hours on another project. His crew was very respectful, they showed up when they said they would, and cleaned up after themselves. I've never hired professional painters before, so I don't know if this is standard or not, but they covered EVERYTHING in my place that wasn't getting painted. They made a cool pattern with paper taped together over all of my floors and the rest of my stuff was put in the center of each room and sealed up in plastic.
I highly recommend (Carlos) Olguin Drywall and Painting! I've already hired him back to do more work!

Danny's a great contractor that's really passionate about his work. He's easy to work with and is very understanding and flexible with budgets, timelines, and schedules. He's very detail oriented and brings years of experience to your vision so that you get the most for your buck. Our project ran a few weeks longer than originally expected but I think that's the norm with remodeling rather than the exception. He was always willing to go the extra mile and is an expert as his craft. I've recommended him to several people and I would highly recommend to anybody looking for a good GC. Overall a terrific experience.
