    Robert Palacios Masonry Inc
We had a "garden" style 4" thick slumpstone block wall across our backyard at our Simi Valley home that had shifted on it's foundation, and was leaning outward away from our property. A neighbor that shares the wall with us got 4 quotes from local wall contractors. After the contractor we chose to do the work backed out due to a family problem, I searched for a new wall contractor, as I didn't like the other 3 bids. I am extremely happy that I found Robert Palacios Masonry. When Bob came the very next day to view the wall and give us a quote, I knew right away that Bob was the right person to rebuild our wall. None of the other 4 contractors knew what type of wall we had, nor what was the best way to restore it. Only Bob recognized right away that we had a "Proto II" wall, which is a light weight, quickly built wall that is built without rebar, and instead held together in a "post-tension" manner using threaded rods, and only mortar between the blocks. Bob told me this type of wall should not have been built on a slope grade, nor had any dirt or trees up against it. A previous owner had put in a 2' tall planter box with trees. Bad idea by them! Bob rebuilt the lower portion of the wall using 8" wide blocks, making it a true retaining wall that extends just above the planter. This saved us from having to demolish and remove our stone planter box. He epoxied in rebar posts on 24" centers inside the 8" blocks, and filled all of them with mortar cement. The top portion was rebuilt using the 4" wide blocks that his crew carefully saved when the wall was dismantled. This made the newly rebuilt top portion blend into the surrounding walls, so it didn't have a "new wall" look that unpleasantly stuck out. We also had a portion of our side wall rebuilt at the same time, and in the same manner I just described. Both look great, and as if they are the original walls. Bob and his crew are top notch professionals that were on time, clean, courteous to our adjacent neighbors, and did the job exactly as agreed upon in the time quoted, and at the price stated. No ups and extras. You could not find a better wall construction, rebuild, and repair company than Robert Palacios Masonry. Would hire them again in a heartbeat. Thanks, Bob!

Job went well. A section of my masonry block wall had lifted up several inches because of a large root from the neighbors tree. This also caused an iron gate attached to the masonry wall to not be able to latch closed. Bob (the owner) came out and gave me what I believe was a fair and reasonable estimate for the repair work to be done. The work included repouring of the footing and rebuilding about a 6 foot section of block wall with the appropriate rebar to secure the wall and resetting the gate. On the scheduled day, Bob came out with his crew on time and they started the work. They worked hard and were able to complete the job in one day. Bob and his crew were polite and professional and cleaned up after the job. I note that there was a small section of broken concrete pavement adjacent to the wall that needed to be sawcut as part of the job. At the end of the day when the crew was still there but cleaning up, I came home and noticed that a small section of the sawcut concrete was not cut evenly. It looked a little strange and I called Bob and he had his crew cut out a few more inches across so that it was straight. I feel like Bob wanted to make sure we were happy with the job and we are. The finished wall looks very nice and we hope that it will last a very long time!

    Swink's Creations
This review is based on Swinks arranging an appointment and not showing up or even calling to say they were delayed. We requested a call back intially from their website and after not receiving a response emailed them as well. Received a call/b for a appointment for Tuesday evening @ 5:15. Suffice to say not only did they not show up at the agreed upon time, but worse, not even a call stating ANYTHING. We didn't bother calling back since they had both our phone and email contact info.

    John Hopkins Construction Inc
My husband and I noticed the beautiful work that John Hopkins Construction had completed for another home in our neighborhood. They were immensely pleased and highly recommended JH Construction. We requested a bid. John was punctual and offered some ideas regarding our new patio - recommending pavers instead of stamped concrete and suggesting specific colors that would compliment our house and roof colors. He was quick to supply the estimate and it was competitive with a couple other bids that we had received. The crew arrived punctually every day, cleaned up and secured our yard at the end of the work day and completed our job well within the expected time frame. Craig was the foreman on our job - he is a skilled mason and very professional. John checked in on the progress of our job and reviewed the work at regular intervals and was quick to notice places that needed improvement. They were both as pleased as we were about the outcome of the job. The block wall is, well a block wall, sturdy and straight and it looks great. The patio and sidewalks are beautiful. My husband and I have been really enjoying the beauty. We are extremely pleased and would feel comfortable referring John to even the pickiest homeowner. Thank you John, Craig and crew.

    Arellano Masonry Inc
Jeff and his crew at Arellano Masonry was absolutely amazing.  I was unsure what to do with a large driveway and adjacent front yard space.  Jeff came up with a beautiful circular driveway design and decorative planters that complemented the color scheme at my home.  The circular driveway solved the difficult problem of getting in and out of our driveway on a busy street.  He utilized the space so amazingly still leaving plenty of areas for decorative planters for bushes and colorful gardening areas.
It changed the complete look of the front of our home.  I love it.  Highly recommend.

I had two large overgrown bushes that had broken loose of their wall anchors and collapsed due to some heavy rains that had occurred recently.  I contacted John at Landscape West through Angie?s List and he was out the next day to evaluate.  In addition to righting and securing the bushes, John recommended a trim of the rest of the plants in the back yard and also noted that the artificial turf was in need of new infill.  The quote came later that day, and he informed me that he and his crew could come take care of everything the very next day.
The next morning, John & crew arrived right on time.  They were able to re-attach the bushes to the cinderblock wall, trimmed the entire yard, removed some dead plants, and performed the turf maintenance all before lunch!
Communication was on point.  John was very quick to respond to all my communications and supervised the job personally, performing much of the work himself.
At the end of the day, my bushes were standing up again, the rest of the yard looked fantastic, and the turf looked good as new!
From first contact to job completion, the time was about 48 hours.  Very professionally done.

    Ashler Fireplace and Chimney
The project could not have gone better.  Mike is very knowledgeable and easy to work with.  He made good recommendations and we were not disappointed that we took his advice.  Once the work started it only took three working days to complete.  From estimate to completion the entire process was less than two weeks.  It would have been quicker but it took about a week for the materials to arrive.  The crew was courteous and professional and always showed up when they said they would.  They took great care to keep the mess contained to a small area and protect furniture and surrounding areas.  But best of all we are thrilled with the results.  The workmanship is excellent and we couldn?t be happier with the results.  We would call Mike again for future masonry work and would recommend him to others.
We rated price as N/A because we have nothing to compare the price to.

First, John is the most responsive contractor I've ever dealt with. Calls, texts and emails were always returned promptly. He showed up when he said he would and did what he'd said he'd do. His crew were all polite and professional. John collaborated with us throughout the process from design to post installation. He has a good eye for design, but is also open to the client's input. I would definitely hire him again and have recommended him to many others.

He advertised no job too small.  Upon calling, he stated he charged $50 for an estimate, to be taken off the total bill.  When he arrived he immediately asked for a check.
The work was to tear down a tiny 1' wide x 6' high brick wall, then rebuild it farther down the driveway.   He was to add a shorter, 1' x 4' wall on the other side to attach a gate.  I was to attach the gate.  He had to mail me the estimate for this little job. Five days later the estimate arrived.  It was for $2800.  To me it was obvious that he didn't to do this job so he made the estimate so outrageous that I'd have to turn it down.  And, of course, he kept my $50.
Others clients apparently found no faults with him.  I think it was a scam to get my $50.   I can't imagine the whole job taking more than a day.

Jaime came out and truly listened to what I wanted to accomplish.  He suggested a terrific solution and then did exactly as he suggested.  He actually finished the project one week sooner than the expectation he set.  His crew was professional, courteous, and clearly skilled at what they were doing.   They were happy to answer questions at every step of the process.  The outcome exceeded my expectations and I am not easy to please.
