    I'm a property manager who wanted to get an estimate for 2 rentals. The owner of the homes had used Scudder for their Monterey home and wanted an estimate for their rentals. The first time I was to meet with Scudder, the office messed up communications so no one showed up, I commute an hour so was disappointed. The 2nd time, a Scudder representative did show up; however, receiving a bid was harder than pulling teeth---after follow up calls, I only received a bid for one home, and none for the other. The representative was always courteous, but it appears Scudder is just too busy or not interested.

    Daniel was on time, polite, reasonably priced and nice. He clened out inches worth of pine needles clogging our gutters as well as cleaning out the dryer vent. Out dryer went from barely drying our clothes to working great gain. Highly recommended!

    I was contacted right away and the work was measured and the samples were left. The installer followed up by email about colors and gutter style. When we were on the same page for the work, it was done on time and the gutters have been great in the last couple of rains and wet, foggy mornings.

    Estimate was good, work is holding up (no leaks and it's rained a few times), good communication with Pete. Pete had not dealt with the goofy City of Seaside permit rules before, but he didn't ask for payment until all the permit nonsense was taken care of, and he made extra trips back to the house to meet with inspector and get it all done. I'm very happy with the work and the cost.

    1. I was given incorrect information on the phone; I was told the team would show up ready to work. They didn't. They showed up to do nothing more than take pictures and notes and discuss the job so a P&E guy could work up the estimate. That's OK, except that's not what I was told on the phone.  And they were over 30 minutes late.
    2.  No one ever called back.
    3.  I finally called them, reminded them about the job and asked if someone was going to call, left my name and contact number (again).  I was told someone would contact me. No one ever called, again.  If you're that busy, great, at least call.
    Because I thought I was doing business with Scudder, I didn't call other roofers, so I ended up getting more water into my house from the leaks that I called them about.
    Terrible customer service and follow-through.

    Update: Please see my comments in the "What did the provider do?" section.  No company is perfect, and Mr. Scudder's response to my experience turned me around on using Scudder Roofing in the future.

    The Healey Company Inc
    I currently live on the west coast, but came to own a family house in the South Side Slopes. By the time I acquired the house, it had deteriorated and was in very poor condition. As I really wanted to try and keep the house in the family, I realized I needed to find someone who could, at least, stabilize the house and get it into rent-able shape for me, as I would need that income to help pay for the work the place needed.
    Because I live so far away, it was especially crucial that I find someone I felt I could count on and trust. I found The Healey Company through Angie's List. They seemed perfect for the job; they are located in the South Side, they have lots of experience with working on old houses in that area, and they could even manage the rental property for me when the house was finished.
    I contacted them and soon learned that it was going to take a whole lot more money, and a whole lot more time, to do the job right. I?m a big believer in doing something right the first time, whenever possible, so I took a leap of faith (and took out a sizable loan) and embarked on this project with The Healey Company.
    I didn?t know what I was getting myself into, and perhaps The Healey Company didn?t either?taking on a complete novice client like me?but the results far exceed what I had originally envisioned. The house is beautiful and I seriously envy the tenants (the wonderful tenants that The Healey Company found for me) and look forward to someday being able to enjoy the house myself.
    Some of the plusses of working with The Healey Company: they guided me every step of the way?from helping me find a good local mortgage lender, to helping me the find insurance to cover the house while it was being renovated (a bank requirement and one of the biggest challenges). They did excellent work, fulfilling my wishes to bring as much light and as much storage space to the house as possible, and essentially turning a crumbling shell of a house into a solid, beautiful home and a credit to the neighborhood. I believe Mike Healey is an honorable person and I feel lucky to have found him and his company. Designer Christine Rider did an amazing job of finding me the best quality finishes and fixtures my budget allowed and I am grateful for her hard work, vision, good communication, and patience.
    Some of the minuses of working with The Healey Company: they are not inexpensive, but I believe, in the end, that they earned every penny and I got what I paid for (and probably then some). The project took longer than expected, but I guess with a 100+ year old house, ?surprises? are to be expected. Prompt communication is not Mike Healey?s strong suit. He always got back to me, eventually, but often not as promptly as I would have liked.

    It looks like by other reviews, he doesn't call back very many of his customers. It sounds like he needs to return calls. He should at least call to let us know that he is too busy, and to try somebody else.

    A Plus Roof Maintenance
    John arrived when he said he would to give an estimate. He seemed honest about the scope of the work and the condition of the roof. His price was within my budget after asking for other quotes. He was available to do the roof immediately and started the next day. He said he would warranty the work for 3 years. I asked if I could get that it writing. He acted if this request was odd, then said sure, but that it would just be a hand written note on the receipt.
    Again, he arrived on time and did the work quickly. Once done, I paid with a check and John left. He did have a hand written receipt with the '3 year guarantee' from leaks written on it. He said he would be back in 1 week to see how the roof was doing. He called about 1 hour later to see where I banked so that he could cash the check immediately which I thought was odd as it's never happened before with any other contractor.
    Later that night, my neighbors came over and told me that the sealant John had used had blown all over their car that had been detailed and put up for sale. I went and looked and saw that this was indeed the case. There was a fine mist of white dots all over my patio and plants as well. I called John and explained the situation. He said he would take care of it, no problem. He said to have them take it down to the car wash and he'd reimburse them for the damage. He'd see me next week when he came to check on the roof and deal with the car as well.  John never came back.  Called last night to see what was going on. John laughed, said he worked and lived in Arizona, and that he wasn't going to do anything about the car. 
    While he seemed professional upfront, I would not recommend this roofer as an honest or ethical business person. Once work was "completed", there was no accountability. I have no confidence in John's warranty of the roof. I will be following up with the BBB.
