  • I needed to purchase a receiver for use in my home theater system. My 15-year-old old receiver worked just fine, but was lacking HDMI ports and subsequently was of no use in combination with newer equipment, like a Blu-Ray player. I ordered a new receiver and made an installation appointment with AV service people at a well-known big-box electronics store. That receiver never arrived at the store for pick-up, in spite of assurances that it would be available and quot; week, so call back then.and quot; After 6 of these weekly futile conversations, I cancelled the order for the receiver and also the appointment with the store's installation people.
    I decided to investigate other vendors and service people to see if I could get a better deal on a receiver purchase and on installation costs. I ordered the receiver from an on-line, authorized dealer, at a very good price. Then I had to choose a local installer. I called Soundscape, and received prompt and courteous attention. The installer, Jason, was willing to come out that very day, even though it was late on a Friday afternoon. I told Jason that Monday would be soon enough! Jason arrived at my home at the arranged time. He sorted through my existing speakers, wiring, old VCR hookup, and new receiver/Blu-Ray connections, as well as my satellite TV and computer/router connections. Jason spent over 2 hours in my home, perfecting the system and explaining the new features to me. His fee for service was half the cost of using the big-box store installers.
    While working on my system, Jason discovered that my subwoofer was no longer functioning. He carried that heavy item out to his truck, brought it to the Soundscape store, and had a technician repair it. The technician required hours to complete the job, but I was only charged $140 for parts and service. Now my home theater system sounds great and works perfectly.
    While I was in the Soundscape store, waiting to pay for the repairs to my subwoofer, I noticed other customers interacting with the staff. It was clear from their conversations that these were long-time, loyal customers. I also noticed that Soundscape deals in sales of new equipment. The store showroom has areas set up for experiencing various combinations of AV equipment, so that buyers know what they are getting when they place their orders. That, combined with the excellent service and installation staff, made me want to become a loyal customer, too.
    If you live in the North Bay Area and need reliable, reasonably priced AV equipment, service and repair, I highly recommend Soundscape in Santa Rosa.
