    I previously had hired Mike for a smaller job at an investment property in January 2019. I like him so much, I asked him to do the entire hardscape/landscape for my newly remodeled home. The hitch: I was still working with a GC for the interior of the home, and had essentiallly "fired" the GC for the yard, so I was worried there might be hard feelings. Mike was confident he could do the work and bridge the gap between his crew and our house contractors - and he did! The two crews had to work together a number of times, sharing information about drainage plans, moving electrical under the house and out to the exterior of the patio, etc. From my perspective, it was seamless. Mike is also great about offering input on design - I was overwhelmed with taking on another design project in light of the work I was doing on the interior, and Mike handled it well - he offered suggestions, was willing to take my input and change his mind, and was flexible when I told him I wanted to "go cheap" in a portion of the yard because we were on a strict budget. We ended up with a beautiful yard and patio! Mike also thought up some budget-friendly choices for me when I asked for pavers on the patio - we did a beautiful stamped concrete that I am very pleased with. He came when he said he would, his crew was efficient, clean and friendly, and Mike himself was on-site much of the time. When I had concerns during the project, he would come right over to discuss them and make changes (if necessary), and after the project was done (and we had filled our coffers again), he added more landscaping and did the lighting for me. He will always be my go-to hardscape and landscaper!

    The team was professional but I had problems with the owner. (1) He installed a Rachio system which requires specific cell phones which I did not have. So I have never been able to control the system. (2) He was to install the system according to Santa Monica specifications and he did not do that. (3) He abandoned support of the system and I have had to monitor it manually. The job cost $3000.

    Miguel Aleman Landscaping
    Miguel is great. He���s very responsive, reasonably priced, and really knows his stuff. (Plus he���s just an all-around nice guy.) He���s also good about making suggestions proactively regarding tree-trimming, fertilizers, etc. I had a lemon tree that refused to bear fruit and within 6 months we had more lemons than I knew what to do with! My yard looks much better than it has with other people I���ve used in the past.

    Green Republic Landscapes
    Based on the positive reviews of Green Republic on Yelp and Angie's List and our initial interactions with Motti we were excited to have them landscape our front and back yard. Unfortunately, our experience was not as positive as others. The positives were: (1) that the pricing was fair and the bulk of the work was completed very efficiently. The negatives were: (1) despite telling us the work would be done by Green Republic employees all of the work was done by subcontractors with no supervision from Green Republic, (2) though most of the work was done very efficiently the last 10% dragged on for months with lots of promises that it would be finished by a certain date only to be notified of further delays at the last minute (definitely don't pay these guys until the work is complete), and (3) though we were told all the work and plants were warranted when we had issues they didn't warrant their work. Without any supervision the subcontractors did subpar work. A few examples of this were: 1) We picked out pavers and we asked them not to set them until we saw them to confirm they were the correct pavers. Instead we walked out one day to see that they were setting pavers and they were the wrong ones. They told us these were better more expensive pavers which may have been true, but they were the wrong style, so it didn't matter. We asked that they get the pavers we asked for which the subcontractor was not happy about and begrudingly did. 2) The old plants and roots were not properly removed, so within a month we had the old plants growing back through the ground cover and wood chips. 3) Drip lines were installed, but no one bothered to check if the spouts were open or if all the plants actually were receiving water and a new sprinkler controller was installed and never programmed or turned on for two weeks. Rather than provide the instructions to us they threw them out or we would have done it ourselves. 4) They installed decomposed granite, but in one area it was so thin that the first time it rained, the DG was washed away and the soil was exposed. In addition to these issues, they didn't set the pavers in a straight line, we had several plants die, and the sod that was installed developed dead spots within two weeks. We were left to deal with disgruntled sub contractors, Green republic pushed back on all warranty issues providing excuse after excuse as to why it wasn't their problem (even for dead plants that most nurseries would warrant and happily replace). For us Motti and Green Republic were a major headache. We are very disappointed particularly given all the other positive reviews.

    Reid Freeman Landscapes
    There was no designer on the team. Only a freelance horticulturalist and laborers. We were picky and unsure clients to be sure but that is where a designer should have walked us through a process. List of plants was always an issue b/c horticulturalist ordered lots but contractor said it was too many. We felt railroaded into a sparser vision than we wanted despite a clear directive for privacy on our corner lot. Citing these creative differences RF walked off $27,000 project having received nearly $21,000 (ahead of contracted payment schedule) and leaving most of work planting, no back lawn, irrigation only partly overhauled, DG only partly completed, trees left w'out irrigation. Worst aspect was having introduced us to a substantial Santa Monica water-saving rebate and vouching that his irrigation work had been done to rebate code, we found out it was miles off the mark. The city inspector told us it was totally ineligible. We spent many thousands to bring it up to the standard required. I invited RFL to guarantee the work and attend the inspection but he declined. In prior review he replied that he wouldn't walk off a contract because then he could be held to account by the contractor's board. We took him to the CSLB and in arbitration we won a refund. We are not bad people. We are not arrogant or classless. We simply wanted help from a confident professional with design skills. If you have clear vision of what you want, I dare say RFL can arrange for someone else's vision to be executed. If you are looking for dialogue and ideas, we didn't find this to be a service offered. Have since worked with someone else and the difference is night and day.

    IMMEDIATE HELP -- and they are more than just "landscapers"! After two highly-rated plumbers refused to even look at the damaged main sprinkler system valve that was suddenly pouring water, I called Barba Landscape. Less than ten minutes later, Jose (of Barba Landscape) and I had briefly negotiated and agreed on a reasonable price for the repair. Twenty minutes after I first dialed the number, a repair-person was on-site and starting repairs. Ten minutes after that, Jose called me to tell me that there was also a leaking sprinkler head -- which they would fix for free. So, thirty (30) minutes after I dialed Barba Landscape's telephone number, my original problem and a future one were being fixed. I waited a few days to see if the work would hold up. Now, I am writing this review. So if you need IMMEDIATE HELP -- call Barba Landscape. Worries over.

    All employees very professional, punctual and courteous. Work was performed efficiently and  in a way that was responsible and didn't damage existing plants or structures. Cleaned-up everyday. I had a deadline for completion that was shorter than their projected finish date. Management rearranged crews and schedules to get the work done by my deadline. I have no complaints at all. I had two other companies give me bids and when ACI arrived, their degree of knowledge and experience was immediately apparent and I signed the deal. I have no regrets and am thankful to have found them.

    I gave them specific instructions of what to do but the workers that were sent did not speak any English or could not read the instructions in English. The piping that they installed wasn't done properly and burst. They repaired it but then the same thing happened again which flooded my front yard. When the pipe burst it sprayed water all over my freshly painted house. They used a blue glue in the repair which they got on my house and also dripped it all the way from my house across the pavers in my driveway to the street. They only took partial responsibility for the water bill due to their leak. The bill was $300 that month due to all the water from the burst pipes. They were prompt in their response when I complained.

    They sent people from "Ritz" and the employee said it belonged to the
    same owner as Hammer. The employee asked for $1450 to replace it and
    change the pipe to adjust to a new width. I was surpised of the cost,
    but I had tenants living there and had no other option.
    Next day his a
    guy who said was the supervisor called me saying that the pressure
    excess made the water heater leak. They opened the water heater (without
    my permission) to "show me". The employee stated that it leaked because
    of the pressure, yet the heat exchanger was damaged from the exterior.
    The offered to changed for $6500. That's when I realized the valve was
    way overpriced.
    I ended having to replace the water heater ($1100).
    This is the cost of deciding fast without checking with Angie's list.

    We called for help and someone, I am embarrassed that I didn't write down his name, talked us through the process of re-booting our sprinkler control which had been inoperative for several days.  The little screen on the control had been flashing the code "FUS" and we wanted someone to come out and fix it (due to some ongoing family crisis we didn't feel we had the time to sort it out on our own).

    In about five minutes on the phone our "knight" talked us through the step-by-step process and we had a working system again.  There was no charge for the service.  We are enormously grateful and you can be sure we will call them again when we have any future problems with our sprinklers.
