Eye Care reviews in Santa Monica

I used to work for an ophthalmologist, back in the day when there was one doctor and a couple of employees.  I was his office manager and back office assistant.  Thought those days were gone.  But Dr. Chen has a small office where she can only see 2 patients at a time, with a lovely helper named Johanna.  The doctor took her time with my exam, and even called me a week later about a condition that we had discussed.  She is a lovely, intelligent physician.  I recommend her highly.

Hooray! I just had Lasik yesterday with Dr. Assil, and I can already see better than 20-20. It was basically painless, and today I just have a bit of cloudiness and dry eye. I am sure it's gong to settle down in a couple days like they say (I'll post an update).
The whole staff is awesome. I was terrified (like most people, I guess). But I knew I had done my research, and he is definitely rated as one of the best. In researching I read all the reviews online, and I really value the Angie's List reviews the most, so I thought I would do my part and post here. He deserves it. In my pre-op exams in the Santa Monica office he was great, taking time to answer all my good and dumb questions. The op day in Beverly Hills went great - Dr. Assil was very calming in the laser room,
explaining what was going on the whole time. Everyone is so professional, the facility is amazing, and they even have an observation area so your loved ones can watch your eye on a big screen (which kind of freaked my husband out, but I was glad he could tell me all about it).
All I can say is I waited too long to do it! But then again, the technology has improved a lot in the past 10 years, and my eye site
wasn't terrible before, so maybe it's good I waited. Now it's perfect!

Dr. Levy provides very good eye care.  I'm seeing very well with the prescription that he provides.  He corrected a few problems with my previous prescription, and the outcome has been very good.
The staff is surly -- I would say rude.  Dr. Levy is that way too -- he can be very abrupt, almost dismissive, in his communication.  There is also a bit too much emphasis on up-selling products and services that you may or may not want.
If you can get past the negatives, you'll find that you get good eye care.

This was my yearly eye exam. I returned to Dr. Nishida after spending some years with another eye doctor who is retiring. I am seeing much better with my new contacts after visiting Dr. Nishida. He is located in the Marina Del Ray Costco so nothing fancy. But the office is clean and convenient and I can do my shopping and have my eye exam at the same location. He does a great job and I feel like he cares about his patients.

I initially discovered Dr. Carolyn Wong when I accompanied my friend to help her pick eyeglasses years ago, but was not yet a patient. She has a great selection of eyeglass frames. I have always worn eyeglasses and so I am very particular. A few years ago, I was able to have eye insurance, and Dr. Carolyn Wong was a provider. My husband and I are now happy patients. She is prompt, efficient, thorough and explains everything she is doing. Afterwards, she helps you pick eyeglass frames and within 10 days, you can pick them up. My eyeglass Rx Dr. Wong has given me over the years, allows me to see well without any issues, which has been a problem in the past. I am near and far sighted as well as having a flat nose, so finding a pair of light weight frames that fit my face comfortably is difficult. I am so grateful for Dr. Wong's service and knowledge. I am so grateful for her services and the vast array of frames! It's a one stop visit for me! Thank you!

I was referred to Dr. Roopenian by a friend. Dr. Roopenian was thorough, friendly and professional. He was patient in answering my questions and I did not feel pressured by any and quot;up-selling,and quot; which I've experienced at other optometrists' offices.

Towards the end of my patience I was informed that the $412 was a fee established since this Doctor is a specialist and LASIK isn't a covered insurance expense. Never mind I actually don't need a LASIK surgery performed now and only wanted to see how my eyes have progressed since surgery almost a decade ago. Something's just not adding up here, so I'm keeping my $412 and moving on to another provider for this time.

Overall, I was seen on time--first by an optical technician, who tested my eyes to see whether I needed to update my glasses prescription. I then was seen by Dr. Stelzner, who examined my dilated eyes. The receptionists at the front desk were pleasant and effcient in obtaining my insurance information and explaining to me what was and wasn't covered.

I really trust Dr. Gardner. She's the best. She's taken care of my eyes
for a long time, and I had issues with corneal scarring that could have
developed into much worse issues without her diligence. Unfortunately,
she doesn't take insurance, and making an appointment with her ends up
being completely out of pocket for me, and her rates are expensive for
an exam. I've debated sucking it up and going back to her, but I just
don't have the means to pay several hundred dollars out of pocket.
    If
you can afford it, or have better insurance, though, I think she's the
best. She noticed things in eye exams that other doctors had missed,
such as a chronic skin condition and blood pressure spikes.

When I went to pick up my glasses, the man, who I guess is the manager, was very helpful. He was very patient when I was trying to pick out my frames. They were just kind of busy when I went to pick up my glasses. The people were pretty busy, trying to answer phone calls and get stuff done. The experience wasn’t perfect but I think it was within the normal range. I think the price was fine, and I don’t think they were overcharging.
