  • Working with Jared and his team was a dream. Jared may be more expensive then some contractors but he is worth it and you won't get any costly surprises. He is very trustworthy and conscientious. He is also very efficient and sticks close to his timelines.

  • John's jobs have gone extremely well! John does what he says he is going to do when he says he will do it and his work is top-notch. He goes the extra mile to make sure the work is high quality, will last for a long time and that the materials used are excellent. John cares about doing a great job. He also communicates conscientiously so that I know what is going on and if there are any delays, why they are happening. Another benefit of working with Crush Builders is that John is a great craftsman so the work looks beautiful. I only gave John a "good" rating on price because construction work is just expensive...you get what you pay for and even though I wish it cost less, it is worth the $$ to know the job was done right the first time.

  • Antonio Beristain is the best. He's done major and minor work for me for over a decade, and I always want him if I need help. He is not always the fastest, because he is so thorough, he doesn't take short-cuts, things get done right, and his fixes last. He is super smart, has good aesthetic sense, thinks through the work, diagnoses problems, solves hard problems, gives good advice. He notices problems and proposes solutions.

Antonio is reliable, honest beyond a doubt, and pleasant to be around. I have two old houses that have had their share of problems, complicated by age and inadequate construction, and Antonio has done a beautiful job of all manner of fixes and upgrades, top to bottom. You don't have to call him back on a job, because he does it right the first time. He's an amazing craftsman and tradesman.

  • I never bother writing reviews, and I certainly never pay to write one! ?That said, I have been SO impressed with Carl Owens, owner of Pacific Trend Buiders, his work, ethics, top quality and punctuality, ?that I felt it was important to share with others.? Many of you know that sadly the world of builders/contractors/carpenters has a reputation for not being reliable. ?Difficult to count on. Carl is so punctual that my ?husband and I would literally laugh out loud each morning as the clock struck nine o'clock ?and Carl would arrive on the dot, every day for one month straight! His attention to detail and knowledge on "how to do things correctly" is impeccable. ?He knows the codes and has a good eye for aesthetics and quality. ?He is focused, hard working, and highly efficient. ?He doesn't "rush" through the job, rather he gets it done right! As a person doing tile work he's clearly had years of experience and you can trust that you wil have a perfect job in the end. Plumbing and electrical are also perfectly done. Framing, sheet rock, painting...he also carefully and cautiously selects sub contractors for some parts and expects the same level of responsibility and quality. ? Basidcally ?I have nothing but praise for Carl, the only problem now is that he works at such a high caliber that I can't possibly imagine ever hiring anyone else to ever work here again, it's got to be CARL with Pacific Trend Builders.! I'd be happy to give a reference, show pictures etc.... ?Yana

  • John Crush helped us remodel our bathroom.  With his estimate he provided a specific list of what he was going to do.  He delivered on this list and more.  He found problems with our wiring, roofing, and plumbing (and yes, they were real problems), and took care them at a reasonable additional cost.  We had a few hiccups along the way, but John resolved these issues promptly.  He was also very easy to deal with.

  • I had many ideas for my bathroom remodel, but I also "only" had a budget of about 15k to do it.  I contacted several local contractor/designers that I found on Houzz, but they basically scoffed at my tiny budget.  I thought I found someone to do it for my budget through a recommendation, but that contractor turned out to be a nutjob.  So I found John Pauza on Angie's List and contacted him.
Let me first say that I was not planning on doing a full bathroom remodel, but my hand was forced when I literally stepped through the bathroom floor one day and realized that my fixer upper was presenting one more thing to break my bank.
John was professional and responded right away.  He came out and looked at my little bathroom; went under the house and came back with the wonderful news that there wasn't actually a subfloor under my bathroom!  The bathtub was perched across a couple joists with nothing under it.
Anyway, this was in September.  I was already in the midst of installing a new septic system (did I mention fixer-upper?) so John was honest and gave me a quote that included tying in the bathroom shower to the new septic (it was originally a sort of ad hoc greywater setup), pulling permits to do everything correctly, and he told me his schedule wouldn't allow for my job till mid-November.  This worked out fine for me, and John did call me in late October to set up a start time for the project.  He gave me a formal quote at that time, with payment terms, benchmark dates and a completion window.
The job went pretty smoothly and John was always open and honest about cost and completion.  He and his helper, Antonio, always showed up at 8am and worked through till 4pm and the job was completed on time and within budget. They hauled away all the garbage too.
John's a gregarious, funny guy who knows his stuff.  I'll give him a straight A because he worked with me on my budget, worked with the tile place and the flooring people, offered money-saving suggestions and was careful to preserve anything I wanted to reuse, such as the sink and toilet.  He is scrupulous about details and I was never left wondering about where money went or anything.  Antonio is a diligent worker who knows his stuff too.  He did all the tile-setting and did a really nice job.
The bathroom came out nicely and I'm happy to have met and employed John Pauza.

  • The work performed by the contractor was initially fine. There were several areas that wern't properly prepped so that when the finish material that was applied cured, the surface remained gritty and not glossy as the others areas that were prepped properly. After about 3 months of normal usage and proper care-taking, the finish that was applied to the tiles in the tub/shower area began to chip and peel. The contractor was notified and after a long wait, came out to refinish the areas that were peeling.

After a short while (less than month) after the repair, the tiles began to chip and peel again in the "repaired" area and now it is peeling on other areas of the tile and beginning to chip and peel on flat surfaces of the tub perimeter.

My home is a beautiful showcase for myself and my Air BNB guests and the tub/shower area in the bathroom now looks worse than ever and my house guests are complaining of how unsightly the refinishing job is and ask when it will be fixed. In my opinion the areas where the problems are occurring were not properly prepared or the material used was not the proper material for this type of refinishing or the contractor should have informed me before doing the tile work that only the tub should have been refinished.

My complaint is that the refinishing work is inferior, has failed in places long before the 5 year warranty offered by the contractor and the work continues to deteriorate in new places on an ongoing basis. The contractor has been notified by email of my issues and is not willing to refund the costs for this work and its removal.

In my opinion and in conclusion, the work done by this contractor is inferior and it has failed in looks and in performance well before the expiration of the warranty

Therefore I am asking for a full refund of $400 for the labor cost of this work, plus $56 for the refinishing material, plus $200 to have the failed refinishing material professionally removed from the tiles for a total of $656. And all of this in preparation of and take the necessary time and effort to have another contractor clean up this ongoing mess and get the job done correctly in the first place.

Thank you for your timed consideration in this matter.

  • He was suppose to provide an estimate for a bathroom remodel with basic drawings, a full set of computer-generated 3-D renderings with a signed contract, a final in-home plan review, and a $250 credit if we went with him. The Big Deal.
He showed up and threw out a figure of $25,000 for the remodel but never gave us a detailed estimate or graphic.  I asked him before he left about the drawings and he said he would email them to me.  After two weeks with no response,  I emailed him asking for the drawings and a detailed estimate but we never heard back.  It was a complete waste of $49.

  • John was great.   Very professional.  Always cleaned up every day, so my house looked as it did when he arrived.   He went out of his way to save me some $$$ and provided advice throughout the process.   He also helped with other projects around the house.  All of it was done on time and on budget.  If you need an experienced, professional contractor, John is the one you want.
