    KP Home Improvement
Ken is great. I really appreciate his eye for design and his construction techniques are very structurally solid. Finish work is superb. Cost has been very fair and Ive found, over the years, that I didnt need to get other bids. My preference was to use someone with a solid reputation and with results that I like.

    TERRY POWELL'S FENCING
The work on the fence was done well. Unfortunately, cleanup was not done professionally. A messy concrete bag was left under a fruit tree, and two piles of concrete/dirt mixture were disposed of by spreading them around my yard in 2 locations. This was weird to me, and seemed more or less like littering in my yard. I asked Terry if he could remove it, and he said he doesn't haul away dirt. I asked him if he could collect it from my yard and put it in piles, and that I would take care of getting it hauled away. He said "no" and told me I could sort through the dirt, pull out the concrete bits, and then he would remove that. This also made no sense to me since separating all of the concrete bits from the dirt would take hours. He told me that he had done me a favor by spreading the dirt/concrete around my yard and didn't seem interested in my perspective that I didn't consider his disposal method "a favor". Needless to say, concrete does not decompose, so I'm left to extract it myself.

    SIERRA AZUL PAINTING
I am very exacting in the maintenance of my home. This makes this rating of Sierra Azul even more extraordinary. Scott is a perfectionist after my own heart. I hired Scott to paint my two story craftsman home in Seabright. The sun and rain had worn through the prior paint job. My once white eaves were full of mildew. Since I wanted to be on-site for the work, Scott and I locked in on a week that worked for both of us. Scott and Mike showed up on time and his team went to work carefully power washing, sanding, caulking and prepping my house for painting. As we all know, more than half of a good paint job is prep and Scott did not scrimp there. With copper gutter I was very concerned with ladder damage. Scott took care to rig up braces for all the ladders so that I didnt have one bent gutter. The house has a lot of intricate corners. Scotts team did a great job of getting the paint in the cracks, on the edges, but not on the gutters, windows or sidewalks. They put two coats on the sun-exposed south and west sides to stand up to the weather. Our wood front porch had been bubbling up and peeling in some areas so it got some serious prep sanding before application of a new coat of deck paint. Scotts team is polite and courteous. They did not refuse a single of my requests for special attention to an eave or rough spot on the house. It is a rarity for me when I say that I am completely happy with the job Sierra Azul did on my house. Scott has my name as a reference. Mention the whale house and hell know which one youre talking about. Oh, and did I mention they vacuumed the roof and sidewalk when they were done not leaving behind a single paint chip. Its obvious why Scott gets all the stellar reviews, he loves his work and providing customers like me a wow paint job. Excuse me now, Im going out to my patio to sit and enjoy the view of my beautiful house. Thanks Scott!

    Los Gatos Fence Company
Poorly. Their communication was awful, basically nonexistent. They didn't communicate a significant delay in the start (I called). The day of the start, no one showed up, and no one called me or returned the messages I left on the office answering machine. And now that the work is done, I have a minor issue that I explained to the receptionist and no one's called me back. They also didn't know how to build the fence on a slope. Only after my neighbor explained how to do it to them were they able to complete the work.

Surf City Window & Gutter Cleaning
They did an excellent job on the windows, they were done very, very well, and the pressure washing too. I mean everything was nice and clean when they left. They could improve on the communication, meaning calling us back on when they would be here. They were here for 3 hours, it was reasonable time for the job though. We have a lot of windows. We did check around on the price. Just the call backs took a day or two, or three. Somebody came out to give us a quote and that was about 3 days before they called us back. Then they didn?t confirm if or when they were coming.

ShadeTree Canopies for COOL outdoor living space
The Shade Tree people did a great job, They even came by to check on the arbor contraction, a very good thing as I had made a mistake on my spacing dimensions. Fortunately that was able to be corrected! Once the arbor was done, the installation was fast and professional. Everything worked well and the quality is excellent. It's not an inexpensive system, but is worth the investment for long term enjoyment.

    SPECTRUM PAINTING
Bill Schroeder came recommended by my handyman, who was familiar with decks he'd seen done by Bill Schroeder's company, Spectrum Painting. Mr. Schroeder replied to my inquiry promptly and said he was booked up for two months. When I explained that I wasn't in a hurry for the work to be done but would like an estimate, he said he would come out, which he did within a few days. He measured the two backyard decks and steps that connected the two areas of the backyard. A few days later he emailed his bid for $800. Since it referred only to "decks" and not to the steps (which are not connected to either deck), I emailed for clarification: "I know that you measured the steps up to the gate between the lower and upper decks but they aren't mentioned in the description. Did you include those? Could you modify the bid to reflect them?" His reply was: "All the decks are included in the back yard." That did not address the question of the steps. I then phoned him, left a message that said his bid was good, and that I wanted to talk with him to finalize the arrangement, thinking that a phone call would clarify the question of the steps. He never contacted me again. Also, I had asked him when he visited my yard if he knew of someone who could make me a screen door. He said he did and that he would send me the person's contact information. His email that included the bid did not say anything about a carpenter, so I had also asked him about that. In his reply that is quoted above, he said, "I'm waiting to hear from my friend to see if he is interested in building a screen door. I will let you know either way." He never followed up with any additional information. This vendor began by being responsive but ended up with no follow through.

    Mandella Construction
John not only provided a professional and fair priced quote, he did alot of homework up front to make sure the new siding would match the old siding as close as possible since they do not manufacture the old siding anymore.  He also cleaned up and discarded all the old material & trash each day.  His crew was prompt every day until the job was completed.  A few months after the job was completed I noticed some caulk joints had separated so I called John. He came over quickly and examined the joints and recaulked all of them and even some that were not part of the new siding.  Again he did his homework and called the caulk manufacturer(DAP) to inquire as to why the caulk would separate so soon after applying it but of course the manufacturer explained there could be many reasons.  At the end, John refused to take any money for coming out &  redoing the joints and even the ones he replaced that were not his.  He did advise that I should have them painted quickly as that will help protect them in the future.  I would recommend John Mandella Construction based on his high degree of professionalism,  responsiveness, customer service, and fair price.

    Pacific Fence
The entire team of workers were great!  They were prompt, courteous, and efficient.  The head guy Craig was very nice, easy to work with, and listened to our needs and concerns.  I was amazed at the high quality workmanship and efficiency.  I highly recommend them.

    SIERRA AZUL PAINTING
Scott (the contractor) was very responsive, He came for a look after I called, evaluated the job and forwarded a quote within a week.  The job was well done, cleanup daily, caulking where needed, matched the house color extremely well. This is an over 3000 sq. feet home with three colors, all was done promptly and completed in a week. I have requested that they return next year and do the remaining two sides of the house.
I will have no problem recommending their services to others.  All in all a real professional.
