We found water damage in our home and Gerhard was quick to respond and inspect. He's been amazing - not only fixed the issue (cut out damaged area and rebuild framing) but also made sure to identify the root of the problem to ensure no future damage. Very professional and fairly priced. Super highly recommended!

Jason and his subs were always polite and excellent at cleanup daily. I would certainly have them all back if I ever had further home maintenance. I consider Jason a friend now in whom I have great trust in workmanship and invoice details. I would happy for Jason to give out my phone number for reference.

    John Pauza Construction
I had many ideas for my bathroom remodel, but I also "only" had a budget of about 15k to do it.  I contacted several local contractor/designers that I found on Houzz, but they basically scoffed at my tiny budget.  I thought I found someone to do it for my budget through a recommendation, but that contractor turned out to be a nutjob.  So I found John Pauza on Angie's List and contacted him.
Let me first say that I was not planning on doing a full bathroom remodel, but my hand was forced when I literally stepped through the bathroom floor one day and realized that my fixer upper was presenting one more thing to break my bank.
John was professional and responded right away.  He came out and looked at my little bathroom; went under the house and came back with the wonderful news that there wasn't actually a subfloor under my bathroom!  The bathtub was perched across a couple joists with nothing under it.
Anyway, this was in September.  I was already in the midst of installing a new septic system (did I mention fixer-upper?) so John was honest and gave me a quote that included tying in the bathroom shower to the new septic (it was originally a sort of ad hoc greywater setup), pulling permits to do everything correctly, and he told me his schedule wouldn't allow for my job till mid-November.  This worked out fine for me, and John did call me in late October to set up a start time for the project.  He gave me a formal quote at that time, with payment terms, benchmark dates and a completion window.
The job went pretty smoothly and John was always open and honest about cost and completion.  He and his helper, Antonio, always showed up at 8am and worked through till 4pm and the job was completed on time and within budget. They hauled away all the garbage too.
John's a gregarious, funny guy who knows his stuff.  I'll give him a straight A because he worked with me on my budget, worked with the tile place and the flooring people, offered money-saving suggestions and was careful to preserve anything I wanted to reuse, such as the sink and toilet.  He is scrupulous about details and I was never left wondering about where money went or anything.  Antonio is a diligent worker who knows his stuff too.  He did all the tile-setting and did a really nice job.
The bathroom came out nicely and I'm happy to have met and employed John Pauza.

Two of the windows are sliding and two are sheet glass.  The scope of the work was to remove the old windows and replace with new.  The windows are high and heavy, not easy to maneuver and install.  All went well.  Jason picked up the windows and delivered, which was not part of his original bid.  Because he did that, I did not ask for the Angie's List 5% discount.  His bid was already the lowest of several bidders.  One accident occurred:  one of the original windows broke.  Jason and his crew cleaned it up immediately and well.  After all was done, I eventually noticed a board that was missing a piece; it was not an obvious damage.  Jason returned and repaired that with no complaint.  Jason and his assistant did a good job cleaning up afterwards; there were small pieces of debris that were not immediately obvious that they missed, but the cleaning up was better than most of what I've seen, over the years.  Jason went beyond the scope of the agreement, performing touch-up painting and, as mentioned above, delivering windows from the supplier.  He also gave me some good advice about caulking the siding on my house.  It has been four months and the windows work perfectly and look good.
Communication was good.  Jason responded well, kept me informed, and kept to his schedule.  Jason and his crew were pleasant and intelligent, besides their diligence and competence.
Jason is on my very very short list of contractors and carpenters that I will hire for additional work.

I love my new staircase! It looks beautiful and it's exactly what we wanted. Michael and his crew were very polite and extremely professional. They arrived every morning on time, worked quietly and efficiently until early afternoon. They cleaned up every day before leaving. This was extremely important to me because we have a child and an animal. Classical Stairways did a fantastic job. They obviously take a great deal of pride in their shows.

    JH Construction & Remodeling
Over the past 13 + years I have contracted with JH Construction several times for remodeling/construction and repair.
Jim was the general for a bathroom remodel at a vacation home in South Lake Tahoe.  He performed and managed the entire process including all permitting, carpentry and finish work.  His plumbing, electrical, and tile subcontractors were equally professional, courteous and clean in their work.  The results far exceeded our expectations and the project was competed within our budget, and ahead of schedule.
When we were preparing to sell my father's home we contacted JH regarding damaged door trim on two of the interior doors.  We were prepared to replace all of the door trim in the house and had budgeted a few thousand dollars for the material and labor and planned on a 2-3 week timeframe.  Jim came over and inspected the damage and we were pleased to hear that the damage could be repaired and that we did not need to replace all of the trim on the house.  He went on to repair the trim and over the course of a few days made several brief visits to repair and then paint the affected areas.
There are several other projects I could comment on, but one is particularly telling of the customer service and broad skill-set the Jim provides.  On a Sunday morning we heard a water leak in an interior wall between our kitchen and laundry room.  After investigating the source of the leak and its location it was clear that we needed help.  I called JH Construction at around noon, and by 5pm that day Jim arrived and began repair.  The work included cutting a hole in our floor (the leak was not accessible via our crawl space) and re-piping the leaking section and then closing up the hole and re-tacking out carpet.  He was finished and cleaned out by 11pm.   This work was not a big project, and I suspect was not profitable, but that did not matter to Jim.  We are his customers and he was more than willing to interrupt his weekend and make a special trip because it was an emergency.

Great experience overall with a few glitches. Later start than anticipated (our fault due to unexpected delay in escrow closing), but was still able to accommodate our daughter and son-in-law's move-in schedule. (They are caretaking in the house in our absence.) Dan tolerated being the go-between myself and my daughter as decisions on paint color were made and changed. He always double-checked with me before proceeding with an item if he thought we might be dissatisfied with our choice. When the fans ordered for the ventilation system were of poor quality, he sent them back and re-scheduled rather than installing an inferior product. The only item we had difficulty with was the incorrect installation of three of the appliances by one of his men. When I called to tell him there was a problem, he responded immediately (on the week-end) and re-installed the items himself perfectly. Super easy to work with. Does the job the right way in a timely fashion.

I couldn't be happier with the work.  Jason did an absolutely excellent job on each aspect of the project.  As it got larger, he never paniced, was flexible and added workers as the need grew.  I decided to pay on a time and materials basis as the project was very fluid and that gave me the flexibility to make changes mid project as needed.
The project began in May and spanned most of the summer, with the last of the subs finishing up in early September.  Would I recommend Jason?  You bet.  I've worked with a number of contractors and they often have so much work that they don't can't dedicate the time needed to ensure that the job is done right and that a quality is maintained.  Jason attitude and attention to detail will make you feel that your job is the only one he is working on.
I'm looking for more projects for him.  I'm sure I'll work with him again.

David and his team came to see investigate the damage before the water removal people were finished. David worked with the water removal people to make sure the removal was done correctly, thoroughly, and without any further damage to our home. Once the place was dry, David investigated thoroughly to find the extent of the mold damage. (It's good that he did, or someone would evenutally have been injured.)

Once they started on the repairs, the work went smoothly and I was kept informed of each stage of the work. The guys went back and forth between working on the inside and working outside. This was based on weather...we were constantly worried it was going to start raining so the guys had to make sure all the outside work was done to protect the place from rain, but not to paint until they were sure it would dry before the rain came. They rebuilt the kitchen walls, re installed the cabinetry, painted and restored the room to better-than-before condition. They rebuilt the bathroom shower and tiled it (it's gorgeous!). And the siding outside is redone and looks great.

David and his team even found and repaired some damage that the water removal team did while they were working.

These guys are dependable, good at what they do, fairly priced, flexible, trustworthy individuals with a great sense of what it takes to repair something safely and not drain your wallet.

    David Hanson Construction
David Hanson was fantastic. He was great to work with, very honest, reliable, easy going and reasonable. He consulted with us throughout the project, and gave us good ideas and advice. He was flexible, as we kind of designed things as we went along. He hired good and reliable subcontractors. He did nice work, went the extra mile to make things look good. He kept the job site tidy. He has excellent skills. We would definitely hire him again, and recommend him without reservation.
