AI took my elderly dog here last September during a very difficult time. Her health was failing and I was in need of some second opinions about her prognosis, about medicines that a different clinic had prescribed, and about how to keep her comfortable. Dr. Lawrence, the veterinary assistants, and the receptionist were thoughtful and responsive. They made a difficult & sad time less scary and less overwhelming for me. They were gentle when they interacted with my dog. They followed up promptly to my phone calls and fit us in for appointments on short notice due.

FEXTORTION. Plain and simple. TL;DR - They held my dog hostage until I gave them money. I have been a client of BPH for a couple years now. My two dogs and I actually used to stop in once or twice a week just to say hi as we were also neighbors. Then with COVID came new procedures that had been in place a couple months before we had our first very awkward appointment. It was difficult because the new processes and flow that they had implemented still had some bugs that needed to be addressed. I wrote it off as just the same painful adaptation that we were all going through at the time. About a month later, I had to bring in my Mastiff, and it became clear that this dysfunction was their new normal. It's important to note, at this point, that he is a Certified Emotional Support Animal and we both tend to get a little anxious when we're apart. That said, I was still prepared to wait outside for an hour or two while the vet saw him. The system is set up through phone calls. You call them when you arrive, they call you when they're ready for the dog, they call you when the exam is over, call when treatment is finished and finally, they call you again for payment. Then, ostensibly, they bring out your dog. The system failed. After my dog's visit had concluded, I spoke with the vet and I began waiting for the 'payment phone call', in a hot car, in the middle of summer. After what seemed like an excessive amount of time, I called. The phone tree machine placed me on hold several minutes before someone picked up. I asked what was happening and they said they'd call me right back. After another extensive wait, I called back again, same result. I waited more. The third time I called back, I just said, "I don't mind waiting to pay but, will you please bring my dog out to me while I wait to pay. He gets very upset when we're apart like this." The person on the other end of the phone said, "No, we won't be doing that." At this point, my anxiety level escalated exponentially. The voice said, "We can't release your dog until we receive payment." Now, to be fair, I'm not entirely sure of the legality here but, I'm fairly sure that even if someone does owe you money, you can't then arbitrarily take something of theirs until they pay you. I felt like he was being held hostage for a ransom. I asked to speak with the supervisor on staff and she basically supported the policy and also refused to release my dog. I hung up in disbelief and shock, but a few minutes later, my dog was brought out finally, well over an hour after his appointment ended. I then received a call from the specific vet that cared for my dog who apologized for the mishap. We chatted for about 20 minutes about the situation and about my dog's condition and I felt much better about the whole thing so I left it at that. Despite the phone call, I was still unnerved by this event for about a week afterward and I heard nothing from BPH regarding the incident since. Cut to today, I submitted an online request for a new appointment and received an email stating that they wouldn't care for my dog any longer. After tormenting my dog and I, they are now telling us to go away. It just feels like petty spite. They dropped the ball and they're blaming us. When COVID hit, hospitals rightly banned all visitors. However, obvious exceptions were made for parents of children. Because the thought of being separated from our children while they are suffering is simply unbearable and unacceptable. For many of us, our pets ARE our children. They tormented us, in the name of money. That's the opposite of compassion. That's not what I want from my vet.

FWarning! Our pets were held hostage and they called the police when I requested they release them. I'm not going to go into all the detail because I want to put this whole horrific experience behind me. There is a word limit here. If you want the full review look at yelp. But I cannot in good conscious not warn others about the criminal practices. This is our 3rd visit. 1) we were promised a 2 for 1 price. When we got there, suddenly they don't offer it anymore. After asking for a supervisor, they agreed. 2) Our cats were stressed by leaving the home for this reason, I requested that they do not take the cats until the doctor is ready to see them. After 40 minutes of waiting I asked for an update. they said the doctor is ready to see them. They took the cats. we wait 40 minutes and check in. The doctor will see them now. 5 minutes later they come out with a $700 bill! This is for a simple cold. The bill was stuffed with 80% unnecessary fees. Enough eye medication and anti biotic for 10 cats! And they $500 for X-ray because I cat had coughed twice last week. Insanity. For human doctors this would be insurance fraud. They admitted that the X-ray wasn't really necessary. And that we can buy the medication ourself online. Another person calls us and she has a whole new bill with new charges on it. Now with flea medication for every cat. AND They again are charging us $60 extra that I corrected them about twice already. I also asked, is it okay for the kitten to come in on Friday for his vaccination round? Yes! Absolutely! The other person said of course not. You can't vaccinate a cat when they are sick! This was clear that either this person was lying or they are incompetent. At this point, I can hear dogs barking and my cats have been neglected and left in their carriers for over a close to 2 hours!!! So I asked for the cats to be released into our car as we figure out the charges and the treatment plan. Because clearly, there are extreme discrepancies. You know what she said? No. You cannot have your cats until you pay the full amount right now. Not only is this immoral and disgusting to hold a living being hostage. It is totally illegal. I again requested and the response is you pay in full right now or we hold your cats hostage. So I got out of my car and went to the door to ask for our cats to be released. That's when she called the police! This is so horrific that I wouldn't believe it if it didn't happen to me personally. Finally, the doctor comes out and be apologizes. He explained that holding the cats hostage is wrong and against their policy. At this point, I only wanted our cats to be safe. So I paid the full amount and left. What became imminently clear is this: They don't care about your or your pets here. This is not a vet office. It's more like a vet sweat shop. They overbook appointments, give less than 5 minutes for every pet and try to squeeze as much money out of you as possible. There is no attention to detail or care for the pets. And they try to pile on as many charges as possible. Our cats are our children as I'm sure yours are the same. And I cannot in good conscious allow such predatory and incompetent behavior to hurt others like it hurt us. And if you have been abused by this office in the past, I urge you to make it known. Contact the veterinarian board and file a complaint. There are rules and regulations in this country to prevent abuses like this and we have consumer and medical rights. And such abuses must not be allowed to continue. I'm sure Ocean Vet will respond below in their "nice language" and saying how much "they care". But actions speak louder than words. The same person on the phone was very "nice". But became extremely vicious and didn't hesitate for a second to call the police when she didn't get 100% her way. There are a lot of honest and amazing vets out there. But this isn't one of them. Please support good, ethical businesses and lets stop these "vet sweatshops" from abusing more people and animals.

AThey were fabulous. I would highly recommend them. I think they were really knowledgeable. The staff was really friendly. They seemed to really care about the animals and their well-being. They checked back to see how my pets were doing after a few days. When I called a couple of weeks later for questions, they remembered who I was and who my pets were. They were very responsive and I just felt very comfortable. They were half an hour from where I live and I would not hesitate to take my pets back again. There certainly are closer pet clinics but I really like them. They just have a regular price. They were not pricey.

It's fine to give a review, but I know there's people who want to have her do it, but she doesn't have anymore time in her schedule. ACANINE SHOWCASEThey charged $5 for toenails which only took a few minutes but I paid them more. They don't take credit cards. They are careful, kind and consistently do a good job. They can't use a blower to dry my dog because he doesn't like noise so they let him air dry. They are on the corner of Wolfe and El Camino but it is hard to get my minivan into and out of their parking lot so I park at Golfland's Wolfe parking lot and walk over. They are behind the ethnic market, facing away from El Camino. You have to make reservations about two weeks in advance but it is the only place I've used that doesn't injure the dog.- Anita L.
