Solar Panel Installation reviews in Santa Barbara

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • We made the decision to work with a local solar panel installer. Good Energy Solar proved to be a wonderful choice. We highly recommend Good Energy Solar. They have a positive, professional spirit; technically savvy, timely, responsive. The aesthetics of the installation matter to them. From start to finish they were on top of our project. They are passionate about the environment. Good Energy Solar did what they said they would do, on schedule, with craftsmanship. One of the reasons we chose them is because they use Sunpower solar panels. If you research solar panels it becomes clear these are great panels. It's what Apple put on their new building.

  • When my husband and i bought our new house it didnt have solar, we began getting information from many companies, all seemed to have an agenda and pushed leasing heavily (which we didn't want) when Tim Snyder from Ground Up Builders came out he gave us all our options and even explained the differences in inverters and solar panels. He gave us the best info to make the best decision we needed for our family. We ended up with a purchase with a really low interest rate. I would definitely recommend using Ground Up Builders again!

  • It went very well.  They installed it when they committed to doing so, cleaned up well, and explained how the system works along the way.  The payment plan was fair and Aaron got the rebate worked out from the government without me having to do anything.

  • The panels were installed after several weeks which is what California Solar Electric would be the amount time needed for ordering and permits. The installation crew was very professional and easy to work with. The web interface for the system is excellent and provides more detail than solar installations of most people I know. The proportion of our electric use that the panels were supposed to provide was 87% and the actual proportion it did supply in the first year of use was actually slightly higher than that, about 90%. Overall, I was very pleased with California Solar Electric.

  • Marine and Jeremy are so passionate about what they do in wanting to make the planet a better place by harnessing the sun's natural energy. Their products are beautiful and they really take the time to explain the cost savings long term. I have and will recommend Brighten Solar to everyone I know.

  • Everyone in I met from this company were terrific. If someone didn't know the answer, he'd just admit it (and not pretending to know) and then find out from someone who did! In fact, it was apparent from the beginning that the Santa Barbara Solar Panels' folks work together as a really good team, each supporting one another to support us in the best way possible.

The crew worked without brake to install a complex configuration of 31 panels (around skylights and a chimney) on our roof, mostly in the pouring rain, and with an exemplary work ethic. Any kinks were ironed out along the way, the result being that we have now had our final inspection, and are happily monitoring our very own solar gain!

Its been a wonderful experience dealing with our Santa Barbara Solar Panel team, and we have every confidence that they will continue to support us throughout the many years ahead. We definitely made the right decision, not only to go solar, but to do so with them.

  • They took over organizing everything, made some of the subs do everything over if it was not done well and made sure everyone showed up. I didn't have to deal with any of it. They didn't leave a mess anywhere. Then, a few months later, when I was having problem with the LED lights with the dimmers, they came back several times to be sure that everything was perfect. I waited to write this review because I wanted to see the results and I now only get billed once a year. My entire electric bill for the year was about $450 when I used to routinely have bills over 200/month. I run a lot of electrical equipment and also have an AC system with a fan that I run a lot without the AC because I have severe allergies. This was so much more than any of the other companies that were aggressively pursuing me had to offer and looked at options that were cheaper than installing more solar panels but still got the job done. They still have a couple of more things that I plan to do but ran out of money. I would hire them again any time to do work for me. I have a cabin on Big Bear that needs work and I wish I could bring them up there.

  • We employed Solfusion to install 15 solar panels on our complicated, multilevel Spanish tile roof. It required extensive planning, city  permitting and coordination with roofing to complete the installation, which was performed with professionalism throughout the process. Solfusion worked diligently to meet our needs and expectations, going the extra mile to make us happy. The staff were in timely communication during  the construction, happy to answer any and all questions. Near the end of the process, when we were not satisfied with the placement of electrical conduits, the Solfusion installation crew returned to our house to remove and reconfigure the conduits to our satisfaction. We would highly recommend Solfusion for any solar installation.

  • My historic electrical use is quite low but I plan to install an air conditioning system and to purchase a hybrid-electric car. I felt that installing a solar voltaic system would be an ideal solution to help offset my projected increase in electric consumption.
I interviewed two solar installation contractors. I selected Allen Associates - Building Performance and Solar Division to design and install my solar system because I was impressed with the knowledge and professionalism of the building performance specialists. The listened carefully to my ideas and worked closely with me to develop a design and features that were in line with my projected electrical needs.
Allen offered a number of valuable services beyond solar system design and installation including assessment of the energy efficiency of my home, the structural soundness of my roof for supporting the solar panels, and the condition and integrity of the roof covering. They applied for and obtained the building permit, re-adjusted their design to accommodate fire code changes that occurred immediately prior the permit application process, arranged their construction schedule to meet my needs, were prepared for building inspections, requested and obtained permission to operate from Southern California Edison, filled out and submitted the paperwork for the California solar rebate, set up my solar generating monitoring system, and were willing to answer all my questions and otherwise assist me every step of the way - even after the system was in operation. I also was impressed with the personable natures, creativeness, and workmanship of the sub-contractors Allen Associates used during the installation process.
Allen installed 15 solar panels and micro-inverters and completed all peripheral mechanical and electrical work and other on-site construction in only 3 1/2 days. The equipment I purchased allows me to monitor on my computer, the monthly daily, and hourly production of my solar system. The total cost of my system after the California solar rebate and a 30% federal tax credit will be $12,741.
I am now generating power from the sun and, for the first time in my life, the power company will be crediting rather than debiting my account.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Allen Associates for solar panel design and installation.

  • A few weeks after they took my deposit they sent another field team out to confirm that they didn't want to install their modules on my roof.  (I have Country Manor Shakes--aka Alcoa Cedar Shakes, aka, an aluminum roof).   Apparently, they don't install on homes with metal roofs (or tiles, or slate, for that matter.  Of course, they never told their salesmen about this little issue.  But their salesmen were told to collect a deposit.
When I learned that they had issues with metal roofs I contacted the roof manufacturer in Ohio, spoke to their engineering staff, and they provided their solution to installing photovoltaic (PV) modules (panels) on their type of roof.  REC Solar rudely told me that they didn't want to work with me.  They were suggesting that the modules go on the ground.  I had to escalate the issue to their director of operations to get an adult to talk to, whereupon I learned that installations on 'difficult' roofs is not part of their business plan.  They chose only to work on typical tract homes with composition shingles.  Since that's 80% of the homes out there that's fine, but how about telling your own sales staff about this?  And how about returning the deposit?  They took the deposit in May, confirmed that they didn't want to honor their contract by June, and I had to call and call many times to get their attention about refunding my deposit.  Had I not done this I doubt that I would see it again.  I finally received the deposit amount after more than 100 days.
Interestingly, I contacted another PV company (Quantum Solar) and they not only surveyed the roof, ordered the special aluminum stanchions, installed the entire system, and finally activated it--all before I ever got my refund from REC Solar!
There are many solar installers out there.  Do you homework thoroughly before you sign.  REC Solar wants the easy work.  Also, REC Solar won't pay their sales staff unless the system is installed.  Thus, the salesman who did all the hard leg work was denied his commission.  This is a nasty way to run a business, because the company isn't out any money.  It's all win win for them.
See my very positive review of Quantum Solar elsewhere.
