EXCEEDED EXPECTIONS!!!! We'd hired a few years ago to remodel the guest bathroom, create and install hallway cupboard doors and add moulding to the kitchen. He was meticulous, did beautiful work and didn't cut any corners. He's a perfectionist and makes sure every detail is obviously we hired him again (and will do so for any future projects)! He has high work ethics. Pier also intently listened to our requirements and wishes, and had some helpful and ingenious ideas for areas that we needed some interior decorating guidance. He's multi-talented! Pier remodeled our master bathroom, tearing out everything and replacing wood where needed. He repaired and moved existing plumbing, added insulation, moved the electrical switches and outlets. Now for the fun parts. He installed a heater/ventillation/light/nightlight ceiling unit (no more getting out of a shower into a cold room in our cold CA winters!) and ceiling lighting. He did amazing work installing the shower stall tiles and detailed trim (which would have tested anyone else's patience because of the tiny pieces), as well as the floor and baseboard tiles. Installation of the rest of the fixtures was a breeze for Pier as well. The shower stall doors are absolutely amazing! Our master bath is now a luxurious retreat! Thank you, Pier. Pier created and installed beautiful, quality cupboards for the laundry room. Another masterpiece! He installed floor and baseboard tiles. His last amazing creation was a gorgeous mantle and surround for the fireplace. After all I've seen him create, I think he outdid himself. The moulding between the columns and the mantle was intricately pieced together. I had a vision for the fireplace, and Pier fine tuned the details to my specifications and made it more beautiful than I had ever dreamed! He tore out the hearth and installed tile on it as well as the fireplace face. Next month we're going to have him install a remote controlled gas fireplace insert. We'll be all set for our "cold" winter weather. Pier was punctual, responsive and cleaned up before leaving. His days weren't limited to 8 hours either. If something wasn't finished, he stayed to ensure it was completed so he could begin the next stage the following day. Obviously we highly recommend Pier for any projects anyone may have. Do yourself a great service by hiring him. You want the best possible work done? Look no further...hire Pier! Thank you, Pier! We appreciate you!!!

    APlus Interior Design & Remodeling
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Alex & all of the great folks at APlus! We started with a tired, dark 1958 galley kitchen & an awkward living space, and now we have the open-concept home of our dreams! I knew I wanted to take down two walls, but I couldn't see how it could work -- fortunately, the APlus pros have the vision I don't. Alex helped us really put together a design that is perfect for us -- he has such a great eye for style and colors and everything! I still can't decide what my favorite feature is: the gorgeous stone fireplace, the amazing, enormous windows, the beautiful reclaimed barn wood we used for special features, the shiplap, the brick backsplash, the huge, spectacular island with a butcher block baking station at the end, or even the dog-feeding station built into the end of it! It's awesome -- thank you soooooooooo much, Alex!!! Quality is critical. I think this is a great example of our experience: we relocated a door, and new cabinets went in on each side of it. But the carpenter noticed that the door was not perfectly centered in that space, so he tore it out, moved the whole door frame and everything (a big job, really) over to the left 3/4" to make it perfect. I've got to be honest -- it's a door leading to the garage, and I never would have noticed this. But I love that he noticed & it mattered to him to have it just perfect. (Thank you, Mark!) But the best part, honestly, was how every single person from APlus was just SO NICE!!! They really went above and beyond to help us, even with a million big & little things they really didn't have to do. It's just a pleasure to work with such kind people!!! (We miss you, Juan!) I was looking for a company that could do it all, because we are a busy family with kids & pets and I just couldn't deal with managing a bunch of different contractors: electricians, plumbers, carpenters, etc.... With APlus, I didn't have to. They managed everything, and exceeded my expectations in every way.

    Horizon Construction & Remodeling Inc
This renovation was a long time coming, & finding Horizon through Angie's List was a blessing. They had a great selection in their showroom of different products. We worked with contractor Mike Roppo, who immediately would answer our calls and was quick to fix any problems. The office was efficient in checking that every step of the renovation was completed on time. Our master bedroom is finally the sweet oasis we had envisioned.

First, I reached out via website contact form, twice no response. I went to their showroom and got two quotes onsite, they were very busy on a Saturday. A week later I phoned in the order and paid the 50% deposit. Three weeks later I called the office to get and update. The parts were in, but I was not notified. Scheduled an appointment to install. Installers were friendly, professional and quick. They gave me a new valve flange, which was nice. Forgot the vermiculite, installer work order was incorrect, still waiting for them to come back with the vermiculite...

    Studio Design Works

After many months searching the country for the perfect cast stone range hood we finally found Studio Design Works right in our own back yard.  It was really lucky break for us because we were just about to sign a contract with another company when our contractor advised us otherwise.   Our biggest challenge was to find a company that not only makes a beautiful product - but one who offers installation of their own product. Most of the companies we found did not provide installation.

We were out of time and options, but this turned out to be exactly what we were looking for - their products are beautiful, extremely well made and very reasonable pricing.  Ours turned out to be quite a challenge for them since our space was quite limited, but they quickly modified one of their designs and made our dream come true.   They were generous with their samples and they were able to manufacture everything surprisingly fast.  Everything was ready and installed on schedule exactly as promised.  They finished installing it today and we are more than pleased with the end result.   It is a beautiful work of art and very well built.

Our only mistake was not having a contractor or designer coordinate the installation between the cast stone hood and the blower/liner that goes inside.  By doing this on our own with no experience we had a bit of a learning curve to understand what needed to be done, but they were very patient with us.  We ran into a few issues during installation that were no fault of theirs, but in the end they handled everything very professionally and they really went out of their way to please us.   I will  try to add photos as soon as the rest of the kitchen is presentable.

    Custom Stone Care
We called Frank and arranged a date to quote the job. He was on time and explained a few options available to us, particularly around the finish we desired from the sealant. He quoted us both elements of the job separately both quotes were very reasonable for the work involved. He was very professional and easy to work with. We are very happy with the job he did and both are a significant improvement making us very glad we got the work done. He was careful to protect the area and did a good job of keeping the area clean. Definitely recommend him.

Natural Touch, Inc. Pool & Landscape Construction
We had high hopes for Todd after our initial meeting with him. We selected to work with him. He had some hesitations because of unknown soil conditions. This is fair and we perceived this as a positive actually since he was taking precautions and doing his own due diligence versus being desperate to get the job.

He told us that he would be providing a quote for the initial design a couple days after our last meeting. It's now been almost 2 weeks. We've called and emailed several times with zero response. If this is indicative of how he operates, I suppose it's better to find out at this point versus after project start.

I don't understand how one can run a business like this...Customer Service 101: be nice, be responsive.

    Horizon Construction & Remodeling Inc
My initial experience with Enna when I first called to set up an appointment was very professional and pleasant. We set up an appointment to meet with Mark, the GC, within 2 weeks of the call. Mark was professional, listened well to what we had in mind, augmented these visions with his own excellent design ideas, and made us feel very confident at the first meeting that Horizon was likely the best choice for us. After meeting with several other GCs over the next few weeks, Horizon was in our top 3 finalists, and we made the choice to move forward with them based on our feelings of confidence that they really understood what we wanted to do. Horizon was not the lowest bidder, nor were they the highest.
After confirming with Mark our choice to move forward with Horizon, we met with him again to go over in more detail the project scope and timeline and to sign paperwork for the plan development. The initial project timeline was identified as 10-12 weeks. Soon after this meeting, he swiftly had plans drawn up for the architectural changes to our kitchen and living room and submitted them for approval. Expecting approval to take several weeks, Mark suggested we start working on the master bathroom remodel so as not to lose momentum. During Master Bath demolition, Mark identified some unanticipated framing work after the walls were stripped. Although I was not expecting this, we compromised on the cost of addressing this work, which set the tone for addressing unexpected work going forward. Work on the Master Bath went longer than expected based on some changes to scope as well as some permit hang-ups, but the finished product was exactly what we wanted.
Approval of the Kitchen\Living Room plans came back quicker than expected (in a few days as opposed to weeks), and work on the kitchen and living room commenced and ran concurrent with the work on the master bathroom. This work involved removing walls between the galley kitchen, the den/4th bedroom, the living room and the dining area with the ultimate design goal being a great room spanning all of these areas. Due to removing load-bearing walls, support beams had to be installed in the attic and 6 foot deep underpinnings had to be dug and placed in a several areas. Although the inside of our house was unrecognizable, the work proceeded on schedule for the most part. During the project, we did make some adjustments to overall scope (not changing planned work, just adding new work to overall scope, e.g., originally we had no intention of touching the fireplace, or any of the bedrooms; we made some decisions midstream to have Horizon redo the fireplace and floor and paint all of the bedrooms based upon design ideas from Mark). Change management on these items (and other items) was handled well by Enna. After the Master Bathroom completed, Horizon started on the guest bathroom remodel, which involved the following:
Removal of HVAC unit from closet adjacent to the bathroom.
Demolition of walls between HVAC closet, bathroom, and adjacent coat closet.
Installation of new HVAC unit in the attic.
Utilizing the square footage from the HVAC closet and the coat closet effectively doubled the square footage of the guest bathroom allowing us to convert it into a full bath with double vanity (from a ¾ bath). This was the last aspect of the project to complete.Considering that we lived in the house through the project (with the exception of 3 non-continuous weeks for vacation), we were eager to see the project complete, and we are extremely happy with the results. Horizon saw the vision we had for transforming the interior of our 55 year old ranch style house into something more modern and beautiful, and they executed on it.
The only negative thing I feel compelled to note is that the crew was not considerate about keeping the work site clean: Paint brushes were rinsed out in the plants in the front yard; razors, cuttings from wood, discarded pieces of wire, food wrappings, etc continually littered my front yard and driveway. I asked Mark and Enna to address with their crew at least two times, however it didn?t fix the situation and I ultimately ended up cleaning up after the crew. This may seem petty or perhaps I am naïve about a project of this magnitude, but it made me feel disrespected as a customer for my concerns about this to go effectively ignored.
Lastly I have to say that, Horizon Construction (Mark, Enna and their whole crew) we're extremely friendly and nice throughout the entirety of the project. Never once did I second guess my choice. By the end of the project, I still felt comfortable that we had made the best choice. Since the completion of the project, Horizon has cheerfully addressed any issues that have come up.

Mike is the best contractor I have worked with. We originally hired him to tear down our fireplace that had cracks in it from an earthquake. I interview 4 contractors for the job. Mike was not the lowest quote but in talking with him he seemed to know what he was doing and was not trying to snow me and gave my wife and I some great suggestions. At this time we also had him paint the house as well as install a new patio cover and gutters. Mike was a great project manager and work well with the city to get all the permits for the electrical work need for the fireplace.
Within weeks of Mike finishing the first job our upstairs shower sprung a leak. I called my insurance company and then asked Mike to come take a look. Mike showed up with the insurance adjuster. At first the insurance company only wanted to pay us $10,000 but Mike instated that the insurance company do further test on the water damage and they found water sitting under our shower pan as well s on the ceiling below. Mike was able to secure me $35,000 for a new shower. Mike then worked with my wife and redesigned the bathroom and shower creating a Spa quality bathroom for us while keeping us under our budget.
We are currently planning to do some new remolding and Mike will be the first and only contractor we call.
