Home Energy Audit reviews in Santa Ana

    Green Source Energy
Another bait and switch. They refused to honor the contract/purchase I had made, and only wanted to hawk solar panel leases. Rude, presumptuous. So tired of seeing multiple "A" ratings, calling for service, and getting the runaround or attempted overcharges for crummy work. I'm done with Angie's List.

    JBS Heating & Air
We have had a very positive experience with JBS. I am writing this review more than one year after the system was installed so we have had a chance to really test the quality of the system JBS installed.

JBS is a quality company run by highly ethical and hard working people. When they originally quoted my system, I found they were not the cheapest alternative - now I know why, please read on.

Here are the reasons why I would recommend JBS:
    • Engineered to give us the right size system not just replace what we have JBS's team took the time to come to our home and understand not only what we had in place, but determine what we needed to do in terms of insulation and design to actually purchase a smaller system. JBS measured and then did computer modeling to tell us where we needed new ducts and how the addition of insulation in our attic would allow us to actually downsize our existing system to smaller, more efficient units.
    • Professional Work Crews Casey and his crew were easy to work with. They installed the two new systems including all new ducting and insulation in just over two days, despite the rain and working into the night. They cleaned up each day and we had a minimum of disruption. What impressed me the most was the way JBSs workers worked together and conducted themselves. I have worked with a lot of contractors and this is the first experience for my wife and I where we never heard an offensive word and where I felt comfortable leaving my wife alone in the house all day while the JBS team was working.
    • Quality of Installation and Design I am convinced that it is not how large a unit you install that matters. What matters is getting a unit sized right for your house and having a LEED certified contractor who is willing to add extra supply vents and insulate your house even though it means selling you a smaller system and making less money. My attic now has 36 of new blown insulation. The new programmable thermostats are amazingly easy and effective. When our system comes on, we seldom hear it because it is so quiet and runs so little. Thanks to the thorough job JBS's team did on the attic insulation, our house has stayed at a comfortable 70 degrees all winter long and the system hardly runs. Our electric usage has dropped by over 30% plus our house is more comfortable with consistent temperature throughout.
    • Rebates were Easy JBS's team did all the paperwork and helped follow up on the rebates including those from Southern California Edison, the Gas Company and the State and Federal governments. I received every rebate JBS promised on a timely basis. I have heard nightmare stories about other contractors who could not pass SCEs rigorous standards with JBS, this was never even a consideration.
    • Competitive Pricing I received price quotations from three different HVAC companies. JBS was by far the best value (but not the cheapest). One of the other quotes proposed to simply change out our system with new units of the same size and gave little attention to anything else. They also refused to guarantee that the new system would qualify for an SCE rebate. JBS gave us a competitive price. They also guaranteed both their price and that their work would pass all the SCE tests. SCE now has stringent standards for energy efficiency and requires the contractor to be certified and to do the energy calculations and provide things like extra insulation - not just sell you HVAC equipment and install it. This is an important point of differentiation as the SCE quality tests hold the contractors to a higher standard and make sure they do the extra work to make your home efficient saving me money in the long run.
    • JBS Stands Behind Their Estimate I really appreciated the fact that what JBS put on their estimate was exactly what I ultimately paid. Even though JBS discovered asbestos in the duct work, JBS disposed of it properly and held to their original estimate. There were no financial surprises. I tried to come up with some negatives on my experiences with JBS or some suggestions for improvement. Here are two tips to people considering an HVAC system:
    1) Require your contractor in your contract to meet the new SCE energy efficiency standards. This ensures you get the SCE rebate and ensures an energy efficient installation.
    2) We were a little surprised on how large the new condenser units were, although we did talk with JBS about this before so this not something JBS could have done differently. To someone replacing an old system, I would recommend they be aware of this as the new units have to be larger to meet the new energy efficiency standards - a detail worth noting which can be addressed when you locate the units outside your house.
