Skylight Installation reviews in San Mateo

I really liked them. They are so busy, that I had to be on a list waiting to get my work done. Out here they are a certified black diamond company. I usually don't deal with certified black diamond companies, because I find that they are quite a bit more expensive than other companies. Some of them use the excuse to charge more. It's interesting because I didn't discover that they were a black diamond company until way after I started to deal with them and agreed to the job. The price was actually reasonable compared to somebody else I spoke to. They're very good. The price is good, and the gentleman that came to install the skylights were geat. He did it very quickly and the job was great. The only negative was that they were such a busy company. Once you call them they tell you ahead of time about when they can come out. They are very upfront, they don't mislead you and get you to sign up, and then you're waiting and waiting. They are honest, and they get you a contract to sign. Then they let you know aproximately how long it's going to be, mine was 4-5 months. I wasn't really in a hurry, so it wasn't a big problem. They did call me and said they did have an opening, and I didn't need to be home.

I kept having a water leak. They found the source in the second story of the house. I though it was a roofing problem so I had roofers come out. He had one of his o=men come out with a big ladder. He stood on the roof with the hose while I stood inside and the water came through. They detected the source and fixed everything. They were very meticulous, covered my awning and cleaned up afterward. When they did the final stucco work it blended in perfectly. I would definitely use them again without hesitation.

In July of 2010 I had Palo Alto Glass replace 4 non-opening skylights with new opening units. Within a few days of calling they had come out and measured and emailed quotes which I accepted ($2,137.00). Palo Alto Glass then ordered the skylights and three weeks later took out the old and installed the new. The installer was professional and really knew his stuff. Based upon this great experience we had them back out to replace another skylight, July 22, 2011 and the install went well with Josh handling the installation this time. Skylights themselves are high quality and come with good quality screens. We have an Eichler home and leave the skylights opened 24-7 and a hot, stuffy home is very much a thing of the past.

One thing to consider: We have two rather large skylights in our garage and in July 2010 we had asked Palo Alto Glass to replace those with opening units as well. They came back to us and said they were unable to replace them as they were an unusual size and the roof/well dimensions different than the norm. We accepted that and went ahead with replacing the other skylights but we did go directly to a skylight manufacturer in the Bay Area who built the two skylights for us and arranged installation. I guess what I am trying to say here is that Palo Alto Glass, for us anyway, seemed to just want to work with the standard skylights and not tackle the harder installs.

Whenever we find and experience an honest contracter/service provider we want to share with others and Palo Alto Glass truly does merit our reccomendation!

Short story: They did a great job and were very responsive and attentive throughout the whole process. Long story: I met with and researched multiple roofers for the re-roof of my new home. They were one of the few that took the time to walk the roof with me and discuss the issues and their suggested approaches (our roof is low slope and had some drainage issues). Cosmo's price was competitive and, since they are a family business with a long history, I decided to go with them. The crew started and finished on time, and the foreman were very good at keeping me apprised of their progress; they were also available via email and text message (which still seems to be a rarity among contractors). They ended up significantly improving the roof's drainage, and took the time to repair items that were not in their original scope (free of charge). As an engineer, I warned them that I would be picky, but they took care of all of my concerns with no complaints. The job was delivered on-time and on-budget, which was quite an accomplishment considering the unpredictable weather they dealt with. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

They were supposed to come on a Friday, because it was supposed to rain they came two days early so we wouldn't get stuck with a leaky skylight. I appreciated the interest they took in it. It was kind of nice that they had that kind of interest, you don't find that very often.

I submitted a list of handyman-type work that I needed an estimate for via their web site, for 2 weeks nobody from Handyman Connection responded. I called, they apologized and sent someone over (Joe) to do an estimate. After taking the time off work and spending a lot of time with Joe going over all the things that needed to be done that I needed an estimate for, Joe promised he would have a written/itemized estimate to me by Tuesday (it was a Friday when he came). After 2 weeks and not receiving an estimate, I called Handyman Connection to complain. The person who answered apologized and told me that their handymen are actually supposed to submit estimates the same day. She said that she would tell the owner and have him call me. I never got a call from the owner, but a week later, that useless handyman, Joe called with a string of lame excuses, gave me some ballpark estimate over the phone, and did not follow up with a detailed written estimate as he promised.
