Garage Door Repair And Installation reviews in San Luis Obispo

    B & B Garage Door Co
These guys are great. I phoned them asking for a quote on doing a replacement for springs, cables, spools and bearings after having another company turn up for a tune up and telling me that the door was about to fall apart and needed to be fixed immediately to fix a safety issue for hundreds of dollars. The first B&B asked me were questions to determine whether I really needed to conduct the work! Once that was complete, they offered me a total price half that of the previous estimate I was given. They told me that they would do the work that day. They phoned back to confirm that they would be there within the hour. As promised, they turned up and did the work quickly and effectively. They determined that most of what I was told by another company as required was complete overkill. They tightened the spring rather than replace it, they determined the tension cables were still in good shape, etc. They had my door working perfectly when they left, and for 1/6 what they other company was looking to charge. Would definitely use them again.

    Precision Overhead Garage Door Service
Awful. sham. con artists. bait and switch. run away. danger, danger!
I tell the guy that I needed a remote control as well as the tune-up. No problem, says he, a new one is in the truck for $50, but if you take two I'll give it to you for $80. I informed him that I would think about it as he did the tune up. 9 minutes later the tune up is done (how's that for $80?). In which time I've gone out and found the remotes at home depot, sears, etc., all through the power of google. brand name universal remotes matching my equipment. average price of $20.99. I tell him I don't need the remotes, and he questions me. So I tell him I just found them online. He looks at me and offers to look at the website to tell me what is wrong with it, as he again tells me that their prices are "very competitive".
He then tells me that I need new springs and tension cables. I ask how much for this "safety issue fix". First price given is $600. I tell him that seems a lot of money. He tells me that I don't understand the gravity of the issue and that I need to fix this to stay safe, and that when it does break it might damage the house and cost a great deal more. I haggle him down to $300 for the springs, $150 for the cables. so now we are at $450 without remotes. So he will now throw in the remotes for $20 each, "even though we won't make any money on them now", thereby verifying the price that I had found just beforehand. So now he has admitted that they were trying to charge me 200% markup on suggested retail.
I tell him that still seems a great deal of money and he comes down to $400. I ask if he is going to change the spools as well or leave them. He pauses and then tells me that he doesn't want to appear to be trying to "upsell" me, but he'll give me the emergency fix treatment for the $400 or I can get the ultimate fix which includes bearings, spools and a lifetime guarantee for another $150, taking the total to $550, plus he will now throw in the remotes for free! What a bargain! I ask him if he'll do it all for $500 and he pauses, then agrees. But he has to go back to the shop to get the springs so he'll be back later.
As he is cleaning up the truck, I go in, do another google for repairs in my area, call the very first name on the list. They answer. I describe what I need done, including spools, cables, bearings, springs. He first asks me "why I think I need to replace all of that". He didn't just offer to do the work, but questioned if it really needed to be done! Perfect! I gave him the lowdown and he agreed that it probably should be done. He offered to do the whole job for $300, same day. I told him I had competition in just now and that they were pricing above this, and he asked if it was "Precision". When I said yes, he indicated to me that they have a reputation. Indeed. So, don't give Precision your business. It's a scam. bait and switch on work, and their markups are deadly. Outrageous.

Casey is the owner. What a professional! Here's the story.
I'm selling our home and the inspection required that the garage door opener and all components were in working order. We had not used it for the past 10 years because my wife's art studio was in the garage.
I actually spoke with him when I called to set up the appointment, and he said he'd be out the next morning at 10:00 a.m. Fortunately I had 2 wks. to get it done so I was not worried about the time. By 4:00 p.m. he had not arrived. I received a call from him. He was mortified because one of his employees who was to fix it, did not show up due to illness and he did not know this. He couldn't have been nicer.
We set up another appointment for today. He arrived on time and got to work immediately. It took about 45 min. He gave me a discount due to the problem yesterday. Normally, the charges $85 for this service. I really was shocked. I have been dealing with lots of service people recently and found his response way above any expectation.
    I highly recommend Casey.

    B & B Garage Door Co
When my garage door failed to operate correctly, I phoned Casey, who responded very professionally, and promptly, within several hours of my call. A very pleasant person to deal with, he clearly explained the problem and gave a cost estimate which I thought was very reasonable. His final bill was exactly the cost estimate. His 'technician' did an excellent job of fixing the broken spring and installing a very good garage door opener that operates perfectly... Thank you, guy...!!! I especially appreciated the very prompt service...!!!

I called Casey on 7/09/2013 and explained what I needed done. He agreed to come the following day at a specified time. He arrived on time and proceeded to do the job. The job was completed within an hour including adjustments. The side rails and weather seals all worked flawlessly. The complete job was estimated at $120 and that was paid in full. I highly recommend Band B garage door services for any garage door problems. Casey knows what he is doing and his prices are very reasonable. He also has a pleasant demeanor.

    Brad's Overhead Doors
We scheduled with Brad's Overhead Doors 2 appointments for an estimate for a new garage door in April 2013. We were stood up not once but twice, with no call or apology. Clearly this is not a company we want to do business with.

    Precision Overhead Garage Door Service
When we called Precision Doors to discuss our bid and to see if we could get some color samples to put up, we never were able to directly talk to a live person. Always had to leave messages. When they finally did get back to us, they couldn't find our bid as their estimator was on vacation. They asked us to fax our carbon copy to them, but we were unable to get our machine to work that day. When my husband called them directly back he again had to again leave a message. After he finally got through, they told him that he could take it into their office in San Luis Obispo, which is about a 20 minute drive from our home. So, he got in the car and drove it in, only to find out that their "office" was a FedEx P.O. Box...not an office. When he called the company back, which evidently isn't really in our county, he once again never got to talk to a real person, and we have never heard anything back from Precision Doors. We have subsequently called another garage door company that is actually in our area, and got a bid for the exact same door at $400 less than the Precision Door bid. So, at this point, we are rather glad these people don't answer or return their phone calls with any regularity.

Have used Band B Garage door repair many times over the years at several different homes. Each time he does great work at a fair price. Once we tried another Inc. that fixes garage doors-as we thought it was too far for Band B to drive to fix door-and we learned the hard way that Band B is by far the most squared away garage door company on the Central Coast.

    Hamon Overhead Door Co
I called for an estimate which was provided in writing in a reasonable time (after a verblal estimate). I had three estimates. Hamon was slightly higher that the other estimates, but their ratings by other customers were better. I am glag I chose Hamon. The installer was exceptional. The garage floor was uneven so that it was quite tricky to get the door to fit tightly at the bottom so that mice and other little animals could no longer get under the door. The installer had to try a number of things before he was able to get a tight fitting door on that uneven floor. I had been told that it might not be possible to get a tight fit. but he did it..
