EAST BAY PUMP & EQUIPMENT CO
The person was very prompt in coming out to look at the leak, and said they would get back to us with a quote. That was three weeks ago. We have left repeated messages and emails, and they have not yet had the courtesy to get back to us with a quote. We are in the process of selling our home and need this quote in order to ensure we can either give credit to the buyer or get the pump fixed. Each time we call, the receptionist says that a) they will email the quote that day or b) the General Manager is out to lunch, out on a service call, or on a conference call and will call back. There have been 5 phone calls and one email. It feels as though they are intentionally avoiding us. We are going to try one more time, but thought this was poor enough customer service to warrant a warning to others who are looking for well and pump services.

    Toto's Plumbing
Toto was the only plumber willing to do a full accessment of the situation before making a recommendation. Everybody else I hired wanted to be paid for every bit of work without results. Nobody could make any logical assessments and made recommendations that I could agree with. Toto is a breath of fresh air and he did everything he could to make a informed decision on next steps, all complementary. He quoted the best rates and after completing the job and we still had the problem he made a guarantee that he'll make it right without additional cost. I'll hire Toto again in a heartbeat and wouldn't hesitate to referral him. If I hired Toto first I would have saved thousands of dollars.

Mr Rooter Plumbing of The Oakland-Berkeley Area
They don't have the necessary skills and tools to do the job. They took the toliet out and tried placing a camera down the hole without success. They claimed that the camera was too big but they don't have another sized camera. He wasn't willing to go up to the roof and place the camera down the pipe on he roof and instead went into the crawl space to take pictures Andy made an exterior visual inspection. They made an accessment with very limited info and they asked me to hire someone else if i wanted a further accessment. That's all they did and it took them a whole day and charged $650. they don't have best practices and I can't recommend.

    Homeworx Construction & Plumbing
From the very first conversation, I had a feeling there was going to be problems. I described the job and the response was there was no one able to get under the house. When I asked if i should call another plumber, he quickly replied the job could be done, so I supplied him with a picture of the job. The appointment was changed several times, from Tuesday to Wednesday, to Thursday, to the next Tuesday and, finally Thursday, for several reasons, which I was patient about, especially after being reassured the plumber would be out and would have the part. When Thursday came, a man came, looked under the house, said he was too big a man (I had previously explained a large man would not be able to get through to where the job was), that it would be a three-hour job and someone would call. I know, for a fact, this job is less than two-hours to repair. I had purchased this deal through Angies List and will never do it again. I lost my money but I know now...

Superior Plumbing & Drain Cleaning Services
    1) I hired Superior Plumbing to fix the leak in my kitchen faucet and install a new faucet I received from MOEN; I paid them $300.00+ which also included installing the garbage disposal & a part on the toilet; 2) shortly thereafter the leak started again and I reported it to Superior; 3) They came out and inspected it and said that it would cost another $300.00 to fix the problem. I paid the $300.00; 4) again after a short time, it started leaking again & I reported it to Superior; 5) Superior sent out another plumber who turned the faucet back & forth with his wrench and said there was nothing else he could see to do; 6) It continued to leak and I reported it again to Superior Plumbing who offered to said they were only available early in the morning when it was not convenient for me. I explained to them that due to health issues, and the medication I am taking, mornings are not good for me. To date, I have not heard back from them,and there is still a leak;

AKK Builders Plumbing & Water Heaters
The positive experience began with Rolly who is friendly and a great
communicator. Anthony and his assistant came right on time and were
friendly, professional and did a great job replacing an old faucet in
one of the bathrooms. I am very happy to have found AKK Builders. I will
definitely call them again for any other projects. I highly recommend
    them.

AKK Builders Plumbing & Water Heaters
We got several quotes to replace our sewer line and all the quotes were about $6k for the whole line (including AKK).  Anthony at AKK recommended that it would be less expensive to only replace the line to the sidewalk, which would save us about $2k overall.  HOWEVER,  we did ask and he said that if we had to replace the street portion later, it would cost us more than the $2k we were saving.  He said he did this all the time and because the line in the street is set in concrete, not dirt, it didn't deteriorate like the line in the yard does.  I had never ever heard of this and was very uncomfortable, but he convinced my husband so we went ahead and only did the yard portion on his advice.
Three months later our line backed up again.  Anthony came out and cleared it, then came back with the camera to see what the issue was.  It turns out the line in the sidewalk settled after he replaced the line in our yard and now we have a low spot.  He recommended his subcontractor to now replace the street portion.  When the sub called me and I explained the situation, the first thing the guy said was "why didn't you replace the whole thing?  You really shouldn't have done it this way".  I was shocked.  So I got a quote from him, and to replace only the street portion is now going to cost us $4500!  In addition to this he charged us $250 to clear our line out and do the camera feed.
Overall it was ultimately our fault for making the decision to only do the yard portion of the line, even when I didn't feel totally comfortable with it.  However, I am not a plumber, so I trust professionals to give me accurate recommendations.  I also understand that technically the backup he cleared was not his fault as it appeared after he replaced the sewer based on settling.  But the low spot did appear because we listened to his recommendation, which now has cost us $250 plus $4500 to fix it ($2750 more than if we just replaced the whole line in the first place).
As far as his actual work, I have nothing negative to say.  The company was responsive and came and did the work they said they were going to do in a timely fashion.  They were clean and fast.
I would recommend them based on their actual work, but if you are doing a sewer line replacement, just do the whole thing, DON'T stop at the sidewalk!

These were not HUGE repairs, but was included in the $49 inspection fee.  When we have another plumbing issue, repair, or work we would definitely give these guys another shot at the work since they did not upsell us on the 2 leaks, which I believe some others would have done or forced us to negotiate with them.   I was not actually there, but writing the review based on my mom's satisfaction.

Arrived on time.  Installed the bathroom fan as agreed on.  Was careful to be neat and not track debris.  Arranged the switching for the light and fan as I requested.  Had to cut and patch wall to run wiring, patching job was carefully done.

The crew arrived on time and kept to the schedule we had been given. They kept the construction area as need a can be with that much construction and there was no problem accessing the residence during the construction. The quality of the work was what I expect the from professionals. I have had other work done by people that the word professional only meant "someone that is paid to do that work". This crew performed as journeymen through out the entire project.
