Primary and urgent care appeal to Dena because they allow her to have a broad scope of practice while building relationships with her patients. She was drawn to working at One Medical Group because of the innovative style, quality-improvement processes, and high patient and provider satisfaction. Dena is particularly interested in dermatology, family planning, and sports injuries, and she makes it a point to close each visit by making sure all of her patient’s questions and concerns have been addressed. In addition to cycling, running, hiking, traveling, tennis, and terrarium-building, Dena is a member of the volunteer group, “My Own Two Hands – Bay Area,” and has donated her time to organizations like GLIDE, SF Food Bank, SF Botanical Gardens, and Project Homeless Connect. Born in Eugene, Oregon and raised in San Diego, California, Dena originally relocated to San Francisco after her undergraduate studies to work at a non-profit in adolescent health and to explore a new city. Before returning to graduate school, Dena volunteered for two and a half years in rural Paraguay with the Peace Corps, during which time she recognized her desire to become a health care provider. Upon her return, Dena went on to earn a Masters in Public Health at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health as well as a Masters in Nursing as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at UCSF.
