Masonry reviews in San Fernando

    Robert Palacios Masonry Inc
Bob, the business owner, assessed the damaged walls in our backyard and came up with a creative salvage plan that surpasses the beauty of our original design.  The design was laid out for me to easily understand before the work commenced.  The existing concrete slab in front of the retaining wall and alongside the slump stone/wrought iron wall was expertly cut to make way for the new walls.  The new foundations were dug deep and carefully so as not to disturb the mature plants and trees.  The new walls were laid and completed with such expertise and precision, the outcome exceeding my expectations.  The  workers are true craftmen and they left everything in perfect order.  I can hardly wait to begin planting the expanded garden area that was created the new design.

The work was well worth the money invested.

on time and worked diligently through out the whole process. Ray was also available to answer any of my questions..  I  was very pleased with the end results.

    Mike Tim Beavers Masonry
This was so easy, I can't believe we didn't do it earlier. Mike gave me an initial estimate over the phone, based on photos I sent. Then he came out to look at the job and confirm his estimate. (Which proved to be accurate.) The work crew showed up on time, got the job done, cleaned everything up and the new wall looks great. They were on time, courteous and professional. No fuss, no muss. There were no hidden charges, I gave him a check at the end of the job when the work was complete. Would recommend and would work with them again.

    John Hopkins Construction Inc
Contacted John Hopkins, owner, who came promptly came over to look over what I wanted and quote price. I appreciated his input, as I don't always know options available. Project began on time with hardworking team and was done in 6 days. John oversaw and made sure things up to par and done with high caliber of work. I liked how they sought my input in things like planter height, brick pattern, choice of plants, etc., and took my comments seriously. At project's end, the neighbor's rocky yard looked like it might crumble onto my turf, and that was taken care of immediately. I was impressed when John even contacted fence guy from another company (that I did not know he knew prior to job) to fix a post top on my fence that cracked and detracts from front yard appeal. I really appreciated that detail and critical eye and taking care of my property the way I would as homeowner. Receipts, warranty, pix I needed sent to me as promised. I would definitely use again this company again.

Everything was fine.  Lots of nice ideas and advice at our meeting in my yard reinforced what I already new and added some value as well.  Never actually emailed me the sketch/estimate he was supposed to however.  I guess he wasn't interested or maybe he got the idea I wouldn't go for the price.  If so, he could be right.  Or maybe he only does much larger or expensive jobs and my flight of steps didn't qualify.  I supposed I'll never know, but no great harm done.  I'll just try something else.  The information which goes into this review is quite sparse as 3 of the 5 criteria are not applicable.

Update after 5/4/14 Brik-Art response asking for another replay: Hi Craig.  Thank you for all your good efforts.  Other than my notes saying the meeting was just a shade tad earlier (4/21) everything jives here.  The situation on your end is well explained and all appears accurate.  I just got tired of marking it forward on my calendar repeatedly and I finally gave up hope so I could move on.  Then Angie's prompted me to review so I did one.  The only available higher grade I could have given you would have been an "A".  Obviously, that's not the situation here.  The B is charitable enough and I'm sorry you interpret any non-A as drastically negative.  The individual scored criteria were also very reasonable and I rounded a D and a B to a B as well.  Other than deleting the feedback, I can't envision a way to do better.  If you absolutely demand perfect scores, you really do have to be just that .. perfect.  You did fine given the difficult circumstances you describe.  Perfect No.  (btw I really like insistence on perfection in a contractor, it's the very best trait I can think of.  Being easy going is also high up on my list, you're not there yet on that one).

Joe Messineo is perhaps the most professional and exacting contractor I have met. He is present onsite during the entire process and has a small crew that assists him, and additional subs for the concrete portion of the job. I can't recommend an individual any stronger than I can Joe. His bids are constructed using a "time and materials" approach and he holds himself accountable throughout the process. While he was, and is, the highest priced masonry contractor in the SFV area for this type of job, his craftmanship is of the highest quality. It is true, you get what you pay for.

Just wanted to not to members that he charges $50 just to come out and give an estimate (credited back if you decide to go with him).
His prerogative but was surprised, esp since they advertise "small jobs."

This company is the best.   Joe is easy to work with, customer oriented, knowledgeable, professional, prompt and responsive.  My job was a repair after my plumber jack hammered the concrete walkway to replace a root-clogged area drain,  I was new to Angie's list and looked up concrete repair guys.  When I saw all the glowing reviews of Joe's work, I called him, got an estimate that included an allowance for being a member of Angie's List and agreed to have him do the work.  I was pleasantly surprised when he called to say he could do the work ahead of schedule.  He and his crew showed up when he said they would and went right to work without having to have me show them the area needing repair (actually, I had already described the basic area in our first conversation, but he did remember what I told him).  He and his crew did a beautiful job at a reasonable price.  I guess I'm just adding to the well-deserved excellent reviews.  He's my man for any and all future masonry work.

    Robert Palacios Masonry Inc
After the Northridge earthquake, we had pilasters installed to shore up the existing slumpstone walls surrounding the backyard. Recently we noticed that some of the pilasters were detaching from the actual wall, but it wasn't until one actually toppled over that we realized that they contained no rebar supports, nor were attached to the wall. So in other words, they were merely decorative and only gave the illusion of support.
Since we live on a corner and there were pilasters along the public-facing sidewalk (a lawsuit waiting to happen), we needed to remedy the situation ASAP.  We used Angie's List to research local companies who do masonry work.  Based on the reviews, Robert Palacios Masonry was highly recommended and we were pleased to receive a call back within 24 hours. I emailed some photos via my iPhone and Bob was able to drop by and provide an estimate the same day. We felt that he gave an honest assessment of what needed to be done and quoted us a fair price. He provided various options, but also gave his recommendation as to the 'best' option vs. a more 'economical' option. The following day we received another estimate which was lower, but we chose to use Robert Palacios Masonry since he didn't cut any corners and we felt that we would be getting a lasting and quality product.
Bob's company was able to start work the following day which was important to us. On the promised start date, he and his crew arrived promptly and they always kept us informed of the progress of the project. After a backyard shed was removed, he discovered some previously hidden cracks in a wall that needed repair. Again, we were quoted us a fair price to make those additional repairs. Another plus was that whenever the crew left for the day, the yard was left in a tidy state, which we appreciated.
We are very pleased with the wall repair and pilaster replacement provided by Robert Palacios Masonry and would not hesitate to recommend this company to others.

    Adalian Landscape Inc.
Bob Adalian is advertising now under his father's license, but Bob Adalian is an unlicensed contractor who has been previously cited, fined and issued a Stop Order from the California State Contractor's License Board.    There are also many negative complaints from other consumers, including a Better Business Bureau Complaint in December, 2011.
Bob Adalian is not licensed, is unable to get licensed, and has - in the past - used nothing but undocumented workers.   One of these workers caused an accident wherein the large landcape truck drove into someone's home - and Bob did not have the insurance to cover the damages.
The CSLB has sent me certified copies of his citations and abatement orders to prove that this is the truth.
Please research the reviews on this company via Google - you will see the other negative comments that have been posted - and sadly, these complaints have all come since Bob Adalian starting hiding behind his father's company name.
Adalian Landscape had a stellar reputation prior to Bob Adalian (a.k.a. Bob Adalian Landscaping) beginning to work under his dad's company name.
