Hydrex Pest Control - North Bay
When I accepted the $95.00 Angies list offer and called to make the appt., I was told that the Hydrex inspector
would do a thorough inspection, and identify where/what our issues were and  that he would have  ?hydration bait? or ?traps? on his truck  to be  able to assist us right away.
The gentleman that arrived did not have traps or bait available, but said he would send me a proposal right away.  It took a week and a phone call from me  to get this proposal.  The proposal was for $845 to plug some holes and set some traps and
I was shocked to see a disclaimer on this proposal , t hat  there was minimum job cost of $650.00!
I am a practicing architect,  know current construction costs, and the fees they  quoted are way above industry standards.  All I can assume is that hey were inflated as such to meet this "minimum job cost " .  I asked the office person at the time I booked the appt. what the estimated costs were to set up these traps, etc.  I was told about $175-200 with return trips to empty traps, and other work  priced by  what was discovered.  I emphasized to the  office person before I booked the appt. that that was
it .  At no time was I told of a minimum job cost of $650, or I never  would have signed up with this company.

I feel that I  was ripped off! I wasted my $95 fee that I paid, as the company misrepresented what their services, timing and fees were.   I honestly hope no one else has to be taken advantage of by your company.

    JK Control
I use Monte at JK Control regularly to inspection homes for my buyers and sellers.  Monte thoroughly inspects the properties, including attics and crawlspaces (as applicable), and provides a detailed, written report with repair costs.

The communication was lacking. I thought they were to come out and spray in my attic for rodents. When they came they walked around my house and stuffed something in some holes so rodents could not enter. Then they put two traps with peanut butter in my attic. This took all of 30 minutes and they were gone. For this I was charged $400 and I have never heard from them since. I assumed they would come back and tell me if they found any rodents.
Update: they called me and apparently something went wrong and the service was not finished. They did start over and their service has been very good the second time. I still think the cost is a little high but they have followed thru and made sure everything was done properly the second time.

    Planet Orange
I was recently contacted by the manager of the local planet orange as a
follow up to my review and Angie's list complaint  Scott, the manager
was extremely apologetic about what happened and did his best to make
things right.  As a result of Scott's actions, I have updated the score
based on an average of my initial dealings and those with Scott.

That turned out just fine. There was trouble getting the deal to work. They were not notified that Angie’s List was offering the deal. Scheduling was hard and there was a communication issue between Angie’s List and Planet Orange. The overall service was fine.

    Planet Orange
i purchased an angie's list deal which promised a call back and scheduled appointment within two days.  Two days past and I finally called them on the third day and had two wait three more days for them to come out.  By the time they showed up my bug problem had diminished.  Since this was paid for I had them come out and complete the work.
They sprayed the "good stuff" and it killed whatever it came on contact with.  We still have bugs and spiders, so I don't know how effective they really are.  Our initial problem was resolved, but I don't know if that was from the treatment or nature.
The person who came out on site was professional and easy to work with.  He did promise to identify the bugs and did not follow through on that.  In the future, I will go with a regular exterminator that uses a less green treatment that will actually solve the problem.

The service turned out okay. There were no additional charges to the big deal I purchased. This was the first time we used them. The technicians were great. The stuff seems to work. The first tech we had was very adamant about their thirty-day guarantee and said that we had to call them back if we saw stuff or if we saw some more ants. So a couple of weeks later, I could see more colony activity. I tried calling back, but I had to call four or five times over the course of two weeks to get through to somebody like the guy I supposedly talk to would never call back. So, I was just guessing because it was through a deal and they did not want to have to honor their thirty day thing, but I just kept calling and eventually got through. They sent someone out to spray again. Eventually it worked out, but it just got kind of annoying.

    DRISKELL FUMIGATION INC
The service was okay. It was slightly above average but it was not exceptional. They did everything on time. The only thing that was a little off was that we had to get another company involved in order to do preparation work. They did make that clear. On the whole we were happy with their service and we would use them again. It is difficult to pin point.

    Humble Bee Removal
I called Humble Bee on a Saturday because of a sudden steady stream of bees going in and out of my attic.. The owner (Jason? I'm so sorry I can't remember his name!) called back shortly after my initial call to discuss the problem and booked an appointment for Monday, based on my description of the bee behavior and the fact no one in the house is allergic to bees. Fortunately by the time he arrived, the bees had mostly left. He investigated to make sure they had really gone, then blocked their entrance point.

He was very careful to make sure the work looked right on the house; my husband didn't even notice what was done until I pointed it out.

I was really impressed by his knowledge of bee behavior and removal. I also liked the fact that he will remove the hive without harming it. I would definitely call him again if I had bees or wasps, and recommend Humble Bee without reservation..

    Orkin Pest Control
I have had a very bad experience. here is what i felt happened to me. The first visit was okay, though costly. I was advised to install better rodent screens. I did this, at a cost of $250, over and above what I paid them. It turns out that did the trick: no rodents since then. But I also was promised excellent, repeat service if I signed an annual contract, for which I would receive bi-monthly inspections. They missed the first inspection, not coming out until I called to remind them. Then they came on a day when no one was home and charged me $102, charged to my credit card. When I saw the charge and protested they said their records showed they had talked to me and I agreed to the appointment. Of course, I would not be writing this caution to my fellow consumers if that were true. I then canceled the annual contract, and they agreed. They also said they would rescind the charge. They did neither. Two months later I was home, by coincidence, and the service fellow came. I let him do his thing. There were no rodents, nor sign of rodents. I then called and told them to let the earlier charge stand and not bill me for the second, reminding them to cancel the contract. They agreed with all three suggestions. However, they then billed me for the second visit, leaving the charge for the first in place. Of course by now it was too late to protest the first charge with the credit card company. I again phoned. They had not canceled the contract and, after some tense conversation they agreed to refund half of the first charge and to cancel the contract. Of course, I would not be writing this caution to my fellow consumers if they had done as they promised. Both charges still stand. I now am in bureaucratic h*ll with these people from the Hayward office. Yesterday they again said the contract was canceled. They deny any knowledge of an agreement to refund any part of the first charge. I am having the credit card company deny payment. My strongest advice: 1. Work with a local; avoid these bureaucratic chains. They seem not to care and seem to have constant turn-over, 2. Install great screens and other physical barriers. 3. If you are forced to go with a chain, I suggest one other then Orkin. 4. Do not sign up for extra service or an on-going contract. React to problems as they arise.
