Deck Building reviews in San Carlos

  • Bruce was extremely accommodating with his time frame.  He worked around my schedule.  They showed up on time each day(a 3 day project); did an outstanding job, and cleaned up each time.  They did a very thorough job, including power-washed and sealed the under-side of the deck to preserve it.  It looks like a brand new deck.  Bruce even came by afterwards to check-out the work.

  • I could not have asked for a better experience.  My wife and I had be putting off a repair that we know needed to be done, but were scary to think about.  When we bought our home we knew the deck was attached in a manner which allowed water to enter the walls and cause water damage.  After speaking to a number of contractors found on Angie's List we decided to go with Dave.
He agreed to exploring the extent of the damage for three days and to determine how to proceed at that point.  Dave had estimated that after three days they would know the extent of the damage and most likely begin repairs if all damage was superficial.  During the initial exploration Dave and his team had bad news.  The damage was more extensive than thought.  The soundness of rear wall of our home was clearly compromised by the water damage.  The lead on the job, Alfonzo, keep us up to date on what they learned each day and he and Dave helped us sort through our options.
Dave was very considerate of our budget and ensuring a needed repairs were done to have our home protected and safe. He guided us through inspections, engineering diagrams and stucco work.  He had referrals who could respond quickly and at good rates.  All of Dave's sub-contractors where of excellent quality and I do not have a bad words to say about anything but my house.
The two thing I liked best about working with Dave and his crew is that they are considerate and answered all of my questions.  Some of the questions quite stupid in hindsight, "do you really need to rip out that stucco".  Only after pulling the stucco in question did they determine the source of the water entering the wall, a screw hole securing the handrail of the deck.
Dave always kept an eye on the budget explaining the pros and cons at every step including the choice of engineer and when discussing with the inspector options for ensuring the structural soundness of the house and deck.
I will not hesitate to recommend Dave to anyone.  I have already requested he paint my house and we are figuring out having him back next year to upgrade the deck.
    Thank you Dave!

  • Daniel was very responsive to all of my communications and questions. He offered detailed advice on choice and style of stain and was completely open and honest about the scope of the job. The work was completed on time and at the pre-agreed upon price and the results look outstanding. I will definitely contact him not only when my deck needs to be stained again, but about interior painting jobs as well.

  • Our experience with Nick was outstanding.  He'is a super responsible and conscientious about his work and leaves the work site as clean or better than when he started.  He's happy to offer suggestions and completes his work on time and on budget.
We will be using his services again in the future.

  • Vlad is a trustworthy and skilled contractor. Not only did he handle all of our electrical needs but I had him do several other projects too when I discovered the diverse skill sets he has as a general contractor. Highly recommend for nearly any home project - if he can't do it (rare) he knows someone who can for a very reasonable price and similar quality.

  • From start to finish, Justin and Ian were a pleasure to work with. They are extremely professional and have a wealth of expertise. They were able to provide us with valuable feedback regarding materials and construction. They helped us work with the City when we made changes to our plans. We had other contractors on the job site and they did an excellent job working and communicating with them. Justin and Ian were very flexible in meeting our needs. Their customer service is superior and they genuinely care about their customers. We will definitely be using them again!

  • From the get go, I liked Ian and Justin's approach. They were very consultative and really seemed interested in helping us with all the questions we had first - and getting the job second. Because we didn't really know what we were doing (had been putting off this project for years) that meant they really had to educate us which they did with a smile. Even when we presented them with the unique railing design, they did some research on their own to help advise us on what we needed to do. They arrived on time, worked all day long, cleaned up each day and checked in periodically (project took about 2 weeks) to make sure we were aware of the status of the project. They weren't the most or least expensive but did quality work at a reasonable price. I would recommend them to anyone with a deck or fence project and don't be afraid to throw something different at them. I've got some fencing and another deck that I will be working on and they have made it easy for me to just call them and have them do the work rather than getting a bunch of estimates again.

  • I called Daniel and he came out within one day to look over the exterior of my house and provide an estimate for painting.  He was very responsive and knowlegeable.  My house has two stories, is about 2500 sq ft and sits on the ridge of a canyon, so painting the exterior is no easy job.  Daniel seemed to have a lot of experience and was easy to talk to.  I felt he would have done an excellent job on my house, but his estimate turned out to be outside my budget.  I received estimates from five different painting companies and his was not the highest, but was on the higher end.  Daniel was easy to work with and I will defintely try working with him on other projects in the future.

  • The designing stage was the most fun. It started years before work began. After interviewing several landscapers, Metamorphosis was the only one who gave us the confidence that they could handle this large demanding project. We started with a bare bones concept, due to the large size of the area. We went on two "Garden Tours" conducted by Metamorphosis to help us gather ideas & concepts. It was after the second Garden Tour that our project blossomed forth beyond the basics, with ideas coming out from both the designer & us, the client. The dinner meetings to discuss the designs & ideas were a pleasure, imagining what our new back yard was going to look like when it was all over. I noticed other curious customers in the restaurant glancing over at the project drawings & smiling. While my wife was more focused on the vegetation, I was interested in the intricate engineering that was to be involved. Yet Metamorphosis was well educated in both aspects. Wile Metamorphosis was most helpful in the designing of our project, they were also a key to the success of working with city engineers who gave us hurdles to jump at every turn. The city requirements can make you pull your hair out, but the requirements are there for a purpose. Working with the city makes for a smoother process in completing the project & Metamorphosis spent many daytime hours meeting with the city inspectors & engineers, reducing my need to take time off from work. This truly was the negative part of the project. The city had so many specific requirements for a hill-side project that we ran into cost-overruns. Metamorphosis worked tirelessly to make the city mandated changes to the project and keep the same aesthetics to the design. I would suggest everyone find out what their city requirements will be for a project before starting. So much for the negative, back to the positive. While it seemed the city got in the way, it did make for an overall safer project. The transition took two years to complete. Year one was removing the old vegetation & structures and building the infrastructure for the new. We briefly lived with a barren wasteland over the winter months, thinking about the new yard to come. The yard seemed strangely small at this time. When the old deck was removed, we found the previous owner and actually attached the old deck to the house. We had to hire someone to stucco & paint the house to cover where the old deck had been. This also meant the old deck was using the house to support it. The new deck would meet the house, but not be attached to it. It would be totally self supporting with pillars sunk down 9 feet blow the surface to bedrock. And then the spring came, along with the new trees & bushes. The completion of the staircase seemed like the completion of the trans-continental railway. Travel could now be safely & quickly made between the top & bottom of the back yard. That one icon felt like the turning point in the project, we were nearing the end. The engineering of that staircase was more involved than it seemed. It is actually designed as two individual retaining walls sloping diagonally up the hillside that happen to have a walk way between them. Another plus about the staircase is that it does not overwhelm the hillside, visually it blends in as it rises up the hill side-ways. It is not a monster stone structure on a flowery hillside, it is a complimenting accent. When we talked about the large side of the deck that would be seen from the yard below we decided that plain wood boarding would only create a monster structure at the top of the hill that would not fit in with a flowering hillside. Lattice siding was suggested instead of solid wood and Metamorphosis immediately came up with the idea of vines that would grow over the lattice & create a vegetation wall of leaves & flowers that would fit in perfectly with the rest of the hillside. Now the deck was as invisible as the stone staircase, giving a get-away retreat feel to the back yard. The final sign-off by the city approving the completion of the project was a celebration day. We could now look at the new yard & stairs and wonder how we lived without it. It just all seems so perfect. We just don't want to think about the old back yard. We have a back yard of micro-climates, and Metamorphosis had to strategically select which plants would survive in different areas. Burning sunlight bakes some areas while others are in cool shade all day. After one year of completion, we found their selections to be true. Only a small handful of plants did not make it through the climate changes, the dozens of other plants are still there thriving. A new Maple tree had been planted to help shade the scorching side of the yard the year before, and that will help with the micro-climate factor.

  • Their pricing was good. He has a good attitude. He is conscientious. Everything about them is good. They are top quality. They are professional and friendly. The guy is so busy that I don't know if he could even take more clients right away. He is in such demand. He is terrific. They are going to do some more fencing for me. I would use them again in the future.
