  • I am very pleased that I decided to work with BMH Electrical. My house needed the electrical system completely overhauled. To give you an idea of how outdated the electrical was in my house, there was still knob and tube being used in much of the house. He replied to my inquiry promptly and we met up to figure out what I wanted completed. His price was right about what I was anticipating. He was straightforward with how much each element would cost. He informed me that he would not do the job unless it would be up to code with the proper permits. He made a couple of suggestions that were really good ideas, like turning the plugs sideways to match the style of the house and recessed lights in the living room with dimmer switches.
We arranged a date for him to start. The first phase of the job was November 29-December 5-6. He and one of his workers ended up being able to start on the 28th during the morning. He and his workers arrived on time and worked efficiently. They had to cut holes in the wall to run the wires properly and they saved all the little circles they cut out, which made it easier on my sheet rock contractor. Fortunately my house has a basement and the entire underside of the house was easily assessable, so they were able to run the new wiring without much difficulty. They removed all the old wiring as they came across it. He relocated the fuse box because it was cleverly placed over the gas meter, which is a code violation. He put in a new circuit breaker because the old one was a Federal Pacific that have a propensity to start fires. He put in wired smoke detectors, so if one goes off, the ones in the other bedrooms go off as well. He made sure all the appliances had their own circuits as well as the furnace. He labeled the circuit breaker panel too. Almost all of the plugs had to be arranged, so they would fit with the baseboards, so Brian thought to use larger boxes, so it could be adjusted once the baseboards were installed. They ended up finishing earlier than expected on the 3rd and then had PG&E come out on the 4th or 5th to run the new line to the house. The old line was only 100 or so, so the new one is 220. He finished the plugs he was able to, like the ones in the kitchen, that weren't dependent on other projects in the house being finished.
The second phase of the project was after other projects were completed, which was early May. Brian and his workers came and finished up. They installed all the plugs, light switches, and light fixtures. I bought the light fixtures and had them ready for install. Brian bought the recessed lighting and all the other supplies. He came back a couple weeks later to install a light in the back and to complete a plug that I'd somehow not noticed before.
Brian was present for all the inspections and passed without any corrections each time. When I had an inspection for something else in the house, the inspector commented on how the electrical was done well.
The whole process was simple and efficient. He was always easy to get in contact with. I added a couple things to the contract during the process and he was still able to complete the work faster than expected. I've been living in the house for a couple of months and everything is working perfectly. Whenever I need electrical work done, I'll be using Brian's company.

  • Installation was smooth.  The lawn lighting was installed very well and they look great. There was just one minor hiccup.
In addition to the lawn lighting, we also had motion sensing lighting installed. Unfortunately one of the two-headed motion sensing unit was defective and they installed a uni-head halogen light in its place (saying the same model was not available at the nearby Lowe's at the time). Turns out my wife does not like the look of that unit so I called them up and they replaced it with a working two-headed unit that same week.
