General Contracting reviews in Royal Oaks

    Precision Built Construction

Jason is the owner of this business. He was very responsive with his call back (called me back in about 10 minutes), courteous, professional. When I described the work I had that needed attention he said that it sounded like fairly simple and general "handyman" type jobs. I'm assuming he had bigger general contractor type projects because Jason said that because the work sounded fairly simple he would send somebody else over, an older gentleman named Dave. I was fine with that, totally fair. I know a lot of people can do these tasks on their own it's just that I have absolutely no handyman knowledge whatsoever and no real tools. Jason vouched for Dave as a good guy and because of the nature of the task he should be in and out and not "milk the time."

Overall, having Dave work at the house was a pleasant experience. He is a really nice guy, friendly. And he did good work. I'm no handyman but I figured this was fairly simple work and even Jason thought so too over the phone. I thought at most the whole thing might take 2-3 hours  -- I ended up getting charged for 5 five hours. I think there should have been better communication if Dave thought the work was going to go beyond 2 or 3 hours because then I don't think it would be considered an "in and out" job, like Jason said.

I would have given this business an "A" for price as I thought the $65 per hour for labor that Jason charged was very competitive, especially with the peace of mind that comes with it that this business is "legit" being bonded and insured as well. But I went with the grade of "B" because in the end I felt like there should have been better communication if he expected the work to take more than 3 hours, meaning I would end up paying over $300, so it felt like the job was indeed milked for time and ultimately my money.

I was told Dave would arrive between 9-10am, he arrived around 9:45. He left around 11:30 to go to Home Depot (only 3 miles away) to pick up one wood door frame and other miscellaneous materials required for the job (that is the $24.74 included in the total cost of $349.74 for the job). Dave said he would take about a 30 minute lunch break. He didn't get back to the house until about 1:45pm. And then finally finished at around 4:30pm. It was fortunate that I didn't have any other plans that day but to stay at the house all day. Thus the "C" for punctuality and professionalism.

I was torn about writing this review at all as both Jason and Dave seem like good guys doing good work. I understand things don't always go as planned or expected but that is why I wish there was better communication so I wouldn't have received the negative surprise at the end. I think I would use these guys again but next time I will probably get more clarification on the timeline of the project.

The company I did hire did a great job. Great company! Great owner! He came with the estimate and answers all of phone calls. He educated me on a lot of stuff. He took the time to explain things to me. He took the time to make a trip out to help me in choosing my roofing materials because it was important to me and that was good. I think the cost estimate of the whole service is $20,000 because they did other works. I had a complete re-roofing – I had wooden shake roof so they have to put down plywood and then composite. It is a big job. He also put voided gutters to and downspouts. He also replaced the metal screens that go along the whole the house line. They replaced those for me because they are rotting through.

Things went very good over the entire project. We don't have any complaints. Communication is great at every step of the way. Every single employee of theirs was clean, courteous, and respectful of our property. It was always the same workers, which is nice knowing who is coming and going from your property. The whole crew is trustworthy and worked hard. They showed up when they said they would and that goes a long way with us! The project took a few months to complete so we really got a good view of Precision Built and their quality work. We would/will definitely hire Precision Built in the future.

We started with demolition of the kitchen and 2 of the 3 baths. From there we kept going until all of the dry rot and funky old wall coverings were removed (40 year old house with many poorly attempted remodels but good bones).  We also had to demolish the garage roof/deck and beef up the framing under the kitchen. From there we upgraded all the electrical and remodeled the kitchen and 3 baths to todays design. The house came out fantastic and my son says it looks like something you see in a magazine!
