  • It went very well and we are very pleased with the final outcome. It is beautiful. Lou and his StoneAge team are highly professional and were responsive to all our requests. They did all of the demolition, tileing, electrical and plastering. He also did all the subcontracting for the cabinets, floors, and painting. The folks he works with are all very professional and attentive to detail. It was great to have one person responsible for the entire project. We did run in to unexpected plumbing and sewer issues which stretched out the timeline. But Lou and crew dealt with it in a professional and timely manner and brought in a great plumbing crew. It turned into a bigger project than we originally planned. But we are very pleased with the final outcome and our guests are very complimentary about the excellent work on our home.

  • We hired American home improvement to redo the flooring and stairs in our house as well as crown molding in the kitchen and a built-in entertainment center in the living room. Everything looks spectacular and we absolutely love the floors that our project manager helped us choose. The entertainment center looks great however we did have to wait a few extra days for the designs because one of the designers went out of town. But they did finish everything on time and we love the way it looks. I would hire again and I recommended them to friends and family. Thanks guys will see you again soon for the bathrooms!

  • It was perfect. The husband and wife team of Jessica and Joshua was a joy to work with from beginning to end. Jessica was prompt , friendly, and meticulous in measuring the window. She was able to locate the magnets for my existing shutters which were broken. The hardest part was locating the broken shutter piece for the bedroom and she was able to. When the order was in, Joshua came to install it. He was professional, friendly, and did a wonderful job in installing the shutter. He installed the magnets and he meticulously installed the broken shutter piece. I was so impressed and happy that I didn't have to replace the entire shutter which would have been costly. In his holiday spirit he even gave me a discount and did not charge me for the magnets. Who does that? I will definitely use this company in the future and happily recommend to others. Thank you Jessica and Joshua!

  • Very poorly run.  Currently at a year and 3 months of what was originally promised to be a 6 month job.  Still not completed and still not seeing any ongoing presence of a general contractor running the job.  
    Schedule:  I don't know if my experience is typical, but this poor performance has been very consistent over more than a year of dealing with this contractor.  On rare days, two subcontractors show up to work in parallel, most days only 1 contractor with 1 helper show up to make very slow progress on a single item.  Many days no one shows up.  I kept track of days worked versus days not worked over the summer and totaled up 26 days with workers on the job out of the total of 76 workdays (including Saturdays).  I finally gave up counting and have had more phone calls and onsite meetings to "reset" the schedule than I can count.  The simple fact is that there is almost no oversight or coordination of this job.  The city building department in RPV has even gotten frustrated with this contractor due to missed appointments for inspection.  This is very rare as most other contractors and architects find this office to be very easy to work with.
    Cost:  Another item to be aware of is that with this contractor, absolutely everything MUST be spelled out in detail in the contract you sign.  I had many bidders in the proposal process and Supreme Remodeling seemed both responsive and professional during the sales cycle.  When it came down to the contract, they said they bid to exactly the same plans and build notes that all others bid to, but on further examination whole sections of the build were ignored in their proposal, such as our HVAC system details, Pool Equipment relocation and Bathroom Vanities and Cabinets.  As well, the allowances for cabinets, flooring and tile in the build were minimal, so keep this in mind in considering their bid.  The original amount in the contract was ~$350k, but with all the change orders to put in items that were largely in the plans all other bidders were including in their proposals, the real price is just under $430k and still counting!  We would certainly have made a different choice had we known we had push every detail into the contract with these folks.
    Quality:  On the note of quality, we have had to continually point the many of the contractor's subcontractors back to the details already in the drawing and have them redo work.  This accounted for a portion of the delay, but not as much as the contractors simply not showing up for days.  It took four tries for their roofing contractor to finally stop a single roof leak in the entryway of the house in the newly constructed section of roof.  Supreme's HVAC contractor and tile contractors (3 to be specific, they started with one, then switched to another, then were lining up a 3rd to actually do the work when we gave up and got our own tile subcontractor) did not inspire any confidence so we felt compelled to go find our own.  The quality of their framing has been spotty, causing their counter fabricators and finish carpenter to have to make many adjustments to make things level, flat and square.  Their flooring contractor, plumber and finish contractor have been excellent.
    Overall, had I known at the time of selecting a contractor what I know now, I would have chosen a different general contractor.  Certainly no contractor is perfect, but this one has simply not been responsive, has not been easy to work with, and in large part has simply not been paying attention to this job after getting the contract.  So my family is still stuck in a rental unit waiting.

  • It went terrible! Nearly all of the requests you would expect a handyman to know how to do, such as installing a kitchen faucet, he did not know how to do. He wanted to call his plumber friend and charge me more money. I also asked him to change a light switch and he started then seemed uncertain if the new switch would work. He left it undone with the plate covers removed. We spent about an hour just talking about why he was not comfortable with the other typical handyman requests I made. (Changing a toilet, replacing a little grout, etc) So I asked him to do the items he was comfortable with but I wanted a credit for the time that was wasted since I only had him for a few hours per the offer. His response was something to the effect...so you want me to work for free! I said no but you wasted an hour explaining and calling other people to ask for help on things a reasonable person would expect from a handyman. I then suggested that we split the baby and at least give me 30 minutes credit for time wasted. He refused and I asked him to leave. His reply was that his specialty is finish carpentry and I told him then that is how he should advertise his services and NOT as a handyman who does general handy work.

  • Kevin delivered and over achieved everything that we contracted.  He was very professional, on time, thorough and really knew what he was doing in constructing a beautiful addition to our house.  He pre-painted all the wood, worked closely with my wife (which is not easy) and I to build a solid well constructed pergola to enhance the use of our yard and pool area.  Even though he is a general contractor his deep knowledge and experience in framing and carpentry really made the job.

  • We had asked eight different general contractors to submit estimates/bids for our full house interior remodeling project. All contractors were selected from Angie's list or/and yelp, all with excellent reviews and ratings. Being full time working parents of two young kids, and having a very little experience with house remodeling, ultimately we were looking for a contractor/crew the we could trust to execute on time and close to a proposed budget (and without "sweeping anything under a rug"). The estimate from Stone Age Designs was the most detailed and the easiest to understand. It was also the least ambiguous of all eight estimates that we've received (the labor costs were separated from the materials allocations and the estimated prices of materials were clearly identified). Moreover, Lou Philippe and his crew of Stone Age Designs invested by far the most time in measuring our house, and discussing what exactly we would like to do prior to submitting their bid. We ended up selecting Lou Philippe and Stone Age Designs for our project, and now, almost two month after the end of the project, we could not be happier with their work.
    The project took three month two complete (very closed to the originally plan). The entire process went very smoothly. No surprises! Throughout the project we had been in constant communication with Lou via email and text. He was extremely responsive: quick email replies any time of the day or night, very detailed invoicing, and always willing to spend time to answer questions. We had regular meetings (typically once a week) at the house, to discuss and inspect the progress, as well as to plan for the next week. Throughout the project,  Lou was a tremendous help with selecting materials (tiles, hardwood, paint, accessories, etc). Based on our selections, he did most of the purchasing and hauling himself. In addition, Lou took care of all the permitting, inspections and other city related headaches (with absolutely no delays to our great satisfaction). Moreover, Lou helped us a lot with elements of interior design (I probably should not say "he helped us" but rather write he "did" the design). We had shown him several inspiration shots of what final look of the house we desire. Based on our inspiration photographs, Lou prepared three different layouts, complete with 3D renderings. Similarly for master and kids bathrooms, he offered us at least 8 different layouts. Once we finalized the layouts, the crew quickly went to work. Often, they had to work around the material availability, as we managed to select few of the tile and plumbing products that required an extended shipping time. Both, kitchen and bathrooms were build very quickly (that is including custom cabinets and vanities). The crew was at the house six days a week (and sometimes seven), often working 10 hour days and then more. Both Lou and the crew members did show extreme attention to details. For example, after the interior of the house was painted they didn't just move on, but instead went around the house and carefully inspected and marked all (even the littlest) of the defects that required re-work. Similar inspection was done at the very end of the project. The payment schedule was NOT front loaded by any means, and seemed quite reasonable. Towards the end of the project they surprised us by performing few upgrades that we didn't ask for completely free of charge (e.g. install new doors for a hallway closet doors, extra smooth painting, some additional electrical work in the garage) The crew was very respectful and a pleasure to deal with (for example, whenever we were walking around the house, inspecting the progress, they would always pause and offer explanations of what there were busy with at the moment). At the day of the project completion, we found the house to be sparkling clean and ready for moving in (the windows and mirrors were wiped, the floors vacuumed, they even power washed the back yard and our drive way).  The stone age designs also came back few weeks after we moved in to do a quick inspection, and replaced a faulty faucet.  We are very happy with the quality of the work and overall experience.

  • We did a full remodeling of our house, down to the studs. This was the first time we did any kind of work let alone a full blown remodeling. We were able to rely on Brigada's experience and advises. They did give us good advices to best use our money to do a quality job. They are a team of very good craftsmen. They do a refine job. my husband is all about practicality , i am all about esthetics. Brigada was great in dealing with both my husband and I to make sure we were both happy. they were able to execute a lot of custom design that the architect or myself designed, like custom fireplace (2) and ceiling beam corniches and column that came out sooo pretty (in master bedroom and master bathroom). They really have hands of gold. They also have a very good specialist to do tile work. . i am so obsessed with details and quality (i work in the fashion industry which explains it!) and he did an impeccable work; the bathrooms and the kitchen looks so beautiful. it was always the same team of workers working on our house; we got to know them and we really like them. they were so helpful and kind. if i couldnot visualize somethig they would make mock up for me to see and decide what was best. Really nice and helpful people which was a very important feel good factor as this is our home they were working on!
    My husband and I, both work full time and are not very reachable during business hours. Brigada was very flexible and easy to communicate with. we could call them early in the morning or late at night. They would send me email or text pictures so i could visualize things they were asking me to make decision on; so i could give them answers quickly and not slow down the momentum. when i wasn't sure, i could count on their guidance. they have a very good taste level which was very helpful when i had to pick molding, paint color etc... and if it did not look right , they didn't opt for the "cheaper" way of doing thing but they really aspire to do a quality job.
    Regarding schedule, they were on a mission to beat the due date. they started work as early as our city permits and worked until 6pm when necessary as well as every saturday. this was really great because we could meet them on the jobsite every saturday or after work. Brigada is a partnership of 2 contractors that make a great team; that was a great advantage as it was always at least one of them on the jobsite - every day. that was very important.
    our house is in Palos Verdes Estates which has a very demanding city and art jury. Brigada was very good in dealing with both our city and art jury which relieved a lot of stress for us. now that we are back in the house and as we see details or touch up that needs to be done, we call them and they come and do it without us having to "chase" after them. really easy. They are great. we made a great choice to have them remodel our house.
