    Peter Stein MD
He is good. He is able to refer you to other doctors that are out of his specialty. The wait time is sometimes long but that's actually part of why he is good. He'll take 45 minutes with his patient if that's what it's going to take to get everything resolved and I think his patient's kind of understand that. That if you're waiting it's because he will take whatever amount of time you need.

I see Dr. Itso and have been with her for about 15-20 years.  She gets me to referrals whenever I need them.  I think I like the bedside manner more so than the medical side of it but they go hand in hand.  She is very responsive to me.  Her services are good, but Kaiser is an HMO clinic and so you have to wait.

Maybe it works for some people, but I would say that unless you enjoy being scolded like a child and talked down to, don't go to this doctor.

He is in a private practice, and I started to question whether his decisions were driven by his needs, or mine.

He would not listen to me at all.  Every time I saw him he was very grim and did not even try to hide that he disapproved of me.  If that motivates you to work on having a healthier life, then he might be an adequate doctor for you.  I thought he was horrible, and not exactly a great example of being a healthy person himself.

This doctor eventually caused me to feel as angry as I have ever felt.

At my last appointment with Dr. Goodman, I explained to him that I was going through a divorce, and not only was that stressful, I was losing my health insurance.   He dismissed this information as unimportant and handed me literature on a "Food Addicts Anonymous" meeting.  This was just the latest scolding from him about being overweight.  At least it was a feeble attempt to offer some kind of solution instead of just trying to make me feel bad about myself.

A couple of weeks later he called and insisted that I needed to come to his office to receive a prescription for diabetes.  I was very suspicious of him by this point--if it's so important that I start taking this drug he wants to prescribe, why not just call it in to my pharmacy?  Why did i have to pay out-of-pocket for an office visit?

I did what he asked, but canceled the appointment later.  When I canceled the appointment, I stressed to his staff that I did not have insurance, and just needed to keep my current prescriptions going, and, that I was now paying full price for the prescriptions I already had, and even that would be difficult to keep up with financially.

A couple of months or so later, one of my prescriptions expired, and the pharmacy informed me, as usual, that they would need to contact the Doctor.

I was completely shocked to be told when I went to pick it up that the Doctor had REFUSED TO REFILL THE PRESCRIPTION, and said I had to come in (and pay cash out-of-pocket) for an office visit to get the prescription renewed!

This man was holding a prescription I had been taking for years "hostage" so that i would come pay for an office visit.  There was no reason, no need, for me to discuss this prescription with him, but he was insisting that I had to pay for an office visit to get it.

    Unbelievable!!

I'm not sure what's going on with this doctor, but I definitely don't recommend going to him.

I strongly recommend them and I'm very impressed. I've been going to them for years and they have greatly improved. They are very computer oriented and they send you emails so that we are in line with them. They reminded me when I needed a monogram so I signed up and within ten minutes I got the appointment. My husband communicates with the doctor by email and its very much user friendly. They are very good in the preventative part of it.
