    Visualeyes Optometry
Dr. Dodge is persistent about getting the best possible outcome - he won't give up until it's right. I came to him after having the same doctor (in another state) for 30 years. Although I have astigmatism, prism, and keratoconus, he was able to give me regular lenses, not special keratoconus (expensive!) lenses. I was still having trouble, so he suggested I see an ophthalmologist, that I had cataracts. I did that, they were more severe than I realized, and had the surgery last year. He helped me with temporary soft lenses while my eyes got themselves ready for surgery. After, he and his wonderful staff have helped me get new contacts and glasses. When one pair of glasses was about 90% good (for driving) he said he wanted to try again; this time they were perfect! He also helped me when my eyes were tearing up. He is excellent. If the address on this page shows Ventura Blvd, that's old. He is on Van Nuys Blvd, at Huston now, in bigger and nicer offices.

During my visit Dr. Dominguez figured out exactly was my problem was and got me set up with glasses. Once they came in and I started wearing them I was so happy. The office even called a couple weeks later to see how the new glasses were working and to make sure I was happy. Amazing customer service and professionalism. I will be back to see them soon to get prescription in my sunglasses!!

    Chung, Dr. Mark A.
Dr. Chung and his staff were very polite and helpful. Dr. Chung completed a full examination and provided me with updated prescriptions. I use hard contact lenses which is getting rare and he was able to work with me on these. He knew what he was doing. It did require multiple fitting to get the right fit but that is normal. He listens to your needs to works with you.

When I went to pick up my glasses, the man, who I guess is the manager, was very helpful. He was very patient when I was trying to pick out my frames. They were just kind of busy when I went to pick up my glasses. The people were pretty busy, trying to answer phone calls and get stuff done. The experience wasn’t perfect but I think it was within the normal range. I think the price was fine, and I don’t think they were overcharging.

Claudia is great. She knows what shape and color looks best, as well as the size and durability of particular glasses. She is familiar with all types of modifications to lenses. If there is a problem, she will work until it is right. She is patient and a good listener. She remembers patients' names. The opticians are specially trained to work with children. I have been getting glasses for 4 members of my family there for the last 15 years. Staff will modify lenses if for some reason the prescription doesn't work. There is a warranty. There are 4 locations. All staff have experience with all kinds of disabilities and are used to "uncooperative" children. All staff are patient and very kind to the kids and their families.

    Paul Gross Eyeglass Repair
This guy is the real thing - what's almost impossible to find these days - a repairman who knows what he's doing, and charges more fair prices. He actually charged only $2.00 to fix the hinges my daughter bent on her glasses. Then he charged $5.00 for a high quality glasses case that would actually protect the glasses from getting bent again (as opposed to the cheap junk that Penney's Optical gave her with the glasses when purchased. I spent $7.00 and I was in and out in 5 minutes. No muss, no fuss. He get's an A from me.

    Goggles4u Eyeglasses
Most important thing to know: I bought a complete pair of very stylish frames with bi-focal progressive (no line) lenses, with anti-scratch and anti-static coatings, for 25% of what the optometrist wanted to charge me for *lenses*!! That is, I got a GREAT pair of glasses for $63, when the lenses - only the *lenses* - at a brick-and-mortar location were going to cost me $250. I found out about in a news article I read about the outrageous markups and huge profit margins on prescription glasses purchased through traditional "brick-and-mortar" stores, including (especially?) from optometrists. 20 days after reading the article I broke my 10-year old glasses. Following the suggestion in the article, I saw an optometrist (that I found on Angie's List!), had my eyes examined, and then got a written prescription from him. Using that prescription I shopped two internet-only eyeglass stores: Goggles4u and Zenni Optical (see separate, equally positive, review of Zenni). They were both ridiculously affordable, but Goggles4u has a "try on" feature that Zenni doesn't: You can upload a picture of your face and then "try on" any or all of the 1,838 frames in their inventory. It was a *huge* help in finding frames that were the most flattering on me. Ordering was easy, I just typed in the information on my prescription. (NOTE: Be sure to get your "pupillary distance" - the distance between each pupil - on your written prescription. You will need this when you order). I also uploaded a scanned copy of my prescription for them to review and to verify that I had input the data correctly. (I had goofed on pupillary distance and they caught my mistake). I also had a few questions about the types of lenses and coatings available, and used both email and live chat to get answers to my questions. Their sales & customer service folks were very responsive, with my email questions being answered within a few hours. Additionally, the frames I really wanted were only available at, but the total purchase price was higher than what I was getting at So I emailed and asked them to justify their higher price. They did, and they also came back with a 30% discount offer on my glasses! It brought them to within $20 of Zenni's price for similar glasses, so I was able to get the eyeglasses I really wanted for even less than their already affordable prices. I've never worn progressive lenses before and these may take some getting used to. In order to compare them to "regular" lenses, I have ordered a 2nd pair of glasses with "distance vision only" lenses from I emailed them asking if I could get another 30% discount for this 2nd pair, and they said yes! So in about 14 days I will have - yet another - complete pair of prescription eyeglasses for a ridiculously affordable price: $30.09 in this case. My last pair of distance vision only glasses, the ones that broke, cost me over $300.00!!! I am still so stunned by these prices that I laugh out loud whenever I talk about them. :-D
