    Overall, the project went very well. The drawings had to be re-done (not Manuela's fault but due to my changes). That added to the overall cost of the project. My contractor needed a lot of hand holding and didn't pay attention to the drawings, so Manuela had to step in and do a lot of project management with him (also added to her costs). I was extremely happy with the outcome and the house looks great! Manuela listened to me, understood my taste, and what my desired outcome should look like. She translated what I wanted, added her ideas and expertise, and really took my 1950s small ranch into the 21st century. The house feels so much bigger due to her thoughtful design. I am so pleased with the transformation! Additionally, Manuela could NOT have been more professional and responsive. As we all know, remodeling is stressful and not everything goes according to plan. Manuela was always calm and collected, even when I was not!

    SOD Builders
    Overall, SOD was outstanding to work with. We bought our house last year (May 2014) and knew right away we wanted to do a remodel to make a master suite. This being our first home and first experience doing a remodel we were a little nervous about the whole process, but SOD made it pretty painless and the outcome is beautiful. We used our own designer for the design of of our remodel, but we have no doubt SOD would have designed something beautiful as well. We bid out our project to 3 contractors total and SOD came in right in the middle (everyone was very close to each other though).  We ultimately decided to go with SOD because we really liked their responsiveness to all our questions during the bidding process and their customer portal they have where you can see pics of your project along the way, do change orders online, and communicate with all their staff very easily. We are busy people who both work full time so we knew we needed a contractor who was going to be really great with communication (email, text, etc.) and SOD 100% delivered on that. We also really liked that they didn't sub out a lot of the work/that they had their own crews for plumbing, electrical, painting, foundation, demo., etc. We saw this really made a difference compared to friends who used contractors who subcontracted a lot of the work out because it allowed us to stay on schedule and not wait for anyone for the next step in the remodel/construction. 
    Our project took about 3- 3/12 months, which was right on schedule and often times we were way ahead of schedule. Eran was our project manager and was fantastic and very helpful along the way. Oren, the owner, is 100% committed to customer service and always wants you to be happy.  Their office staff is also great and much more organized than others we have heard about from friends who have done big construction projects although there were some coordination issues at times, but not a big deal overall.
    Now, this is all not to say that everything went perfectly smoothly. There were hiccups along the way, but they were minor and SOD always listened to our concerns and complaints, addressed them pretty immediately, and worked with us for a solution. We truly believe that with any good contractor you will have problems along the way, but how they respond and how they deal with those problem is the real way to judge a company.  SOD prides itself on customer service and we can attest to the fact that they live up to their word. At the end of the day, they want you to be happy with the work and will work tirelessly to make that happen.
    All of the crews were wonderful, respectful, and the hardest workers we have ever seen. It was not uncommon for them to start their day at 8 am at our house and not leave until 7-8 pm.  They also came on weekends (they always made sure this was OK for us) and they were all a true pleasure to work with.
    In the end, we went just 8-10 K over the bid price due to unforeseen issues that were no fault to SOD or upgrades we decided on later.  
    We are extremely happy with SOD and plan to use them in the future for other remodel projects that we have planned.  We have recommended them to others and would do so in a heartbeat for anyone looking for a great company to work on their house!

    Design Concepts
    Sylvia was very responsive. She was on time. We showed her around the house indicating that in particular we were looking for color suggestions and how to rearrange a particularly difficult room. Unfortunately, she didn't have her portfolio with her because it was with her web designer who was redoing her website at the time. Although she told us many times that she was a whiz with color, she was only able to show us pictures on her phone which isn't the best way to showcase that. She was very hesitant to give any sort of suggestions during the consultation and while I understand that she does not want to give away her services for free, we needed to have some way to see if she was the right fit for us with respect to design, especially since she didn't have her portfolio with her. She did eventually give us one or two ideas and based on those, we decided she wasn't the right fit for us personally based on our own style. She was prompt in sending us references to follow up with, but we never contacted them since we had already made a decision to go with someone else by then. The pricing structure she gave us seemed fair.

    Claire was easy to work with and offered good advice on remodeling the kitchen and bathroom.  She started the drawing while onsite, made all the measurements, and delivered two drawings, plus the original view.  This was exactly what I wanted.    I did not proceed any further because I put my remodeling plan on hold.

    Sylvia is the first interior designer we spoke to regarding our future remodel and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. She came to our house right on time (without a reminder - we had scheduled months in advance, so I was worried she might forget). She was very professional, offered practical insights, and helped come up with creative suggestions to overcome differences in my husband and my styles.We plan to interview a lot of different people before making our decision, but glad Sylvia was our first stop, as she gave us a lot of confidence as we approach our first remodel project.

    Design Concepts
    We found them through Angie?s List and we tried some other companies before we chose Design Concepts. We thought they were the best at the time but we wouldn?t use them again. We were being told one thing in terms of the prices we were being quoted and we learned that wasn?t the case. We like the design but we don?t like the fact that the prices that we were being quoted included kickbacks to the designer. It was in the designer?s best interest to pick the most expensive items. The basic price was fair for the services offered.

    It sold in one week. He was a pleasure to work with, and he let us get involved in the project to cut down on the cost. We were so happy with his staging work that we employed him as an interior designer in our new house in Redwood City. He works with what you have and in addition to his skill as a designer, he has handyman skills so he can install window treatments and light fixtures himself. He clearly loves his work and wants to make his clients happy.

    I would recommend Valentina to anyone. She was wonderful to work with-she listened to our ideas and looked at pictures we liked and then created two designs that were both so great we didn't need to make changes to anything. She has a great talent for listening to her clients and turning their fuzzy, sprawling ideas into concrete, beautiful realities. She was very patient, attentive and responsive, always returning calls promptly and when she would leave a message she would clearly leave the day and time that she called along with the message. I loved that! Along with other examples of her work, such as her design plans, it showed me that she is detailed and precise with ALL aspects of the job; she shows the same level of attention to every step of the project and client relationship. So far we have used one company to complete the work that she referred to us and we are more than happy with her recommendation. She is also very willing to work with contractors that we had already chosen. Valentina takes pride in her work and the love for what she does is very evident. You can trust that Valentina will treat your project with the same level of attention that she would use for her own home. I wish our project was done already so I could post before and after photos but I didn't want to wait that long to get word out about Valentina. Whether you would like an Italian style home, something very modern, or anything else, Valentina has the talent to make her clients dreams a reality(She also does interior design, landscaping, lighting, kitchen and baths, space planning, custom designed furniture, materials selection, staging, restaurant and salon designs).
