General Contracting reviews in Pleasanton

The best. Contractor was always thorough, top-notch quality, perfectionist and very hardworking. For example he solved our shelving issue with more aesthetic and far more effective solution. He also built custom cabinet with extra effort in matching style and color. Completed various tile, faucet and wood repairs all in comprehensive, quick manner. great all around!

We have not met. Al has been sick. If there were a review for pending or scheduled appointments I would have gladly updated my feedback based on that portion but receiving a "Final Notice" email forced me to provide dis-honest feedback on experience we have not had. Al has been professional and responsible through our phone and texting conversations, but that is all we know right now.

We have flooding on the side of the house during heavy rains, and have a trash pump in a buried canister to handle the overflow. Problem is that it pumps through a drainage pipe which is broken under the front lawn, and so water comes up and back into the "pond."  I handled this with another pump to push the water down the hill.  This, of course, was a short term solution.  So, after having the gutters cleaned out, I went looking for someone to handle my drainage problem.
Found CLA Construction on Angie's List.  They had no current reviews, but appeared to be close by and felt "right."   I sent a message through Angie's to the company and owner Chris Anthony called the next day. He arranged to come out to survey the situation, provided an email estimate which seemed fair so I said "go ahead."
Chris and his helper came out as arranged, cleared out all the drainage pipes, breaking through root balls or whatever.  They installed new caps on the drain inlets, and dug down deep, below the sprinkler pipes, to get to the broken drainage pipe under the lawn.  Although their equipment appeared well used to this observer, they had everything needed for the job, including a snake camera set up.
No fuss, no surprises, job well done although we'll have to wait until the rains come to see that everything works.
CLA does general contractor work too so Chris will be on my list for the next project -- dry rot that another contractor offered to "cover over" but which I think needs to be cleaned out with damaged parts replaced.  But what do I know?
So, I can give CLA Construction a very positive rating.

    H.I.P. Renovations-Home Improvement Pros
    |I simplified this project as we went along because I felt the contractor lacked the craftsmanship skills to complete it properly.  In the end the fireplace project was 80% done from my original vision.  It took them way too long to complete this aspect of the project even when I factor in the delays caused by the discovery of water damage.

There was a complication involving this project where water damage was discovered after the wall was demoed.  This required a second project that required the stucco on the outside of my house be removed and new flashing paper installed, and the stucco replaced.  In general this went pretty well.  The stucco team was great but this seemed to be subbed out. The demolition was like most other aspects of the project.  The team seemed ill prepared and did not plan their work well.  I was constantly cleaning up because fragments of stucco were all over my hardwood floors.  They did not have tarps of their own and used old carpets that I had laying around.  They used my brand new Air conditioning unit to support make shift scaffolding to demo the wall.

In the end, I felt I was over charged for materials.  I kept a close eye on what was used then went to homedepot online, padded the quantities to be more than fair and came up with less than half the amount of the materials estimate.  When I asked for receipt to reconcile the difference, I was met with resistance and never provided an full accounting.  By the time it was all over I really just wanted the team gone so I paid the balance.  The biggest plus is that the owner was very responsive but that came with a lot of negatives for me.

It went good. The man who came out was on time and everything went according to plan. It was a very good experience. His price was right in the middle and the quality of his service was very good. He was also very professional.

I would definitely call George again for all of my remodel or general construction work. The estimate was clearly defined and George took the time to explain all the fees and material costs; he offered suggestions to our plans which made better sense than our plans; his pricing was better than most other bids and I felt really comfortable working with George because he took the time to explain the work details including the estimated time from start to finish and his reference list was extensive.
Upon starting the job, George and Brian made great efforts to seal off affected rooms to keep dust and debris to a minimum. What little dust was made they took great care to clean up everyday before leaving for the night. The entire project was done in three and a half days and the finish project was more than we expected. The closet and all the detailed finish work is fantastic and my wife couldn't be happier (which of course is the most important factor). Both George and Brian were easy to work with and they followed every wish list we threw at them. Upon completion of the job they removed all the debris from the yard and made sure the area was clean before leaving.
Job well done and highly recommendable.

Almeida & Son Painting & Construction Inc
Everything from start to finish exceeded my expectations. We met in June and he informed me he was booked for a few months out which was fine.  He created a design for the kitchen and modified it a few times since I made some changes. The quality of cabinets he uses is superb. They are solid wood and are really beautiful and well built.   We waited a few months to get onto his schedule but it was not a problem since I would rather have a large project like this done right rather than fast. Dennis was very communicative throughout the entire process and his partners were nice and did a great job.  They were careful when carrying things into/out of the house not to damage the cherry wood floors and got a tremendous amount done each day.  For anything else for the home, I will always call him since he and his partners are nice, fair, reliable, and do a great job.

We had new energy efficient windows installed and needed to have the exterior trim replaced. John was recommened by the window company and we are very happy that they helped us make the connection. John is very professional, always on time, works hard, completes the job on schedule, cleans up after job is done, and you can't beat his prices. We've used John on three separate occasions and plan on having him back for other projects. John has tons of experience as a building inspector and taught carpentry and home building for thirty-eight years. It's rare these days to find someone with as much experience, energy, and dedication to his craft. I always learn something new about construction each time John is on site. We highly recommend John, he is one of the good guys. Hats off to Stan, also one of the good guys. My neighbors are currently using JR Construction based on what they did for us. Did I mention that John is real easy to work with?

Dean Huber Construction Inc. / Danville Kitchens & Baths
We purchased the $99 coupon advertised on Angie's List and contacted Dean shortly thereafter.  We had many projects on the home we had just purchased and reviewed them with Dean to see what projects he could finish within the time allotted by the deal.  Dean completed a few projects for us, and then provided us with his thoughts and cost estimates for other projects. We ended up hiring Dean to install a light fixture/fan over the washer and dryer in the laundry room.  This project then turned into an idea to install insulation and a built up wood platform in the attic where the light fixture/fan was being installed.  As part of that project, Dean also installed an attic fan, light fixture and folding attic ladder.  Access to the attic was provided through an old fashioned light fixture on the ceiling, that Dean removed and replaced with a door on hinges.  He finished off the new entrance to the attic with wood trim, that finshed off the new ceiling entrance nicely.  By doing this project, Dean allowed us to rid ourselves of a storage unit that we were paying $100 a month to use and move all of the stuff we had in storage into the newly converted attic space. After Dean finished that project, we had him remove and replace three old bathroom windows with new vinyl dual pane windows.  Dean utilized the existing window frame, but retrofitted the frames to accept the new windows. They look fantastic.  Finally, we had a number of slate tiles on our front porch that were lose and damaged.  The original contractor who performed the work used the wrong grout and moisture from rain and sprinklers had caused the tiles to become lose.  Dean spent a lot of time making sure that the new grout/mortar matched the existing material and fixed the entire portion of the porch that was exposed to the elements.  The tiles are now securely affixed and look great.  Dean is still doing some small projects for us, like trying to find some high end cabinet hinges that require replacing and he will offer the best solution for removing and replacing a number of these hinges that are starting to fail. We highly recommend Dean for any project.  He is extremely knowledgeable, very dilligent and truly a perfectionist when it comes to any project.  Whether it is smaller projects like the ones mentioned here or a larger remodeling project, consider hiring Dean to perform the work.  He is simply awesome.

This was my first extensive remodel in a very long time.  Andrew made sure that I was able to sleep in my own bed every night.  He did a great job cleaning up each day.  He explained progress and (a few) setbacks; such as, having to replace dry wall after trying to remove wallpaper & our decision to include subfloor to support tile.  And the final product looks great and I love it--I feel as if I am showering in a spa!!  Thank you, Andrew and crew.
