  • We recently shifted around the rooms in our home that we use as an office, an exercise room and a guest bedroom. As a result, we needed assistance to move the exercise treadmill from an upstairs room to a downstairs room (it was far too big and heavy for my wife and I to move). And it was probably due for maintenance. Found the company on-line; not currently listed on Angie?s List. We were able to make an appointment about 5 days after the call. 

    The owner Paul Rangel and an assistant arrived on time. Both were quite friendly and were very professional. The treadmill was quickly disassembled, moved and reassembled. Paul carefully realigned the rollers and noted that the walking belt was usable, but was about 300 miles past its planned life of 1,000 miles. We agreed that he would order a new belt and call us for a follow up appointment to install it. Paul also provided us with the written installation price and the estimated replacement cost of the belt. Paul and his assistant carefully cleaned their work areas, both in the old exercise room and the new room, leaving both rooms neat and orderly.

    After about ten days, Paul called back and apologized for the delay, but no current manufacturer had a replacement belt, however, a custom belt could be made to order. We agreed to that. Paul also offered a discount on the installation price if we could measure the existing belt and save him the trip. He walked us through the process and it was very clear. We called back the next day with the measurements. 

    About ten days later, Paul called and made an appointment with us to install the new belt. He was on time for the appointment, disassembled the treadmill, installed and realigned the new belt. He also found, drilled out and replaced a broken anchor bolt.

    After cleaning up his work area, he applied the promised discount to the installation price. We were very pleased with the overall result.

  • I've had trainers before, but Danny is very knowledgable and works very well with me.  He's a terrific trainer.  He is always giving tips about not straining yourself, and always makes sure you are comfortable with your workout.  He's also very knowledgable about dieting as well.

  • When joining the gym, part of the reason I chose Curves is because I like to support local business instead of just corporations, I also like the fact that it is woman owned and geared for women that have busy schedules. I originally called and spoke with Windy and set up a time to come view the facilities and talk about membership information. During that conversation she mentioned that there would be no start up fee because they were having a sale and went over some of the payment and membership options. That weekend I went in saw the facility, did a workout to see how the circuits worked, and purchased a membership. When I bought the membership it was with a staff member, not Windy the owner. The staff person told me that there would be a half priced start up fee of around $70, I did not contest this even though I was originally told there was no start up fee because it doesn't typically bother me to support local business by paying higher fees. I also explained to the staff member that there was a 50-50 chance that I would be moving overseas at the end of August and that I did not mind signing up for a year membership so long as there would be no cancellation fee for moving overseas where there was no Curves available. The staff member confirmed that if I brought in the proper documentation that it would be fine since I was moving overseas and there would be no cancellation fee. During the rest of the month in May I used the facilities and enjoyed the workout. Its not the type of place to go if you are looking for lots of fancy equipment, but if you are looking for a 30 minute workout that can be as strenuous or simple as you choose to make it, then this gym is great. I liked it because I did not get bored since you have to move to a new circuit every couple of minutes. After May, I found out that I was going to be moving overseas and unexpectedly spent the majority of June and July in England. I did not bother to cancel my membership at this time because the staff member had told me that I was going to need to show the proper documentation. So I continued to pay the $44 a month with the expectation that I would cancel in August when I was back in Venice to wrap up my affairs. I went into Curves on August 13th to cancel my membership and Windy was there. I brought in my passport that shows both my Indefinite Leave to Remain Visa for England and the fact that I have been in England for both June and July. I explained that I needed to cancel my membership since I was moving overseas, at this point Windy said there would be a $50 cancellation fee. I explained that I had confirmed with the staff member that there would be no fee and she said that it didn't matter what the staff person said because it was in the contract that she was allowed to charge a $50 fee at the stores discretion. She said that since there were Curves internationally, I could not just cancel, instead I would have to transfer my member if Iwanted to not pay the fee. She got on the computer, but was not able to use the tool to look up Curves in England. I have subsequently looked it up and there are no Curves within a reasonable distance from York, the closest is about two hours away. Windy told me that since I could not transfer the membership, I would need to pay the $50 fee. She pulled out the contract that I signed which says that she 'can' (not must) charge a $50 fee. I asked her to call the staff member that sold me the membership to confirm with her that when she sold me the contract she had said that I would not be charged a cancellation fee if I moved overseas. Windy told me that she would not call the staff member and even if the staff member did confirm that information she would still charge me the fee even though I bought the membership with the understanding that I would not be charged. She also said that the staff person could have been confused because their cancellation policy is not 'strict', essentially meaning that depending on Windy's discretion, you may or may not be charged a fee. I told Windy that this was not good business practice because her staff members can tell people anything to get a person to sign up for a membership and then Windy does not feel compelled to honor the agreement. This was confirmed by her saying that even if the staff member did tell me there was no cancellation fee she was still going to charge me one. I got angry because I have been paying for several months worth of this member when I was not in town because I thought I needed to bring in the proper documentation. Had I known I was going to be charged $50, I would have cancelled in June when I left for England and found out for sure I was going to moving. As I was walking out the door I was still muttering to myself about how awful the business practice was and how she should be ashamed for it, when Windy yelled 'What?!' at me and I turned around and said '@@@@ you'. I shouldn't have lost my temper, but it really bothers me that she runs a business in a pretty dishonest way that is meant to try to get as much money out of people regardless of what they are told when they sign up. Now I have been charged for 2 months I was not in the states and will end up paying another $50 in cancellation fees. I really wish this situation would have ended differently because the business seems like it struggling (along with a lot of Curves) and it would have been nice to have just been able to support a local gym.

  • JAM is a fabulous place! Jennifer and her staff of trainers are extremely well educated. There is a good variety of pilates,yoga,fusion and cardio classes. JAM is not cheap, but Jennifer does provide a student discount for the Red Room Classes, and it is worth every penny.

  • This is the best fitness center that I have ever been to-bar none! They have equipment that is to die for. It is high tech and the LED read outs will help your progress. This is not a grunge gym. They are into toning, fitness, and well being. This is a family friendly facility and they are open 7 days a week. They have trainers available and the gym is very clean. I like that you don't have to wait for machines and they have a lot of parking.
