    American Home Renewal Inc
we built a new backyard studio and had top of the line Milgard doors and windows installed by American Home Renewal. From start to finish, the process went smooth, hassle-free, and timely. I'm so glad I chose AHR to do the work and that I followed their recommendation for the best windows/doors available! After the job, my wife insisted that I get the same doors for our main house which I promptly did. Again, the job went flawlessly!

    Custom Exteriors Inc
Initial design was accurately based on my specific requirements by a very knowledgeable and talented sales representative. The product price was reduced by a manufacturer's discount that was passed on to my estimated costs. I obtained five estimates and the others either did not offer the manufacture's discount to me for the same product or offered an inferior solution (for less cost) that did not meet my expectations. Installation was prompt as scheduled, crew was efficient, courteous and kept the area very clean and neat. I couldn't be happier with this project.

Feraru & Associates Building & Design Inc
He was on time, within budget, and very attentive to our needs and the needs of our 90-year-old home in the Oakland hills. All of the jobs bear the mark of Sorin Feraru's wonderful work -- professional, quality, responsive.

Bruce and his team are hard working and professional. They show up at 7:30 each morning and are a pleasure to work with. They did 3 high end bathroom remodels and a large game room area. If ever any problems arise, Bruce always works hard to make things right. We are very happy with the end results! The only "criticism" is as the project winds down, his crew seems to get double booked and they are not as good in the final 5% of the job. You just need to keep on them about the details and they always come through. Overall, excellent job!

We recently moved back into our home after renting it out for a few years. There was a lot of "deferred maintenance" on our 104-year-old home from when we bought it 13 years ago, plus wear and tear from 4 years of tenant occupancy. We had the home inspected by a third party, then prioritized the items in the resulting report and contacted John. We had a tight timeline, as we were moving in just a few weeks from when we first spoke with John and we also had a big housewarming party planned. We put a list of 50 items in front of him and he didn't blink. John was realistic with us about time and costs. It wasn't cheap, but he didn't nickel and dime us on the way either. As we discovered things, we negotiated change orders and he and his crew got them done. Raul, who I think of as the R in J&R, was cheerful and expert with plumbing and wiring. Between the two of them, there wasn't anything that couldn't be handled. They fixed dry rot, water damage, plumbing, electrical, and pest damage. They even resurrected our badly weather-damaged varnished-wood front door. And the doorbell works now too! John was better than punctual. More often than not, he was early to arrive for an appointed meeting time. One other thing to know about John: he's also a residential inspector, so he's very particular about making sure things are done right. That's exactly what we wanted. If you want someone to cut corners, maybe look elsewhere. John does work that's mean to last. He and Raul even thought ahead about potential modifications we might make to the home, and ran the plumbing in a way that would accommodate those future improvements so we won't have to re-pipe then. Like I said: work that's meant to last. We love our "new" house and will be glad to call John for any further work needed.

Robert was the foreman on our remodeling project. He took care of everything and the results exceeded our expectations. The work was completed as planned and on time, apart from our additional requests that came up during the project. Robert was very knowledgable, extremely hardworking, and willing to listen to me/work with me throughout the work, even when this required he think outside the box to accomplish what I wanted. He was happy to give ideas based on his work experience, but not pressure me into taking any of his advice (though I usually did, and completely appreciated hearing it!). He and his subcontractors could not have been more professional, more friendly and polite, and always made sure to clean up their worksite every night. I would hire Robert and his crew again without hesitation, and have already recommended them to friends.

John answered his phone when I called.  He was available to give an estimate the very next day.  He arrived exactly when he said he would, assessed the project quickly, gave an estimate that sounded reasonable, and--when I gave him the go-ahead--came back several hours later with his partner and equipment.  It took a bit longer than he'd indicated, but was in the ballpark.  They were professional, prepared, and polite.  The work looks great, and they cleaned up thoroughly.  I would hire them again.

He arrived and tried to save my money by repairing my old door.  He added a plate around the door knob to cover a hole. However, he didn't cover the hole entirely and it looked bad.  He charged me - I can't remember.  I want to say $180.00?  Then he said, he felt bad that it didn't work.  If I wanted to buy a new door he would pick it up and install it at no charge.
So I purchased a new door from Home Depot, he picked it up, it took him hours to install it, he had to cut it, removed he trim and added shims to make up for the thickness of the door, etc.  He charged me another $525.  Didn't communicate prior to charging me $525 that it would be that much.  He was slow to come back and to do the work the second time too.  I felt like I was dragging him.
He is a nice guy and I thought he seemed extremely trust worthy.  Now I have a great door.  It still needs to be painted.  I still need to search for a great handy man.

    REED BROTHERS SECURITY
I ordered a new Baldwin entry door assembly for ~$240 rom Reeds Bros and had it installed in Feb. We waited a week and paid about $80 more than other retailers on line for the lock. We have no issue with the margin because we thought service was good and worth it. The install was ~$140 more and all went fine. The door handle has since failed and I called today for service. Despite having Reed to our home on a prior occasion and buying this door hardware with them, they cannot look up customers by name, phone or address. You must have the invoice number from the paper the technician leaves behind. So even though the person on the phone confirmed the door assembly is under warranty, they couldn't cover it because they have no records. Even if I wanted to pay for the repair they could only get a technician to my home that is 2 miles from their store in 4 days. Given my front door is nearly inoperable I have to call someone else. Lessons learned - don't rely on these guys for service and no value in buying local. I should have bought the lock on line and saved the $80. Then I could pay for my own warranty work - which you have to do anyway with Reed brothers unless you are good at saving paper invoices for the entire warranty period. What year is this??
