  • Our friend referred us to Bay Easy and we couldn't be more delighted with Ofer and his team. Prior to updating the bathrooms, they looked dark and small. Removing the walls changed the look dramatically, now it looks modern and brighter. We tried to do some of the demolition ourselves but Ofer helped clean up our mess to keep up on schedule. The crew were always punctual, polite and professional. Rebecca the designer helped us through the entire process of picking the right materials to make my bathrooms look bright and chic. Now that we have a new HVAC system, we can beat the Patterson heat which is awesome.

  • I will start with the good, Joe worked everyday until the job was complete, even on Sundays. This particular project was very labor intensive as stone veneer is individually applied to the exterior, like a puzzle. We had approximately over 200 square feet of surface that was to have this stone. Between the intricate rock work, followed by the grout-it was a lot of work. The end product turned out beautiful, and we have had multiple comments from the neighborhood on what a beautiful dramatic change it has made to the house. Joe was very thorough on ensuring that the stone was applied correctly, starting with the moisture paper, to the hardy board, to the finishing caulk between the wainscot and the siding. Also, during the process, it had rained a few of the days-Joe took the additional step and made sure that the stone was completely covered with plastic all around to protect it from the weather. Joe was pleasant and approachable, and was always available by phone.
    Now the negative. When we first drew up an agreement to hire Handyman Construction (Joe's employer), Joe stated there would be at least 3-4 guys with him to do the job. I may have misunderstood if this was the entire time, but needless to say about 60% of it involved only Joe and another worker. This meant the job took almost 3 weeks to complete-which is understandable considering the above mentioned work detail. As a result, we got the feeling from Joe towards the end that this job was more than he bargained for, and the last week, he had already arranged the start of another job. Consequently we felt he wanted to rush the end of it, which was the grouting process. At one point, Joe was questioning whether or not the grouting was something additional to the job, even though he had done a small corner to show us what the end product would look like-which created a great deal of stress for us as we had already spent quite a bit of money on this project (the above amount does not include the materials). Unfortunately, he was the only one that worked on that part (the grouting), as the other worker had another job he had already started on. My husband was concerned because initially there were many areas that had very little-or no grout that was filled in. Basically he was quickly trying to rush it up and finish. In fairness, my husband marked each section and we told him those areas needed to be addressed-and he did. 
    The biggest negative however came from the over purchase of the stone veneer based on Joe's measurements. Joe gave us the measurements, and the list of materials (the stone that is) to buy on our own. He did not tell us initially to buy corners, and he told us we didn't need the wainscot stone (the finishing piece at the top). He just told us to show the sales person the measurements and that is what you buy -which in total was almost 310 sq.ft. We have never done a project like this, so we trusted Joe on the measurements (that is why we hired a contractor-right?). The problem is, Joe did not factor in less the corners, along with the area around the front door being mostly door and window. Granted, you will have material left over with stone veneer as some pieces you cannot use-we understand that. However, a WHOLE pallet of stone veneer was left over-which equates to 110 square feet. Each pallet is $645-which is a lot. You cannot return this material-so we have over a pallet of stone in our garage. When my husband pointed this out to Joe on multiple occasions-Joe kept saying you will have overage due to not being able to use all the stone and that most of it will be used-for us to wait towards the end. When it was very evident that there was a lot left over-he wanted to see the measurements he had written done for us-he insisted they were right. However, when we bought the wainscot-we decided to buy 60 linear feet, versus the 80 he had written down on the paper because we were already concerned with the amount of material that appeared to be left over-and it was almost exactly the amount we needed with only 2 pieces left over. That means the measurements were off. 
    In total the cost of this project with materials and labor was about $7200. (3400-labor and 3800-material). We had anticipated the project costing about $6000-6500.

  • Based on their great reviews on Angie's list, I requested an estimate from Allied Tile for the installation of floor tile in our Kitchen. They were very quick to respond and schedule an estimate. Initially I had planned on getting estimates from several different companies. After I met with Rick from Allied Tile, I was very impressed with his companies experience. I had reached out to several other companies for estimates, but didn't receive any calls back. I was more than happy to go with Allied Tile, the estimate that they gave me was within the price range that I was expecting.

    My husband and I had been shopping around at several stores trying to decide on the tile that we wanted. When I showed Rick a sample of the color we had chosen, he immediately suggested a great Ceramic tile from Bedrosians. The quality and price of the tile was great, so we chose it for our kitchen floor. Allied Tile took it from there. They ordered the tile from Bedrosian's and brought it with them when they came to do the installation.

    The installers took great care to ensure that the area of the house that wasn't being worked on was protected. They were prompt each workday and completed approximately 300 square feet of tear out and tile installation in 3 days. The owners Michael and Rick checked in with me several times over the installation period to ensure that I was happy with the work.

    I will definitely be calling Allied Tile for any future remodels. The definitely deserve the great ratings that they have on Angie's List!
