Earthquake Retrofitting reviews in Pasadena

    Alpha Structural, Inc.
Alpha was professional and efficient in getting our earthquake retrofit done and they knew how to work with the earthquake brace+bolt program smoothly. We were very pleased with their work and would recommend them.

    Avalin Seismic Construction Co Inc
Contractor Fred Cohen communicated the procedures well and was knowledgeable of the California EBB Program; Avalin's contract was comprehensive and clear. Crew was professional, completed the work over two days, and cleaned up each day with little impact. Won't know until the next "shaker" if the job was successful but confident in the integrity of the materials and the installation to give my house added stability.

    White Knight Home Services
They were great and super professional.

They did for us an energy audit and all the necessary paperwork for rebates and credits.

Great company and great workmanship and fast, they completed the whole project in 5 weeks.

    SEISMIC SAFETY
Everyone was nice, responsive and professional, from Bella, the Assistant, to Walter, our inspector, to the crew who did the work. Bella and Walter always answered our questions in a timely manner and we never felt bad for asking, which is not the case with all providers. The crew was very punctual, asked questions, addressed our concerns. I appreciate that they showed me the plate's footprint in the basement and didn't start drilling wherever before being sure we were fine with them in the staircase.
    Very smooth process!

    Greg Sylvis General Contractor Inc
Greg arrived on time and was very professional. He examined our basement and crawl space, checked around perimeter of the house and also checked out the cracks in our walls. In the end, he said our (flooding and walls cracking) problem was not a foundation issue, but a issue with landscape drainage and the earth moving. I thought he was very honest and I valued his opinion.

    Greg Sylvis General Contractor Inc
I found Greg on the state earthquaqebolt web site.
He gave me a simple and uncomplicated estimate. 10% down, and the remaining cost paid after inspection.
Later, I asked him if he could do the work sooner than we had agreed upon. No problem. A Few days later he came out early and finished the work in a day.
He is the first contractor I've seen that cleans after himself. When he left my house, I could not tell that there was a contractor that had done any work that day.
Greg is knowledgeable and honest, and did I mention that he is a contractor? You get my point.
Here is to nice guys like Greg, "I hope you're business thrives, and someday I'll see you on the SG mountain trails" He likes to hike...

    Anchorstrong Construction, Inc.
Everything went really smoothly. The work performed was in excess of code and in excess of what we agreed upon. I was very happy about that. His crew was on time every day and they cleaned up nicely after the job was done. The job passed inspection, which is the most important thing. Zach did not require any deposit and payment was contingent on passing inspection. That says a lot about his faith in the work his company performs. I would definitely recommend Anchor Strong for seismic retrofit work.

    The Foundation Works
I feel like this company tried to use scare tactics on me. I was delivered 'good news and bad news' by their inspector, Keith. The good news was the cost of the retrofit- exactly in the price range I expected. The bad news was that the retrofit would not pass inspection without a costly repair to the portion of my foundation that is masonry. When I asked later about modifying the extent of the repair in order to get it to something more affordable so that I could get the desired retrofit done, I was told we could forget the repair all together, but the cost of the retrofit then increased almost 25%. This left me with a really bad taste in my mouth.
On the positive side, I contacted the company and the owner called me back the same day. We spoke on the phone, and naturally, he defended his company and attributed it to a misunderstanding of the terms they were offering. But, I was there and my perspective was quite different.
This experience was a disappointing one, as I have been dreaming about getting a seismic retrofit done on my house for a long time, and of all the companies on Angie's List, The Foundation Works was at the top of my list because of all their rave reviews and the reasonable prices. I ended up getting a bid from another company and going with them. The price for the retrofit was almost exactly the same and I was assured that although I need the masonry repaired, it was not necessary for passing inspection on the retrofit. This was correct, as I had the work done and the inspector signed off without the repair.

    Weinstein Construction Corp
Mr. Weinstein, his salesman Ed and the crew were AMAZING. Mr. Weinstein was there from start to finish, he pulled the necessary permits, his crew were so concerned about my feelings. They were clean, quick and truly WONDERFUL. I highly recommend them. Mr. Weinstein met the city inspector, he signed off on the retrofitting right then and there, it was a painless experience. I can't recommend them highly enough and I thought their pricing was perfectly fair.

    White Castle Construction
Appointment set for March 19, 2013 for 9:00
Initially I had asked for a courtesy call to let me know he was on his way. He stated that he is an engineer and that if he says he is going to be there at certain time he will be there at that time
Well I waited for more than 2 hrs this morning. I get a call around 4p that his workers are in area. I tell him that I not available.
He then verifies my address and somehow he has a different address
He then states that his workers were at the different address and couldn't get in.
    He then states and quot; You gave me the wrong address and I just don't want to do business with youand quot;
No apology for wasting my morning waiting and checking for his workers arrival.
Well in this day of cell phones, I guess and quot;engineersand quot; can't make a simple phone call. If his workers were at wrong address in the morning, why he didn't call? ( The address he gave me was my next door neighbor's which I can see from my office window where I was waiting for him). Why would I give him the wrong address? I have lived at this address for 20+ years.
Its obvious that with the recent earthquake, he was busy and doing business with me wasn't convenient.
I guess he can take his ball and go play somewhere else.
    Disrespectful and unprofessional
