    Sequoia Hospital
I arrived at the hospital emergency room and was looked at immediately. I had many tests and since it was Christmas Eve and I was expecting many guests for dinner the staff was very helpful in getting things done quickly. The staff and doctors were wonderful.

The doctor did a great job, they used stitches instead of staples and I elected to have him use a robot for the mesh. They initially billed my insurance 90000.00 for my hernia surgery, my insurance came back at 45000.00 and the hospital came back at 56000.00. I'm still waiting on a final total.

You can tell I am quite satisfied with them because I have used them for so long. I like them because they seem very competent and very attuned to what the patient wants. They will consult with other doctors within and outside the clinic if necessary.

They take care of you from the get go and were top notch. When I checked in, they had a computer glitch so it took longer than expected. It wasn't their fault and I would give them an A for the way they handled it. They treated me with great customer service. I asked if I could have a private room and they said they would request it for me. Low and behold, I got a private room. If I moved to a different state, I would fly in to use their services.

Fine... I went in to the E,N,T. department. The doctor decided that he could see the vane that was probably at fault, frequent noise bleeds, and used a chemical to close the vane. He estimated that it was the best way to do it and would probably work 90% of the time. It did...

As primary caregivers for our friend who was waiting for a liver transplant, we accompanied him to Stanford and interacted with staff on an hourly basis once our friend was admitted.Although our friend died while waiting for his transplant, we do not consider Stanford anything BUT a wonderful hospital with caring, competent staff and doctors. Their concern for the patient and his/her family and support system is A+.At no time did we feel that our friend was not receiving the best care available. It was heart breaking to lose him but even his passing was handled with amazing compassion.I highly recommend anyone in need of a transplant of any kind to check into Stanford. California is the worst place in the country for a person needing a liver because we have a high demand for livers and a low supply of healthy donor livers. If you are able to get to Florida for a liver transplant (insurance coverage) I recommend trying that. I think Tennessee or Kentucky are also good states for liver transplants.
Notice: If you are taking Protonix (it may be given to you in IV form without your knowledge when you are in the hospital) you will fail your urine test for marijuana use. This will cost you. It is probably what cost our friend his life. He did not know why he was failing his urine test for THC and he was not allowed to be put on the liver transplant list until he had a clean urine test for a certain length of time. It was purely by accident that we discovered where the contamination was coming from and he was finally, several months too late, allowed to go on the list for a transplant. By then it was too late for him.

My overall experience with them has been excellent. They are just nice. They are the major hospital on the West Coast. They are probably one of the finest hospitals in the world and I believe they are rated in the top 10.

It's the best hospital around and it's close by. But they don't seem to be teaching the students about bedside manners. They have the best cafeteria though. It's connected with Stanford University. I tore my meniscus ligament and needed surgery. My anesthesiologist was very nice and he was so funny. I was in that hospital for two months after my surgery; one month in ICU, and the next in a regular room. I had two transfusions there, one while I was in the ICU. The food there was really good. I don't' know how they keep track of everyone's orders, because the hospital is so huge. The person that delivers the food wears a tuxedo, and the tray has a rose in a glass vase.

I go there for everything. They are really good. They have a lot of doctors on site. It is a new facility. So, the office is very good. They are 10-15 minutes behind schedule if they are really busy. I will continue to use them in the future.
