Fireplace Repair reviews in Palo Alto

  • After reading many reviews and checking out several fireplace stores I chose Penguin. I liked the emphasis on customer service, the fact that it is family-run, and that they feature Mendota gas inserts which are beautiful and offer many options. Ephrain is a delight to work with. He came to measure the fireplace, discuss the job and gave it careful thought. Gladys then gave me much additional information as I thought through the options, and Eric helped me select the traditional full insert when I came into the showroom. I especially appreciated Penguin’s dedication to customer service when I changed my mind about Penguin doing the tile work at the last minute. This was very inconvenient for them but they were gracious and made sure the new tile installers had all the information they needed to do a great job. And Ephrain came back to install the doors after the tile work was done, taking extra care that they were hung correctly and taking extra time to show me the details of the remote control I admire the approach Penguin Fireplace takes and I am thrilled with my new fireplace. It makes a big difference when the people running an operation have great values. I highly recommend Penguin Fireplace.

  • We first met their team when a salesman cold-called us. It took us a while to make a decision about what we wanted to do, but once my wife and I decided to move forward, working with Shmuel and his team was excellent. I can't say enough good about them. They promised to get the job done in six weeks, in time for an important family gathering we had planned. We were skeptical, but bet on them, and they came through. In any project of this size, there will be unforeseen issues that come up. In all of those cases, Shmuel was excellent to work with. Some examples are: - Once we saw the lighting in the new kitchen, we wanted an extra light over the sink. He tore-up some of his work and added it and charged us for the hardware only. - We wanted a cabinet added by our front door and another by our laundry room. He added it to the work without question, and charged only for the hardware. - We decided we wanted to replace the stair railing. He helped us find bids from railing experts, and charged us the bid without any contractor markup. The extra work disrupted his planned work schedule, but he worked around it to make sure we were still done on time. - The vent over the kitchen range appeared too low to us, even though it was within code. He replaced and installed the cabinet with something smaller. No charge. - With all the demolition, he accidentally lost our Nest thermostat. When this was realized, without any questions or me having to ask, he apologized and picked-up a new one, at his cost. Some other examples of the excellent service: - Shmuel and Shalhevet helped us pick paint colors and pick kitchen appliances and cabinet styles, traveling to a number of stores with us. My understanding is that most contractors would just tell you to pick something and leave you to figure out the details. - They allowed us to live in our home during construction. At the end of each day, they spent time blocking-off areas and moving equipment (as required by code) to make the site safe for our children. He could have easily just insisted we spend a month in a hotel. - All the little things. For example, we never discussed replacing the flooring HVAC vent covers; he bought beautiful new ones that matched the wood floors we chose. We never discussed replacing outlet faces, but he felt it wasn't right to repaint and leave the old worn outlet faces. They are highly recommended!

  • Our home has 3 gas fireplaces throughout the house, two in the main house, and one in the guest house in our backyard.? When we decided to convert the fireplaces to electric ones, we decided we?d update the design as well and install marble mantels.? This was not a small job and so we called four companies and asked for quotes.? Goodfellas gave us the best price and even threw in a few extra perks when everything was said and done.? They were professional and delivered what they promised.? I would recommend working with them.

  • I want to dedicate my following review to the owner/owners of this company - thank you for creating an amazing team who knows how to work correctly and so professional! Your team comes every morning and waiting for them a pot of coffee and cookies prepared especially by my wife! They do not stop working once they get to my house until the moment they leave. I really enjoy working with them (I insisted on dealing with some carpentry work) - they know exactly what they are doing. Very surprising to see a construction company that employs its workers and Not subcontractors. The house we're working on right now is kind of a vacation house to our guests from abroad, but most likely I'll take advantage of the fact that the house was now getting very impressive and maybe even will rent it for a long time. I'll try to upload pictures below to give you an idea about their work!

  • These guys are the ultimate in customer service. I've called no less than 17 companies to fix my gas fireplace insert.
    Two companies made me wait weeks for an appointment, but couldn't fix it. One showed up, diagnosed something that I needed to follow-up on with the manufacturer or it would cost me $1500. Others didn't answer the phone, which is fine, but it was annoying that I sometimes waited a full day before getting a return call.
    These guys answered the phone and asked questions no one else asked. And when I asked for a repair as soon as possible they told me and quot;of course, if we can't get one of our full-time guys there within 24 hours we will find someone who can be there for you.and quot;
    And they did just that. Later I received a call back, set an appointment, and fixed my fireplace. Turned out it was about 3 different things. Nice work guys. And thank you so much for your quick repair.

  • I wish the rest of the remodel had been as easy as the fireplace!  They were great about contacting me to set appointments and reliable about showing up when they said they would.  The work was done quickly and professionally.  During the shopping process they were helpful and knowledgeable but never pushy the way another shop was.  I would highly recommend Penguin Fireplaces!

  • Each of the custom marble and granite pieces were made perfectly, as ordered.  The installations were done smoothly and professionally despite the difficulty involved in 2 of the pieces (needing 6 men to move the pieces).  They guarantee the work and have been wonderful about returning to take care of little problems that have come up.

  • My first visit to the showroom went well, but on the second visit it was hard to find anyone to take the time to answer my questions. The person who came to the house to give me an estimate and take the measurements was prompt and polite. After I ordered I didn't get a confirmation of exactly what I had ordered. The installer(s) turned up when they said they would. One was training and he was polite and helpful. The lead installer was a bit rude. Half way through he discovered that one of the pieces was missing and he also couldn't get the remote to work. So I had to call Energy House to tell them what had happened. No one answers their phone and unless you know exactly who to leave a message for, how to spell their name, what their extension is, the experience is frustrating. Energy House then sent down an experienced installer. He was professional and extremely polite. He quickly got the remote working, double checked all the measurements for the missing piece, and returned a few days later to complete the installation. I am very pleased with the final product. However, this took four visits. Overall I would have to rank the experience as a C, although the second installer definitely deserved an A+. The final price was about $400 less than I thought it was going to be, which was a nice surprise.

  • He came out at a very difficult time of the year to to install the gas fireplace. It was right before Christmas day and he came out at very short notice. I got three bids and his was the lowest. He did the work promptly at a very good price. I was pleased with the price. It was a semi-major plumbing job, and he did a really nice job and did it quickly. The plumbing fittings were neat and perfectly done. He spent a solid day doing the work, and I could not have asked for more. He did quality work and also cleaned up after himself. He was very responsible. He had to be fairly clever in doing this work. I checked him out and found that he had a good Better Business Bureau record. Most of the work that he does involves copper plumbing. He proved to be a very good plumber for me. I'll be using him again for a job that's coming up.
