Shawn is a top-notch psychologist. I feel completely safe and cared-for the moment I walk into the room, and I know from experience that's not always easy to come by, especially (for me) with male therapists. He listens deeply and intently, and offers a nice balance of empathy and inquiry, gently steering me toward my growing edges, my core stuff. I feel like no emotion I could throw out there would be too much for him. He'll still be sitting there, steady and curious and compassionate. I love how he weaves meditation and body awareness tools into the work. He's also got a great sense of humor--crucial in a therapist, in my opinion! I trust Shawn with my soul, and feel like I'm in such a better place since I've let him see and know me.

Though I initiated the therapeutic relationship, we have found that as different areas were probed, I put up walls of resistance. Lila's talent is through patience, sensitivity, and resourcefulness; she helps the client realize what they're doing and they can let down those walls in the safety of the therapeutic environment. Therefore, that's what's been happening for me. I've been able to lower the walls enough that I have been able to identify the issues, fears, outdated coping strategies that were holding me back. When I came to her my yes, my no, and my maybe had little relationship to what I wanted, what I needed, and what I was going to do or not do. That's been straightened out since seeing her, and now I have greater confidence and self-esteem gained from meaningful achievements I've been able to realize in my life outside of therapy because of the work we've done. Lila and I are now working into the remaining core issues that I've been resisting. Since, seeing Lila my life has changed sometimes despite my best efforts to resist change. I have recently gotten a new position at work, have good relationships with my colleagues, and am venturing out of my comfort zone. I'm looking forward to what we will accomplish as we go deeper into my remaining core issues.

    Bott, Dr. Allen D.
I waited 1 hour in a run down waiting room and talked to another patient who was waiting.  When the doctor saw  me, the first thing he said was that the patient before me said I talked too much and that I was obviously high.  Since when dose  a patient diagnose  another patient in the waiting room and then the doctor agrees and tell me so.
Any way. I listened as he prescribed weird drugs and then some  that were in the experimental stage.  He complained that my case was difficult.  When I left I sent the notes of my visit and the drugs to my last Psychiatrist.  He said to forget him and stay on the drugs are working for me now.  I haven't been able to find another Psychiatrist that will take medicare. I'm even will to pay cash.So I see a PhD psychologist  monitor me but does not prescribe drugs.

    Morton, Dr. Susan B.
I was pleased with Susan Morton's professional, gentle, informed, caring approach to my problems from the first session to our last session.  She was always available outside of office hours by phone as well.

He is brilliant in terms of psychopharmacology. He understands brain chemistry. He is incredibly reputable and is one of the leaders in his field. He is a little quirky but is brilliant. He is always late. There are two people who comprise his staff. They are very good and responsive, and do a good job. The office is a little crowded just because the space is small and not because there are too many people, but it is fine. I would recommend him.

    John Friedberg MD
My husband is dealing with Alzheimer's and Dr. Friedberg is very good. He uses a little do to help. He is very kind and friendly. It is so upsetting having to go through this process, but he makes me feel very comfortable and he lowers my anxiety. The office staff is very good.

    Kaiser Oakland Medical Center
The counselor described the condition and its implications and offered to meet with other family members who may need to consider testing. Was very knowledgeable and caring, listened to our concerns and answered all of our questions.

I was referred to him by my regular doctor and the experience was very good. It was easy to get an appointment; I got it pretty quickly. I will use him again in the future.
