Solar Panel Installation reviews in Novato

I attended a high pressure sales presentation at my son's house.  The company was asked to simply update a previous quote for a roofing job.  Instead, a sales person showed up just before dinner and had to be asked to leave twice after launching into a long-winded spiel about the quality of the company and its products.  The spiel was after a re-measuring of the roof.  The presentation included  the sales tactic of "if you sign now, you get this special reduced price!"  Even that price was over the top.
As a retired construction professional myself, I got the distinct impression that this guy did not know what he was talking about and was just looking for a fat commission.
Bottom line: this company apparently tries to be an all-around remodeling company.  Basically hiring subs to do the work while they collect money as the middle men.  Especially in this situation, it would be better to deal with recommended roofers.  I would not use this company for anything!

We solicited bids from 3 different SunPower elite dealers in our area and Luminalt's proposal and response to our questions and concerns was thorough and prompt, with followup with their engineers to answer some of our technical questions. We purchased a 4.25 kW system with 13 E20 panels on the south and west faces of our roof. We have a concrete tile 'designer' roof with lots of angles and smaller surfaces for panel placement. We were concerned about how the system would be mounted on the tile roof and the number of roof penetrations. Unlike the other 2 bidders, Luminalt proposed mounting the system using TileHooks and gave us a reference to contact who had done a similar installation who gave Luminalt exceptional kudos, as did a 2nd reference we spoke with.
EVERYONE we dealt with at Luminalt was extremely knowledgeable, professional, friendly and well-coordinated amongst the various people we worked with. Our system was designed, permitted and installed in about 5 weeks, and inspected by PGand E and the system turned on about 2 weeks later. This included setting up a SunPower SolarNow Same-As-Cash loan for the amount of our tax credit, getting our HOA approval, and addressing some minor permitting issues. Their installers also managed to install our system in over 100 degree weather, but stayed safe, sane and hydrated. Luminalt's bid was slightly more than the next best proposal, but the company's commitment to the local community, the fact that it's a woman-owned business, the references with spoke with, and the thought that went into their proposal put them at the top of our list!

They were very respectful and professional. Just fabulous! They came and measured, ordered the panels for us, and promptly came and put them up. They look wonderful. The interaction was seamless and amazing!

They were great. I am really satisfied. Their service was good. It did take a little time, but it was because everything was being coordinated with the roofers. Once it was installed, it was great. When the system was turned on, I started seeing immediate results lowering my energy bill. The difference in my energy bill makes up the cost of the panels.

They did a great job with the installation, but a week later it started leaking. A year later is was leaking like crazy from 3 different places. When they came out they tried to charge me for things I had fixed myself. They did replace it and they charged me for it. There were also wiring problems but I'm an electrician so I fixed it myself. I told them about it so when they came out the guy didn't do anything and then charged me for it anyway. I called the company to tell them I fixed it myself and asked why he was charging me for it. They apologized and said they'd take it off the bill, but that's pretty unethical. They charge in 15 minute increments, the first 15 minutes is $75. They tried to charge me $175 but we negotiated. I have to trust him that they are doing an honest job, I had someone working up on the roof who let me know it was leaking. I think they need to be straight forward about the warranty. They told me I had a 5 year warranty, but I didn't read the fine print and apparently it's not on the work. I have to call and ask them what the warranty is on. If you call them out it takes them 2 weeks to get out here.

They are the oldest outlet in Miami and are local and I hope they are still around. They will pick up the phone wherever they are. We talked to a number of solar companies and we were extremely very wonderfully impressed with this company. They did the work themselves and knew what they were talking about. We asked them to come out and take a look and they did and measured and told exactly where the panels should go, how many we needed. They did not try to over sell and did the best job they could and when they were hammering they had someone up in the attic to make sure that the nails were going in the right place. They had this instrument, so they could tell where the three shadows would fall during parts of the year. They strongly recommenced staying on the grid because you have to sink a whole lot of batteries in the ground and then the batteries get old. They came out fairly soon after we called them and a few years ago when one of the inverters quit working, they were right on it. They did what was necessary and also at no extra cost advised us about a hot water installer which was already on the roof and gave us some panels lying around in their preparation yard. We spoke to them over the phone when one of the inverters went out. They also put in a smart meter and we are actually putting back electricity back into the system. We have been educated by them a lot and no matter what they do is tip top.

The solar heating company messed up the wiring. The guy who came out didn't do the job on the controls very well. He didn't screw down the terminals properly so they shorted out and fried my timer. The overall experience was fine. The price was very good.
