    H.A.R. (Hi Tech Appliance Repair)
I called his phone, and he showed up within several hours.  He was very kind, clean, put a cloth down on the floor, had the part he assumed was the one broken from my description of the machine failure, and repaired it really quickly.  Brought a part that was better (made of metal) than the manufacturer's part (made of plastic).  Told me the failure of the part was not my fault - that they always broke at a certain point.  And he checked other parts of the machine.  Excellent service.  I'd always call him first for any appliance repair.  Highly recommended.

I phoned on Sunday the 11th and left a message on the service phone.  Gary called me first thing this morning (just after 8 am).
I explained that my fridge had stopped cooling but the freezer still worked.  I mentioned that it was now at room temperature following  a steady decline over 2 days time.  He said he could make me his first call of the day-WOW!  I g
ave him the address and directions. He said he should be here in about half an hour.  Ack!  this gave me only a few minutes to pull the fridge out so he could get to it and clean up behind it.  In my rush I broke a bottle of wine behind it, and was just getting the wet-vac when he arrived.  I quickly cleaned up and put down a towel so he would not smell like wine all day-a little embarrassed to make him wait.  I explained the prior problem two years hence and left him to work.  Within 10 minutes he had ruled a recurrence out and
determined that it was just frozen up--I had the freezer control too high and ice formed around the fan...doh!!  He then removed the inner freezer panel and manually de-iced the works ( after helping me to empty the contents into a cooler); reassembled it, and was done in less than half an hour.
He was very kind and showed me how to set the freezer and fridge controls to avoid a repeat performance- and told me what to do if the initial symptom of fan noise started again.  Apparently it was hitting ice and not having bearing issues as I had thought.  Well, I was a little embarrassed but very happy to have a working fridge again-it began to cool right away.
Gary then floored me by saying that since he did not do an actual repair (mechanical), that he would only charge the fee he quoted for the service call ($55).  He even took a check!!  I insisted on a small tip-since it sure seemed like a repair to me-which he accepted graciously.  He was out the door at 9:15 am.  Time elapsed from returning my call at 8 am till he left my  front hour and 15 minutes!!!!  Another amazing Angies List provider!!

He did a very good job with this project. He was priced at a very competitive rate. He was able to discover a second problem and ordered the part right away. He did not charge me for the second repair.

    Scott The Fix It Guy
My Magic Chef apartment-sized top-freezer refrigerator had stopped cooling the refrigerator, but the freezer was functioning normally. I had purchased it about 6 months ago from a photo studio where it was used only to store film for the year since it's purchase from Home Depot; so it was pristeen and had worked beautifully up till now. I did some web research and opened the coil compartment to try to determine the problem, narrowing it down to one of three possible problems. I de-iced the coil to provide a temporary fix which should last week or more, then looked on Angie's list for a repairman. A search of appliance repairs near my location gave me two results with "A" ratings, recent exceptional reviews, and reasonable pricing. I chose Scott because I like to support individuals and small local business whenever possible. I phoned him Thursday May 20th in the morning and left a message with a detailed description of the problem and my contact information. He called me back at 6pm that evening and we discussed the situation. He was not bothered at all by my research and diagnostic attempts, in fact he complemented my resourcefullness and said I had done all the right things to get the fridge working again for the short term. He asked if, since the repair wwas no longer an emergency, I would mind waiting a few days as he was leaving friday on a trip and would return on Tuesday the 25th. I told him that this was fine and asked him to call me when he returned to arrange a time to fix the fridge. He called me Monday evening and we agreed on Wednesday morning at ten. He phoned tuesday to get the model number so he could get parts, but since I was at work I had to phone him later that evening with the model info. He asked to change the repair date to Thursday at ten due to difficulty obtaining parts for my model early in the morning. Since I caused the delay in getting him the model number, this was fine as it would avoid a second visit charge too as a bonus. Scott arrived a little early, just as I was emptying the freezer into a cooler so he could access the works. After asking if he needed anything, I went back out to my shop to get out of his way. When I checked in about an hour later, he was de-icing the coils for a final test. He showed me the unit he had replaced, the defrost timer, and also how to adjust it if the advance was a problem in the future. A few minutes later he was finished and had cleaned up and restarted the fridge. He presented me with a handwritten invoice for $110: $75 for the service call (exactly what he had quoted even though it took a little over an hour) and $35 for parts. He also recommended that I keep the load at 3/4 full in the freezer and the controls at a medium setting to maximize the performance and lifespan of the fridge. He was happy to accept a check on a local bank for payment. Scott was great and I would definitely use his services again and recommend him highly.
