Window Replacement reviews in North Hollywood

Real People ~ Real Reviews ~ Real Results

  • I hate giving bad reviews, but I felt I should. I hired Magic Hammer aka LA Best Builder (which is just one contractor – Sean) to replace my crumbling asphalt driveway and patio with cement, to upgrade my electrical system, to put up a ready-made gazebo and to renovate my garage (no bathroom/kitchen, just a basic renovation of the existing structure into a playroom). Issues: 1) Lack of communication – I kept having to ask what to expect, when the workmen would be at my house, the status of various parts of the job – sometimes I’d get a response, sometimes I wouldn’t, 2) His guys would show up sporadically and sometimes took a full week or more off, 3) Sean wasn’t on-site or reachable for some major cement work that was going awry. It was a Saturday (Shabbat), and I respect that he is observant, but he should not have had that work done when he couldn’t oversee it or be reached. He also made excuses for the things that went wrong and tried to push it back on me (he was trying to “save me money”). He ultimately fixed one issue months later after much arguing and much pressing. It will be interesting to see if my patio floods during a heavy rain. Also, his cement guys pushed through my side fence and broke it open – my neighbor saw them do it. Sean said the fence was in poor shape anyway and would eventually have had to be replaced (yes, EVENTUALLY, but it wasn’t a priority). He never acknowledged that his guys did this (again, he wasn’t even on-site when they were there). I had to have someone else come in to replace the fence and Sean did nothing to cover any of the cost. 3) I requested side windows on the garage and he told me he could put in 18” “custom” ones, but I wanted bigger ones which he said he couldn’t do (why would “custom” windows only come in one size?). I looked online myself and saw that Lowes had 30” and 36” casement windows and asked what the biggest size was that would fit in that area. He said 36” so I said I wanted to go with those (it was confirmed in a text AND he built the spaces for the 36” windows). Three weeks later, 30” windows arrived and he blamed me for the error and tried to get me to take those, saying it wasn’t much of a difference. I said I’d rather wait and have him order the 36” windows. He got upset and said he’d lose money. Since they were from Lowes, I assured him they could be returned (and they were). It was going to take another 3 weeks for the 36” to arrive, and I told him I didn’t want the rest of the job to stall – there were several things that could be completed within that time and the job was already taking forever. He said they couldn’t continue with the other things because “it would create dust.” I told him that it seemed that he could put up plastic to alleviate that problem, plus there were several things that needed to get done outside. The job was delayed and delayed. I had to push and push for things to get done. 4) I told him I wanted a digital keypad for the garage door but that the one I saw at Home Depot wouldn’t fit. He said he had one in mind, but then realized last minute that it wouldn’t fit and gave up. I looked online myself and easily found a few that would work and ordered one. He simply wasn’t solution-oriented. 5) His men re-hung my gate improperly after the cement work was completed and I asked him continuously to have them rehang it. I even went and bought the hinges myself (different kinds that his men could choose from). He made a big issue that it would be a lot more work, but after more cajoling, he finally had his guys do it. 6) I was going to have cabinets from Ikea installed along the back of the garage. His guys were supposed to pick them up at the store, bring them to my home and install them (this was all in the contract). Long story short, the job was taking so long that I ordered them online and had them delivered (at an extra cost). He had his guys install them and ended up charging me $800 to install cabinets that Ikea would’ve installed for $450. By that time it was too late for me to halt this as they had already installed the cabinets. Sean made up some excuse saying that there were more cabinets than planned and it was a lot of extra work. This was completely untrue. I emailed him the original documentation and contract showing 2 units which had 6 cabinets each. I ended up buying 2 units of 4 cabinets each – less cabinets than we discussed. In the end, it was a terrible and stressful experience working with Sean. He was full of excuses, rude, argumentative and I now realize that he was overpriced. I’m disgusted by the entire experience. It’s hard to believe it all went so smoothly and pleasantly for all these other reviewers.

  • Carl's professionalism and work quality were A+ from start to finished. Reliability: He scheduled a time for the work, called to confirm, and showed up exactly on time. He re-evaluated the work to be done, and we agreed on a price with a handshake. My windows, screens, and walkway had not been thoroughly cleaned for thirty years! Carl spent two and a half hours taking care of every detail, inside and out. He asked pertinent questions, and offered additional services when appropriate. He was respectful and polite. And most of all, my home looks brighter and more beautiful because of his workmanship. Not only WOULD I hire him again -- I have gone ahead and scheduled an appointment for additional masonry cleaning. I am VERY pleased with his work!

  • Incredible. On budget and under time. Professional work done impeccably and the contractor was very responsive. From beginning to end (and even now, after it's completed) if we had any problem or concern or question, he answered within 24 hours. He is also very calm and even handed so there was never any stress. Everything could be handled. He hires great people who are meticulous.

  • Excel Construction sent to our house Eyal who came over and set with us for a while in order to understand what we would like to have in the remodeling project at our house. Our remodeling project was to remodel the kitchen, family & Dining room areas including new coat of paint and few other tasks. After he understood what we wanted to do, he designed a simple draft so we will understand how and where he think to relocate some parts of the kitchen and after we approved it, he then went back to his office and designed a detailed computerized 3D. After the design and the price was approved by us, he then came over with his workers to do the remodeling job. Each one of the workers was polite & flexible. After the work was completely finished, Eyal sent back his workers to replace or fix some things that we had issues with. Our house was left clean during the entire remodeling. We received so many of great comments on our new remodeling and on our house in general. Thank you Eyal for the great work you did for us and for the awesome service!

  • I want to share how pleased we are with the recent remodeling job by Treeium. We got several bids first, then selected them to remodel our newly purchased home in NoHo. They completed the following: Six windows replaced, Total bathroom gut and remodel. Demolition of a stone fireplace with new drywall and texturing to replace it. Painting of entire interior of the home. Removal and replacement of kitchen tile. We are thrilled with the craftsmanship of their work. Eli was very responsive as our lead contractor and was aware of our crazy time constraints, as we had to be in our new house in only 3 weeks. We would definitely use Treeium again. :)

  • Scott really saved the day! I rolled my left rear window down by accident and it failed to roll back up. I called Scott and he encouraged me to do the least expensive repair that would suit my needs. He could fix the window, so it just stayed up permanently or he would need to order a part and he could make the window roll up and down again. I told him I’d like the window to roll up and down again. He said he would come out right away and get the window up for me while waiting for the part to arrive. Then, he would come out the next day and finish the repair. He did NOT charge any extra to come out twice. Scott came out lightning-FAST. He was in my driveway about half an hour after I called him. He had the window up and secured very quickly, so no rain could get in my car and cats or other animals wouldn’t crawl in overnight. He returned the next day exactly when he said he would. He fixed the window, so it rolls up and down again, just as it should. He did not charge extra to come out twice. He was FAST, efficient, and effective in the repair. I would absolutely call him again.

  • We recently worked with Classic Remodeling to do some work in our Kitchen and everything turned out great. We found out about them through a friend who had also got some work done. Working with this company was very smooth, they are a very experienced group of people who really value their customers and will do anything to keep them happy. They were able to work within our budget and provide us with quality materials and quality work. Also adjusting their schedules to ours worked out great in our favor as we often are in and out from our other home up in Canada. We are confidant in our selection and the work is a true testament to why.

  • Excellent. Difficult job handled in four days with a crew of 2-3 very quickly, carefully, quietly, respectfully. And great job painting. Real pros. Even repaired fascia and eve joists that had dry-rot damage. Crew took pains to ensure that dust and debris from sanding and prep work did not get into the house and also contained and removed it all from exterior spaces, no doubt in case it contains lead from older paint layers. Very accurate painting using high quality paint.

  • I recently purchased a house with three bathrooms that apparently had not been updated since it was built. Elad and his people were able to do an excellent job by renovating and upgrading all of them in one single remodeling project. From the beginning and during the first meetings that we had with Elad, we noticed clearly that he had brilliant ideas and large scale of imagination on how to maximize the space and to make it as much functional as it can be AND based on our needs. Before the work began and after we decided on the plans, we met with him in order to choose all the final materials and also in that department, he was able to provide an excellent help and advices on what should we get and from where while focusing on the main thing which was -- the budget. One of the most thing that surprised us was when we went with him to the tile store in order to select tiles for each one of the bathrooms and he was very patient as we truly struggled to make a decision. All the bathrooms together were completed in 3 weeks! The workmanship is wonderful and all of them looks stunning. We will definitely hire American home improvement for any type of future renovation projects at our house and we highly recommend them to anyone who is considering of renovating their kitchen or bathrooms.
