    Zero Energy Contracting
Very badly. Signed up for work to be done and paid $1000 deposit just before leaving on vacation with understanding that work would commence when we returned. Price for job included asbestos removal. Removal contractor showed up and told us "Oh, there is no asbestos here". At that point we looked up reviews of this company and discovered that half of the people who had reviewed them gave them the worst possible rating. We then had a different, highly rated contractor come out and give us an estimate for the work that was needed. The price was just over half of what Zero Energy was going to charge. At this point we called Zero Energy, cancelled the contract and requested a return of our deposit. After much back and forth on the phone we attempted to resolve the matter through the credit card with which we paid the deposit. They said that because there was a three day cancellation limit in the contract we had signed, they could not help. We considered going through small claims court since no actual work had been done and there were a number of sketchy points about the written contract we had signed. Ultimately, because of the up front costs and uncertain outcome of going this route, we gave up and ate the $1000 loss on our deposit.

    HERS Rater LA/HouseSmart Green Solutions

I reached out to Dav for an Energy Evaluation of my 5 yo townhouse due to drafts and hot/cold zones.  Dav was prompt to respond to my inquiry and we scheduled the evaluation for a few days later.  On the day of the evaluation, Dav showed up a few minutes BEFORE our scheduled appointment, which scored points right off the bat.  He was very professional; explained exactly what he was doing and why; what results to expect and what it all meant.  He showed me the problem areas which began with a poorly installed HVAC system on my roof; improperly installed ducting; poorly installed insulation and gaps which allowed air to flow freely from my unit to the great outdoors.  I've been using the phrase "as air tight as a screen door on a submarine" to describe the results.  Dav outlined what needs to be done to resolve the issues and gave me a few referrals.

I'm looking forward to resolving these issues and moving on with other aspects of a small remodel project.

    Landmark Energy Upgrades
Last week I had Landmark energy upgrades, do energy efficiency work at my home. The work included sealing all my duct-work in the attic as well as sealing all the spots between the living space below and blowing in additional insulation in order to bring me up to today's standards. I also had them replace all the duct work in my crawlspace and seal it as well as when they came for their initial inspection they found that my duct-work was riddled with holes and was completely uninsulated as well as being unsealed. I initially contacted Landmark after receiving notification that they were offering assorted rebates for home owners to incentivize them to do upgrades to there homes.
I was super pleased with these guys, a total of two crews worked on our home and they were both quick, professional, and explained what they would be doing in detail when they first arrived. They also did a good job cleaning up after themselves. Immediately I noticed a difference in my home after the work was finished. The HVAC system weren?t running nearly as much and the temperature in the home was absolutely more consistent.  Landmark Energy Upgrades promptly handled all the paperwork required in order for me to receive my rebates making this part of the process extremely easy. I fully recommend these guys!

    Zero Energy Contracting
There is not enough room to put all the details about this (fill in the blank) company in this space. We signed a contract with this group in November of 2013 and have yet to have the work completed. As you read with others, a sales person came and told us that the majority of our work would be paid for by rebates. (He did not talk about the tax program the rebates are a part of, nor that no money from the Federal program was to be realized to pay off the loan you have to take out before they will do the work.) The people at the company who are supposed to "help you secure your rebates" do not know the tax laws or rules regarding the incentives. My tax person had to educate them on how it works. Their response to me was "Sorry." The sales people make you sign up for a loan to pay for the work. So Zero Energy gets paid, in full, up front. There is no incentive for them to do the work or be responsive to you. Things started out okay. The workers who come are basically on time. There were a number of "truck broke down en route" to explain delays and the scheduling was all off; they came when we told them not to come. After most of the work was done and we began to get some rebates back, I tried to get the plumbing part finished for the solar water heater; that was April of 2014. I have talked now with I believe it is 4 different guys (there is always a new one who will have to go back and check on my specific job) in charge of the plumbing. I cannot get a straight story about when work is to be completed or what exactly still needs to be completed. I have documentation of the phone calls and contacts that we have had with this company. It is 4 pages, front and back, of promises made and not kept. Workers have apologized to me on more than one occasion for the slowness of things and how long this has taken to get finished. They are subcontractors I believe. I have had emails from Mr. Murphy, including a request to connect up on LInkedIn. He has promised to get this completed. That promise was made last summer. I have made calls to him and he has not called back. This company is terrible. I cannot get them out of my life as I am still owed almost $2000 for the rebate that I am entitled to but can not get until they finish the work. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! IF YOU DO, YOU ARE AS FOOLISH AS I HAVE BEEN.

    Building Doctors
We are very happy with the service Dan and Building Doctors provided. The initial consultation was much friendlier and honest than the competition. We felt much more secure with Dan's knowledge and the quality of his initial assessment.
The project expanded as we decided we wanted to do more work than originally planned in the garage. They were accommodating and the project rolled out smoothly.
Dan did a tremendous amount of research to ensure I was getting the noise reduction for the garage I was looking for. I wanted insulation, new walls, sound reduction, higher efficiency, and temperature regulation. After much research and consultation we moved forward with the agreed upon plan and it was executed well.
Dan and his team were willing to come out as needed for small finishing touches, questions, etc. They certainly went above and beyond on multiple occasions.
The project did take longer than anticipated, but I've never been involved in a single contracting experience that finished on time, so I don't consider this a problem. It was still completed in an acceptable timeframe.

    Eco Green
It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. There were no extra costs. Everything was great. They were fantastic! I think what I like most about dealing with the gentleman from Eco Green was that he was not trying to sell me anything. The things that he saw that were good about the attic and about our air duct system, he was very forthcoming with praise. Other times I get a service person in here and they look around and keep pointing out that the sky was falling because you hire them to fix the system, but they were definitely not like that. They were very forthright.
