    Doheny Concrete Construction Inc
I cant say enough about Shay and his crew. Consummate professionals all. Shay is a foundation expert and a good one. If you want your property to last call this guy! The house we had the pleasure to work on together is a California Spanish revival built in the 30s. It s foundation had been rocked by several large quakes here in California over the years as well as a great deal of water damage and it needed some (a lot) of attention. Of all the contractors I met and spoke with, and got estimates. Shay wasnt the least expensive but, he was honest and explained thoroughly the process, took pictures and literally put my mind at ease that this was the guy for the job. Then over the course of 10 days I got to meet the crew. Let me tell ya its hard to find a work ethic like these guys exhibit every day on the job...****! What else is there to say I am still working with Doheney to this day on other projects because their that good. I am writing this from the comfort of a brand new concrete deck that looks awesome and will help preserve the house for another 85 years.

    Alpha Structural, Inc.
I couldn't be happier. The inspectors, Brad and Matt, were very professional. They did a drawing of the perimeter of my home. They spent a good deal of time under my house. They told me that my house is actually bolted. Some of the bolting is up to code and some is old, but bolted. I was so relieved since I got a quote from another contractor for thousands of dollars to bolt. I am so grateful to find an honest company. Thank you Alpha Structural, Inc..

    The Foundation Works
Our house was built 1938 and did not meet current guidelines for earthquake protection. We had an excellent experience with The Foundation Works. The crew arrived on time, set up their equipment, and promptly started work. The job was completed in less than 1 working days with absolutely no inconvenience to me. The City of Los Angeles inspector was called, and arrived just as the job was being completed. He signed-off on the job with no changes requested. The crew packed up their equipment and cleaned up everything perfectly. The entire crew was friendly and polite. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

    Alpha Structural, Inc.
Excellent! The structural engineer came out immediately for the assessment. The start date was set and everything went smoothly. Every Alpha employee is professional and friendly, prompt, knowledgeable, and responsive to emails. They show up on time, get the job done, clean up, explain everything in detail, and prices are more than reasonable! I can't begin to express how happy I am dealing with Alpha. They are refreshingly honest and don't overbid. We also had another buckling wall at another property that they handled as well. One cost $4300.00 and the other cost $5900. We are using them for our earthquake retrofitting as well at 2 other properties. Will report back when those jobs are complete.

Our house had a bedroom addition built in the 1950's with an inadequate (shallow) foundation and it was sinking, causing cracks the walls. Brad Nestler came out to take a look. He was five minutes early and spent over an hour crawling under every part of the house, then took time to go over what he thought we needed. Even drew up a pretty good map on the spot. He then worked with me on a price I could afford. It involved a geographical inspector coming out here first but I was steered in the right direction and guided every step of the way to make it relatively easy to navigate the process.
When the work was done, the crew was outstanding. Very professional, arrived every day on time and usually a few minutes early. They kept the site clean at the end of every day and got the job done in the time promised.
Brad came back and inspected the work and found a couple of things weren't quite the way he wanted them to be so the crew came back on a Saturday (their day off) to take care of that. I never would have known either way, so that tells me this is an honest company who stands by their work 100% and takes pride in the results.
Excellent communication every step of the way. They handled all the permit business and kept the fees minimal. And while it cost a lot of money, their price was competitive and I believe you get what you pay for. So I'm happy with what I got for my money.
I wouldn't hesitate to hire Alpha Structural again if the need arises. I would definitely use them if I need a foundation inspection for a future home purchase as well. They are thorough, knowledgeable, professional and do excellent work.

    The House Next Door
My experience was professional and smooth. While in the process of getting better homeowners insurance, I realized I needed retro-fitting and bolting (which by the way required in lid Angeles), I found "the House Next Door" on Angie's list. Good reviews & comments. They sent one of their senior project managers - Matt Levy, he came to give me free inspection and estimate. Actually crawled underneath the house. Very detail oriented & knowledgeable. We hired him right away. I'm very glad about my decision. The project went smoothly and the workers were respectful & dedicated. I highly recommended them for any project big or small.

    UPDATE - 9-24-2013;

I'm updating this review to reflect something pretty amazing. Out of the blue I received a call from Ed Sylvis, the owner of the company. He informed me that he had read the review I posted here and was very upset that his company didn't follow-through on the promised items which should have been included in the estimate for which I paid $150.00. Not only did Mr. Sylvis offer what I felt to be a genuinely sincere apology, he also informed me he was refunding my entire $150.00 and that he would re-do the estimate as it should have been done in the first place. I was truly floored by this. Not only had it been 3 and a half months since the original estimate, but Mr. Sylvis made it very clear this was not the way he normally did business and he would make it right. Period.

Well, yesterday I received a full refund of my $150.00 along with a letter written by Mr. Sylvis, again apologizing for what transpired. He sent along the promised photos and wrote that he would be sending the completely re-done estimate soon.

I'm keeping the info below on the original review otherwise this one won't make any sense. I do believe I would give Seismic Safety another chance if and when we decide to move forward with foundation repairs and the retrofit.

It cost 150.00 to get this estimate. I was prepared to pay this in order to receive an accurate estimate. When Adrian was done I was told to make my check payable to Ed Sylvis, the owner of the company. I did so. However, when the bid arrived it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. What I received was basically two paragraphs telling me I needed some foundation and king post repair along with the voluntary retrofit, but no detail of any kind.
I called yesterday to get clarification, to ask where are the photos I was promised and where is the diagram showing what, in the opinion of Adrian, needed to be replaced or strapped or fixed. I was told Adrian was in the field but would get back to me that day. No one called. I waiting until noon today and called to find out what happened. I was told Adrian was still in the field and didn't have time to call. He was still in the field and still unable to call. I requested someone else call me today. I did receive a call from Dave, unfortunately though he was very nice and professional in manner, he could only offer surmises as to why the report was so lacking in any detail, why the promised photos were not sent and no idea what happened to the diagram of suggested repairs.
The report said I had cracks in my foundation, but not how many or where they were located. It said that these cracks would be filled with mortar when epoxy is the norm. Dave said that epoxy is something most companies don't know how to use properly and mortar is an acceptable alternative. I know a City Deputy Inspector is involved anytime epoxy is used, so this made no sense to me, unless Dave was inferring Seismic Safety doesn't know how to properly use the epoxy to fill the foundation cracks.
I was told I needed king posts replaced, but not how many or where those posts were located. Dave did not know the answer to these questions. Again, there was no clarification on the type of bolting to be used; expansion bolts or epoxy bolts. No mention of our cracked girders under the house. I know we have two as I have gone under our home many times and have seen these for myself. In fact, those girders are part of the reason we decided to have a retrofit.
In summary; this bid was so vague and so lacking in any kind of detail necessary to make an informed decision that I felt the 150.00 spent was a complete waste of my family's money and everyone time all around. I was also told by Dave that Seismic was extremely busy and this is why the lapse in communication. I understand that a company can get busy - but if they were this busy they had no business accepting our request for a bid and the 150.00 we paid them.
Based on all these things, I would not use this company. If you decide to do so, make sure you ask for the details in a bid you expect otherwise, from my experience, I do not believe you will receive them.

    Sinai Construction
Gary's estimator was prompt and professional. The detailed diagram of what he felt needed to be addressed was very beneficial to understanding what they wanted to do. Because it's important to us to understand why the estimator felt this way I initiated several calls to Sinai. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the owner of the company was the one who supplied answers to all my questions. When Gary didn't have an answer at hand, he researched it and got back to me in a timely manner.
Because deciding on a contractor for such a large and expensive undertaking involves many factors, we have yet to decide between the 3 companies from who've we've taken bids. Since, communication and responsiveness is a key factor I felt for all Gary's efforts and time this review was necessary no matter the eventual outcome of our final decision.

This was the best experience we have had working with contractors, hands-down. The communication from the office and the work crew was excellent throughout. The work proceeded as planned, completing earlier than expected.

    California Construction Center
I called California Construction Center first after I decided that I wanted to go forward with my room addition plans. This was my second project working with them after I had my kitchen and bathrooms redone. I was able to meet with the owner Jonathan once again to discuss my plans for an addition and have him help guide me through the process with his design knowledge. My anxiety to build the room addition was very high however at the same time I felt hesitant to go through more construction on my home.

We agreed on a start date for the addition and the work started promptly with no delay. They started by tearing down a large portion from the side of the wall in order to make the connection to the new room that would be added. This was the worst part for me to watch but I knew the new and improved home was on its way.

This home improvement project was much easier to handle for us due to the fact that the area being worked on was not actually part of the house yet. The company played their part with scheduling work hours around our schedule and getting steps of the project completed in a reasonable timeframe of ten weeks.

In the end I am very happy with the results. They have done another great job on my home with the new room addition. It?s difficult to tell the difference from where my house stops and where the addition begins. I wanted to ensure that the room addition would blend into the home as just another room and they were successful in doing so. The additional space will be used as another bedroom for the home and I am glad we can finally take advantage of the previously unused space.

The standards of California Construction Center are in line with mine and I love the work that they do. Their workers are professional, friendly, and considerate to your needs. I have yet to have any issues with the home improvement projects California Construction Center has provided me with.
