    Pacific Outdoor Living
    Had an above average experience. For starters the project was finished so fast. I feel like when it comes to any kind of construction project I just expect the project to go way over schedule, this was not the case. The only problem I had was not being able to decide which styles to go with which took me some time to decide but after I knew what I wanted the designer was accommodating and flexible. I was told the back patio would be done in 7 days and it was. That was just one cool thing about it. The crew was super nice. There was no mess afterwards. Or while they were working on the pavers which has bugged me with other companies in the past. Pavers look great, they match the house. I wish I could do more to my yard but will definitely call back when I'm able to.

    Robert Palacios Masonry Inc
    Rather than try to win the contract, Bob advised me not to invest in the wall because of issues with the neighbor. I can't say enough about Bob's professionalism and integrity, and I wouldn't hesitate to call him for another project.

    MB Paving
    Jose with MB Paving is a pleasure to do business with. He was very responsive for quoting, even after being on another job site all day he stopped by multiple times to answer all our questions before booking confirmation. During the job, Jose was on-site every day. His crew was professional, timely, and highly skilled. We had our previous asphalt driveway replaced with 2500 sq ft of concrete with brick ribbons. Jose even added extra touches such as a herringbone brick pattern at the driveway gate and 2 entryways to the house. We would absolutely hire MB Paving again and offer recommendations.

    Daniel From Paramount worked with us in our house about a cover for the fireplace that we have in our living room.
    The work started with measurements and sample that Daniel brought for us.
    We had a lot of samples to select from and this was great. The showroom that this company have is pretty good size.
    After we ordered the fire place stone, Daniel and his team came over and installed it.
    The fire place look great and Daniel and his workers did a perfect job.

    Sculptured Gardens Alive
    The confidence that I had in Dan Tyson/Sculptured Gardens Alive from our very first contact  was right on target!  I wanted "an inviting back yard" with 1) expansion of some of the existing patio areas  to include room for ping pong table;  2) use of existing flower beds;   3) a raised garden; 4)  grass area decreased by half and replaced with hardy ground cover; 5) drought tolerant plants; and "something"  done to improve our front patio.       Prior to Dan, yard was a  hodge-podge of improvements : out-dated pavers; short block wall with gobs of cement showing and random bricks painted white;  patios extended with different types of brick  here and there; poor grass and plantings, etc.   After make over:  t he change is more than we thought possible in back and front!!!  The changes made our outside  inviting, cozy and purposeful!!!  WE LOVE IT!!!!!
     In addition to the "A's" above,  these points certainly added to making this an excellent experience:    (1) DAN'S  RESPECT FOR OUR BUDGET AND GOALS/  QUESTIONS/SUGGESTIONS;  DAN'S COORDINATION OF THE WORK;  DAN'S RESPECT FOR MY HUSBAND'S DISABILITY AND SAFETY ISSUES  (I think he and Cesar/Vance/crews were  as excited when the raised garden was finished  as we were!);   (3) It was SUCH A  PLEASURE HAVING DAN'S CREWS (LED BY CESAR AND VANCE) AT OUR HOME...welcoming all the questions I came up with....well, except for the dust !!   (4) the FOLLOW-UP SINCE PROJECT COMPLETION (by phone and visits) ;and (5) I can still CALL DAN  WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS (and I have) as has been the case  all along.

    Beware of Robbie Hewitt Construction Services.  The job was for the interior paint job of my entire house, framing a wall, texturing pot shelf, tear out of all wood and carpet, and luxury laminate floor and molding installation.  The contractor took full advantage of my lack of knowledge regarding upfront costs, and frontloaded the deposit by asking for ($4625.00 ) 50% of the total bid proposal to be paid upfront!  Which is a total violation of California Business and Professions Code Section 7159
    see link --->
    The contractor was only allowed to ask for 10% or $1000.00, whichever came first. I purchased THE MAJORITY of the material
    for the job, which would not have warranted such deposit.  Robbie Hewitt failed to show up consistently for weeks, and was weeks past written and verbal contract schedule.  Contractor continued throughout the contract to demand payment, and cash checks for jobs not started, nor completed which is another violation of California Business and Professions Code Section 7159
    see link ---->
    I was given a plethora of excuses in front of many witnesses?, and reassured over and over he would be done on time, but only
    if I paid him money to cover for his workers to return.  His entire contract was riddled with violations with the California State Contractors License Board and has been reported accordingly.  He was unfamiliar with the flooring materials purchased, nor possessed tools needed to install properly at industry standards.  His lack of knowledge, and tools resulted in a sub-par install; failed to level the floor prior to laying floating floor, failed to use transition strips separating all rooms for proper movement, and failed to undercut door jams leaving gaping holes in every door jam in entire house which could not be covered with mouldings or the doors would not close.  This voided manufactures warranty on material and requires a demo and reinstall. Additionally, he was discovered intoxicated smoking marijuana on the property while operating dangerous power tools.
    This dispute was escalated to arbitration through the California State Contractors License Board and the matter was closed on 9/30/2013 in MY FAVOR. The contractor was told he shall pay me to remove and replace flooring. This arbitration ruling will go public after a 30 day grace period if the contractor fails to pay the award given to me no later than 10/30/2013.
    I cannot state what a nightmare it has been to dispute someone who thinks it is OK to rip someone off with bogus contract, bid a job they are not qualified to do, and get away with it.
    The job did not meet the MINIMUM workmanship standards of the industry, and was ruled against him in the arbitration dispute. Currently said license is suspended for no bond coverage, and I suspect will remain that way for this grace period and then become permanently suspended or revoked.
    Please steer clear of this contractor. He will tell you he can do ANY job, just to get you to hire him.
    Check the Contractors State License Board on his contractor license # 870746.
    It is currently suspended link --->

    Seacor Masonry, Inc
    We had Darren install a walkway on the side of our property, about 13 1/2 feet in length.  It was completed in stages, first digging out the ground and setting the brick ribbon.  The next day they poured the concrete.  There was a small problem that I noticed after our worker left.  I called Darren's wife and she sent the worker back within 1/2 hour.  Very quick response!!  He fixed the problem and the outcome looks fantastic.  I also had them put in a small planter to compliment the brick in the pathway.  They did a fantastic job.  I would recommend them and I would use them again.

    Kyle Beym Home Improvement
    We contacted Kyle Beym through an Angie's List special we had purchased.  Although Kyle showed up at the appointed hour, it quickly became apparent to us that he lacked the skills needed to perform the work we wanted done.  We needed to have an attached awning rebuilt, which he was willing to do. However, he mentioned right off that he didn't do painting, and that we would have to make other arrangements for that.  There was also some minor roof repair involved - "I don't do roofing" we were told.  Finally, there was a brick planter beneath the awning that was cracked which we also wanted to have rebuilt.  Once again, we were told "I don't do masonry".  With such a limited skill set, we thought it kind of a stretch for Kyle to be advertising himself as a "general contractor", so we cancelled the special and got our money refunded.
    In general, we were very disappointed in the whole presentation of this "special".  We understood that the cost of materials would be extra, and we were okay with that.  As it turned out, we also had to take responsibility for getting all of the materials delivered.  I pointed out to Kyle that we both had to work for a living and that we wouldn't be able to take time off of work to run down to Home Depot at a moments notice whenever they ran out of something.  Kyle replied that he would be willing to "help us out with that", but that seemed just a little too vague for us.  We told Kyle that we wanted someone who was going to take responsibility for all aspects of the job, and that the terms of the "special" were not acceptable.
    Kyle seems like a decent, personable guy, but even if his skill set weren't so limited, we likely would not have given him our business.  He simply did not impress us as being professional.  When he showed up for the estimate, he mentioned that he'd missed our street on the first pass because he was busy talking on the phone - probably not the best thing to share with a potential customer.  He then proceeded to take some measurements of the awning we wanted to have rebuilt - with his feet.  Seriously - he heeled-and-toed it all the way across the driveway.  He had apparently forgotten his tape measure.

    Seacor Masonry, Inc
    Darren and his assistant were meticules in every detail. The work was of the highest quality. They started with the footings, then layed block and rebar. Then filled each column with concrete and then layed stacked stone on each column and then installed masonry caps and they stayed right on schedule. The work is absolutely beautiful! I Highly recommend Stonecraft Masonry for any masonry projects. Darren is a very skilled craftsman and a man of integrity! You can't go wrong by hiring him.

    Designer Paving
    Designer Paving was contracted to demo the driveway and porch, then lay paver stones on the driveway, Arizona Flagstone for porch, and a stone veneer for the porch and flower basin walls. Most of it was going OK, until we were informed that they had been back ordered by their supplier for the veneer. A week turned into two, then three, then the job got finished in October. In the meantime they had left a pile of trash, and supplies on our front lawn, which we had to move. They did respond when I contacted them, but were deficient in their communication to us. When it came time to put in the porch and stone veneer we felt that their quality of work quickly deteriorated. The porch was cut, and had to be fixed, because it looked terrible. The stone veneer had a loose piece that I ended up "gluing" back in. The Arizona flagstone, which looked beautiful until they laid it. It then looked really chalking. The assured us they would "acid" wash the stone, and then seal it. NOW this is where the real troubles began. Either they don't know how to seal Arizona flagstone, or the used the wrong product, because it looks terrible. I had to call the manufacturer of the sealant to get the fix. When they came for final payment, and I pointed out the porch "Carlos" was adamant that the porch would "fix" itself in the next few months. Well here it is 5 months later and it looks the same. 1. They did a wonderful job on the paver stones. If that was the entirety of our experience we would have been very happy. 2. Given that they started in early July, and finished in October, and that the porch still needs to be fixed, I wouldn't let them do work on a porch. 3. I asked them at least 5 times to mark where they had lain pipe for a future sprinkler system... I am still waiting on that.
