    OC Deck & Patio
It was great, Brian was very professional,  we had him look at the job several times over a year, giving us options on how to fix it right, while the job was delayed by other construction. He was just fantastic with working it all to the new schedules as it was a difficult project. He has amazing building skills with excellent precise workmanship with all details. We were thrilled he took care of everything !!!!!!

    OC Decks- Water Proofing Systems
They were very professional.  They applied many layers of underlay and decking material.  The decks look beautiful.  Plus they repaired stucco on the side of my house which had buckled due to the leaking of the old deck.

    Finyl Vinyl Building Products

Finyl Vinyl workers showed up on time and they were hard workers and had our gazebo finished in about 6

hours.  It turned out beautiful!   Our only complaint is it is not waterproof.  It rained a few days after the gazebo was up and, to our surprise, some fairly substantial amount of rain leaked in thru the gazebo roof onto our outdoor furniture pillows and area rug.  When we called Don and questioned this he told us that a gazebo is built for shade not rain.  This was a bit of a disappointment as we had assumed the roof would have been sealed against this.  It is not.  Assuming that it would not leak does not seem to us to be an unreasonable assumption and we would have appreciated if we would have been made aware of this in the beginning when we first talked to Don.  Our work around has been to cover the furniture and rug with a tarp when expecting rain.   All that being said, we do love our gazebo.  It is excellent quality and a nice addition to our backyard.

    Best-Rate Repair & Termite Company
I bought the $149 four hour special, but the estimate to do what I wanted to have done was over $2000. When I cut out some of the "extra" painting we finally agreed upon something closer to $1149. The work was done properly and the end result was satisfactory, but I was surprised at the end cost. I thought four hours of time would have accomplished more than it did.

    National Deck & Stair
Overall and specially, excellent preparation and execution of services.  Due to the importance of having a waterproof roof deck, I was extremely involved in taking precautions to select a solid company to repair and maintain our deck and stairs.
My roof deck was 15 years old and needed to be replaced in various places due to normal wear.  After hours of research relating to deck and stair maintenance, I interviewed 3 companies and each provided a bid.  I selected National Deck and Stair ("National"), who was slightly more expensive than the lowest bid; however, National offered an "unconditional one year guarantee" whereas the lowest bid expressly provided "no warranty."  Our property is near the beach so the constant moisture, salt water, sun, wind, etc., is especially harsh on our deck, and we wanted a warranty for piece of mind.  It's also notable that National provides a "replacement" guarantee if I properly maintain my deck and stairs after National completes the work.
As for receiving an estimate from National, it was simple and straightforward.  We called National to schedule an appointment, and the estimator, John, arrived as scheduled.  John was highly personable, courteous, and attentive.  He answered my questions directly and provided welcomed insight on deck and stair repair and maintenance.  Over the next couple months (before choosing National to do the work), I called and emailed John regarding further questions about the deck/stair work and warranty, and he was extremely patient and considerate in answering my questions.  John's honesty and customer service made the entire process comforting.
National completed the work in 3 days (as John estimated).  The workers were professional, respectful, and clean, and did not enter the house to reach the roof deck; they used a ladder.  After I inspected the work, I contacted John with questions regarding small areas of the deck and stairs where one could see fiberglass intermeshed (appearing like tiny bird nests) that I thought should be smoothed out, and an area of the stair railing that I thought should be repainted.  John scheduled a time to meet with me, examined the work, and within nine (9) calendar days, National performed additional work to address my concerns to my complete satisfaction.
I highly recommend National and John for future deck and stair work.

    Ameduri Construction
Ameduri Construction takes on more than they can handle, leaving them to be unreliable, irresponsible, and unprofessional.  They do not stand by their work.  Mark Ameduri underestimates the time required to complete a job, then bills for time and materials, leaves the job unfinished, and makes you feel like he is doing you a favor if he makes the time to come back.  He does not show up on time, leaves for hours during the day, and bills at $37 per hour for the time he is gone.
I initially called Ameduri construction to repair a glass sliding door in one of my showers.  That was my number one priority.  Mark said that it would cost $100 for him to come out to fix the shower, but that if I had other projects to be done, he would charge $300 for a whole day.  That seemed like a good deal, so I had him come over to look at some siding repair that we also needed.  While he was there, he said that he would purchase the siding pieces before he came to work, and that in one day he would fix the shower door (which only needed some adhesive) and repair the siding.  We also noticed that a wood shelf that is outside a second story window was rotting, so he said he would get the 2x4's to repair that, and that he would bring a helper to paint the outside of my hot tub for $12 per hour.  He said that he would come at 8AM and work a long day, until 7 or 8PM to get the job done.
This initial estimate was done around the middle of May, but Mark did not know when he could actually make time for the job.  He wanted to work Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day weekend, but that is not allowed in our neighborhood, so we finally agreed that he would start at 8AM on May 30.  He actually showed up at 10AM that day, left for 4 hours to "purchase the materials", and left by 5PM, leaving me with a shower door that had been disassembled, but the adhesive had not worked, and leaving me with pieces of unfinished siding.    He wasn't sure when he could return, but when I was very dissatisfied with that, he somehow moved some other jobs around and returned the following day.  On the second day he brought a different adhesive which worked on my shower door, and continued working on the siding, although he did not complete it.  That day he put the shower door back on and caulked the metal frame that he had loosened to get it out.  When he left on May 31, the job was not complete, and he could not come back June 13.  During that interim period, the caulking he applied disintegrated because he had not cleaned out the water that had been trapped under the metal frame that he had caulked.  He came back on June 13 and put some shims under the frame so that it would dry, saying that he would come back on June 15 to caulk that and thereby finish that repair.  However, June 15 he didn't show, and he cancelled the following appointment that he had set to come back as well.  So one month later, my first priority, my shower door is still not fixed.  The siding job has been finished, but at three times the price he initially estimated, since he initially said he could do it in one day, and it took three days.  The wood shelf - he spent a lot of time painting the wood on his last day here, but ran out of time to install it.  Throughout the day he said that it would be finished, and then at the end of the day he said "I just don't think I'm going to have the time to install that today".  Since that time, I have had another contractor come to look at it, and he said that the wrong paint was used, that it was not properly primed, and so the wood has bled through the paint, and it needs to be painted all over again.  The helper to paint the hot tub - Mark called the day before they were to come and said that he wanted $15 per hour, not $12.  I asked if it would be complete by the end of the day and he said yes, so I agreed.  What I didn't know was that Mark would spend the last two hours of his day helping the helper, so the total cost was actually increased by Mark's rate of $37 per hour, thereby also contributing to the reason why he couldn't install the wood shelf that day.  He then left all of the wood in the middle of the garage, obstructing the walkway to the door to my home.
Mark told me that his wife is due to have a baby, and that she is on bed rest.  While I am compassionate to that, I do believe that he then should have had the forethought to take on only those jobs that he could finish, not to leave me with something half done.  I have two children that share the shower that he worked on.  He said that it would have taken him one hour or less to come over and recaulk the shower.  A dedicated contractor who values his customers would have found a way to clear that hour.
When Mark cancelled the two days he had planned to come back to finish this job, I contacted him and asked for a refund, at least for the amount I paid to have him repair the shower door.  It is now over one month since his first visit, that shower is not functional because the water will leak out of the area that needs to be caulked, and I need to find someone else to complete his work.  His response was "reallly?".
I do not recommend this contractor.

    UPDATE: 7/17/2012

The response below is not accurate. I have the invoice to show that I was indeed charged cntractor's $37/hr rate for painting in addition to the $15 /hr helper rate. Furthermore he alleges that I told him I was going to call Angie's List, when in reality I just texted to ask him if he was going to finish the job or to refund the fees so I could get someone else to do so.

Finally, I never called to purchase a Big Deal, the contractor promoted the Big Deal to me. I wasn't aware I had to purchase this online.

    Absolute Maintenance & Consulting
While trying to get everything in order to move in to our new house, a mold inspector had uncovered large amounts of water damage and mold in nearly every area of the house, much of which was missed on our general inspection. We didn't order a formal air quality test, but I found out quickly that spending any long periods of time in the house would make me physically ill.
Cameron, his foreman Jaime and the rest of his crew came through and found all of the problem areas and set out a plan to get the house livable before we would start moving in. Both he and his crew are professional and courteous, and better yet they know what they're doing. We even had to be out of town for about four days during the project, but they called with updates, emailed progress photos and kept everything under control until we could return. As a company they prioritize using products that are safe and enviromentally friendly.  The whole job took only a few weeks, and we're just getting ready to call in the painters so we can actually move in.
It's defeating to hear that your entire house has water and mold issues, but these guys knew how to come in and fix it quickly.  If you're in the same boat as we were, call Absolute and they'll make sure that boat doesn't have any leaks or mold.

    Robert Sappo Construction
From my experiences I would not use anyone else. Rob is first and foremost a good person but also a capable & knowledgable contractor who happens to be a perfectionist. There is no cutting corners and all jobs are completed exactley as we have discussed. All jobs are fairly priced and there has not been one time where I have questioned his work or work ethic. After gettting quote after quote for all of our projects, we feel we have found the best person out there to complete jobs in a timely manner and will continue to use him and refer him to our friends.
