5 Plumbing Tips for a New Home

Plumber reviews in Napa

Our service technician was very well versed in plumbing issues. We had a couple of quirky issues with our new home-- one was murky or cloudy water at various faucets throughout the house. Another was warm water coming from the cold faucet late in the afternoon at the main kitchen sink. We suspected air pockets in the pipes was causing the murkiness in the water and that the pipes were getting warm from the sun in the kitchen. This was confirmed, but we went through a number of tests to rule out other possibilities. Our technician thoroughly analyzed our entire house, the products we installed, and then went away and did some research on his own on our water heater and other products or solutions that we could consider. We were very pleased with his knowledge and attention. The charge was more than fair for the amount of work and time he put into researching our problems. We will definitely use Oak Plumbing in the going foward.

We had some service provided by Oak Plumbing who we made contact with through Angie's List. The work was "finished" in late November/early December. Unfortunately, we had to call the company back later in December because things were not properly finished and we had more issues with the bathroom and kitchen plumbing. Unfortunately, they were still not properly finished/functioning and we had to have them back in January. Recently we have been noticing dampness and musty odors throughout the house and I investigated, again finding an issue with the plumbing work. The plumbers came back out and have stated they have finally fixed the plumbing issue. The problem is that the plumbing issue has created other issues within our walls, crawl space and possibly subfloor. The issue has been magnified and we had testing for mold completed last week and it came back positive but only in the area where the work was performed. The plumbers claim that their workmanship/materials did not cause the problems and are not willing to address the new issues. I was told that someone from the plumbing company would contact me last Thursday, but I never heard from anyone. I made contact again, asking to have the owner(s) call me, was hung up on and still have not heard from the company. This is extremely frustrating, as we spent a lot of money for their service which has now affected another home improvement service (crawl space liner) that was a month old when the plumbers came out initially and has spread into damaging our wall, not to mention the possibility of the subfloor. I have tried to explain this to the general manager of the plumbing company and would like to also explain it to the owner(s), but seem to being blocked from doing so as the general manager is the one who has hung up on me. I have called back once each day since, just trying to explain the situation to someone other than the general manager as I am not convinced the messages are being forwarded to someone who would be willing to listen and help. Initially, we were happy with the service and the work, but that has changed.

The Homeworx guys were friendly and helpful: we talked over some options for the whole-house water filtration system I had purchased. They installed it exactly in the place we agreed upon, adapted its layout to fit my house, and added clear and easy-to-follow written bypass notes for use in filter change/replacement. (It has worked perfectly for two years so far.) They were respectful and cleaned up after themselves. I would call on them again!

The owner was not friendly. He brought in heavy equipment and dug up shrubs and a huge hole...which we never authorized...we only authorized him pumping the tank. He left all the shrubs he dug up in the carport for us to dispose of...he would not do it. He showed up at our property manager's office and wanted to know when he could start the job. He was very pushy and not a pleasant or friendly man.

Bell Products was responsive and was able to include all that I requested. Price was a bit higher than other bids due to union shop, but this ensured that workmanship was to notch. The work went well and all that was promised was delivered. The subcontractor removed old vermiculite attic insulation and blew in new insulation. Placed batting on vertical closet walls which really eliminated hot closets.

Kelly did an excellent job on my bathroom remodel. Extensive tile work, new plumbing in bathroom, and a few recessed lights placed. Very knowledgeable, perfectionist with his work, honest and reliable. I chose not to include painting in the job, and I had difficulty with stripping the layers of paint off the walls (it's an old home), and he took care of it for me no extra charge. I get so many compliments on his work, it's crazy. Great guy, will definitely be hiring him for ANY work I will be doing to my home.

Don was right on time (he arrived at 12:30 during is 12-4 service window). He was very professional and completed the job quickly; it has been a couple of weeks an none of the leaks/drips have resurfaced since he came by. We've had similar jobs done in the past and not only did the problems come back quickly, we were charged almost double his price. I would recommend Don for any plumbing needs.

I had just purchased the house last fall and this week YEARS of buildup in the kitchen sink came to a head. Daniel from Boden plumbing came out. He arrived just after the service window (2:05 for a 2pm to 4pm service window). He was very cool, friendly, polite and made quick work of the drain.
I would totally go with them again

I was looking for a general contractor to install a new 60" shower stall.  I had a small corner "gem shape" shower that was leaking badly and needed to be repaired before I could put a new renter in the house.  I shopped for a contractor for 2 weeks and was getting frustrated.  Living in Napa, some contractors assume you're rich and give you a first quote so ridiculously high, it's not even worth your time.

I was running out of time, so I called Jose because he has done some basic plumbing for me in the past.  He was able to come by for a quote within 1 day, which was faster than every other contractor I talked to.  He gave me a quote of $3,000, and he even offered to install a new sink/vanity at no cost to me as long as I assemble the cabinet.  This was very reasonable compared to the quotes I had received from other General Contractors for more than $10,000.  I explained to the other Contractors that all I wanted was a simple 3-piece shower kit installed, and they would insist that they will only install their own manufactured showers because they can't warranty a shower purchased from Delta or Sterling.  This is ridiculous, and something for homeowners to look out for if they ever need a shower done:  most contractors want to sell you the most expensive materials available.  Do your own shopping so that you know the actual cost of your materials, and know that the warranty comes from the material manufacturer, not the installer.

My project was not straightforward:  a new alcove wall needed to be constructed, floor tile needed to be cut, and a drain pipe which sits inside of a concrete slab needed to be relocated.   He was able to address all of this.  He was able to order the shower and start within 1 week and he finished the job in 4 days.  He was very polite and showed up on time at 8am every day.

The quality of the work was great with respect to the plumbing.  He identified a leaking copper pipe inside the wall, and he repaired it at no additional cost to me.  He also noticed a problem with the way my toilet tank was installed so he also took care of that at no extra cost to me.  The only complaint I have with respect to quality was a replacement of the removed tile.  He's obviously not a tile guy, but this is the kind of thing anybody with a tile saw can do easily.  The drywall work was satisfactory, and was done by one of Jose's helpers.

I have a wife and 2 dogs, and he was very good with my dogs and I felt completely safe leaving my wife alone at home to "supervise".  Jose is extremely polite and he works hard and fast.

The service member arrived on time, within the designated time window. He took a very long time writing up the paperwork, but once that was finally complete he moved quickly to complete the work. The quality of his work wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. All three of the toilets had to be adjusted after I inspected them (like tightening the tank to the base, and tightening the toilet seats), and the flex line to the dryer needed to be tightened (we didn't discover this until after he left, when we moved in and went to hook up the dryer, which was very inconvenient). The work was very expensive, but I guess most plumbing services are, from what I have experienced in the past. I might use them again, but I will likely contact a different plumber first to see if I can get services performed for less money.
