    LifeStyle Building & Remodeling
Initially the contractor John Wiebe quoted me a cost of $75K to redo the house the way I wanted it done. I unfortunately told him that that was within my budget. That cost would have included enlarging the both bathroom windows and replacing the tub/shower with just a large shower in the guest bathroom. The master bath would be totally remodeled, with separate jetted tub and large shower. All vanities would be replaced. The kitchen would have had new cabinets, counter-top and all damaged doors would have been replaced throughout the house. The old overhead florescent lighting fixtures would be replaced. A week after giving me that quote Mr Wiebe informed me the project would cost $124K to complete. We determined that many aspects of the project would have to be downsized or eliminated to bring the costs down. Many things were eliminated without my knowledge and the result is that no room is the way I really wanted it. The master bath comes closest, but the window did not get enlarged and I have a bathroom with no door. The door was damaged and was supposed to have been replaced. I am stuck with the shower/tub and very small window in the guest bath. I was forced to just paint the existing bathroom vanities and kitchen cabinets. I purchased a new powder room vanity myself. The only rooms that have the plumbing fixtures I wanted are the master bath and kitchen, In spite of giving Mr Wiebe 3 months notice and numerous reminders the laundry room and kitchen were not ready when the installers delivered the washer, dryer and refrigerator. They had to leave the washer and dryer in the living room and the refrigerator in the garage. Mr Wiebe wanted me to pay the installer to come out again and install the appliances when the rooms were ready. I refused and he had to install them himself.
The project took five months to complete and neighbors reinforced what I had suspected which was that workers were only on the project a couple of days a week, at most and often less, and never on weekends. Numerous times I went to the house when Mr Wiebe had said his workers were there, only to find the house empty and no one around. In light of that I can understand why the project took so long. I am still awaiting a breakout of all the expenses. From what Mr. Wiebe has provided me I can account for only about $50K of the total expense. I know that I was charged for travel time and expense for his workers and in hindsight I should have hired a contractor closer to the house.
I had the distinct feeling throughout the project that Mr. Wiebe was only half listening to me, if at all. There were numerous misunderstandings and miscommunications which cost me additional time and expense over and above what he was charging me.
In hindsight I would not have hired this contractor and would not put myself through the stress, expense and aggravation that this project entailed. The thing I am happiest with is the extensive tile work. The tile installer is a true artist and did a beautiful job throughout the house.

    Bob Smith Painters
Bob was probably a great contractor in his day and he will tell you over and over again that he usually works on "high end" homes.

We picked a different painter from A-list but he was busy and gave our number to Bob. I confirmed that he was also on the list so we didn't investigate further.

We bought a 1972 house with original kitchen. Couldn't afford to replace the cabinets and they were in pretty good shape anyway so we looked into refinish options. Deciding between stain and paint, Bob suggested the varnished cabinets would look nice refinished in stain. Estimated 7-10 days.

The job was over 3 weeks. Bob got in over his head, the sanding of the original finish didn't come out well and we ultimately had to go with paint. Bob did a good job spraying the boxes on site and took the doors and drawers to his shop.

Bob didn't anticipate problems with custom built, old cabinets and found that we couldn't replace the hardware easily. In the end, he delivered the doors to us but did not rehang them.

The quality of the painting was good and the price was fair. It was all the extra hassle, time and what looked like a lack of experience that led Bob into a job that he could not do. I think a guy that has been doing this work for decades would be able to anticipate problems with old cabinets that the homeowner could not imagine. These were all problems that had nothing to do with applying paint but maybe Bob should have been able to see them. In the end, I have a bunch of doors that I have to hang myself.

    Wilson Quality Painting
David is not only a painter, but also an artist.  He has done several jobs for me as well as our condo complex.  I can always depend on the job being done right and the job being done beautifully.  He is such an easy going person and I know that I can leave my home and not worry about anything missing.  He is honest, dependable and does a fantastic job.  I also feel that David's rates are very fair.  I have used him for the past 5 years and plan to use him whenever I need painting done.

    Brent's Better Painting
The prep work took longer than the painting. They were very neat and moved and covered the furniture that was place in the center of the room. Also covered all of the carpet. They worked five days which was what they estimated, arriving at 9am and departing at 4:30 or 5pm. I will use them again and can highly recommend this company.

    MARIO PEREZ PAINTING
The work was neat and meticulous. Each step was thought out and preparations, including sanding, were completed with a minimum of dust. Mario's crew were careful to mask off any surface not to be painted at that time and put plastic over any surfaces not being painted. They lined the cabinets with plastic so that the only surface painted was the correct surface. Mario took the cabinet doors and drawers to his shop to spray paint while the rest of the cabinet surfaces were sprayed in the kitchen. Extensive use of plastic and meticulous masking kept the paint where is was supposed to go. The finished job was flawless and beautiful.

    DIMAS ARTISTIC DESIGNS
Efrain was referred by a friend that had him paint their interior and design some floral applications to their interior walls. They reported that he was very neat and a perfectionist. I asked him for a free estimate and he was out the next day. His rate was very reasonable and we scheduled him. He showed up on time and quickly began preparing the area to be painted. He is very meticulous, yet works at a good pace. The color I selected for the cabinets was terrible, but he painted on a sample without comment and showed me the result. It was ghastly and he suggested a different color completely. I selected from color samples he brought and he painted a new sample. He was right! That is probably why he calls his company Dimas Artistic Designs. He not only has excellent painting skills, but is very artistic with an excellent color sense. He completed the work within 3 days. The results were outstanding.
