    Fixed the garage door latch bolt right away. The patio door lock mechanism was broken, so they had to order a new mechanism, but there were no model numbers visible. So they took dimensions and managed to find a replacement through their distributor(s). They ordered the part and installed it a few weeks later, after it arrived from the manufacturer.. Appointments were easily made, and at convenient times. They were in frequent contact about the status of the order, etc. Overall, excellent service.

    Joe came out and started work.  He told me that the new gate was too thick and uneven.  I asked what my options were.  He said either a padlock or the deadbolt.  Since I had the gate built specifically to accommodate a deadbolt my impression was that the deadbolt would be flush and not protruding because of the thickness.  The result ruined the new gate.  

    I was very upset when I saw the result.  Joe told me it was the fault of the fence company.  I sent pictures to them and spoke to the owner.  He said he does this gate all the time and has never had any problems with people having deadbolts installed and suggested I get a new locksmith.

    I called Brucar and was told to email the owner.  I emailed photos to Amy and she was immediately responsive and then she said she'd talk to Joe and call me.  She called me the next day, I believe.  She said Joe insists that what was done was the only solution besides a padlock.  I told her that I was leaving for vacation but that upon my return I would need to have everyone meet to find a solution to fix what was done. 

    I have had to do extensive research to figure this out.  I contacted the maker of the deadbolt Joe installed, Schlage.  I spoke to their customer service and sent them photos and gate measurements and was told "when it came to deadbolts having to be extended evenly only......when it comes to deadbolts the only things required to be longer are the screws and the tailpiece. So even if you specify the lock @ 3.0'' EE and your gate is not 3.0'' EE but is 3.0 EO, EI no matter because the screws and tailpiece will accommodate any extended door as long as it is in that particular range."  

    Additionally, Schlage also stated that the door would have be fixed because the locksmith bored too big of a hole.

    I have contacted three other of the highest rated locksmiths on Angies list and gave them a photo of the gate with the measurements.  All three had different solutions.

    I met with Joe from Brucar and Doug from Finest Fence on June 16th.  Joe still insisted what he did was the only solution.  I asked them both to come up with a solution to fix the gate.  I emailed both companies photos, drawings etc.  I tried to tell Joe and show him what other locksmiths and Schlage said but he was insistent that what he did was the only solution besides a padlock.

    Amy emailed me shortly after my meeting with Joe asking me what Schlage said and I responded but after a week I had no response so I following up.  She told me that Joe was working 15 hrs a day and thanked me for my patience.  It has now been two weeks since I met with Joe and they have not contacted me to resolve this situation.

    I have attached photos that are supported by Angies list complaint resolution dept but I have additional drawings etc that support my argument.

    Update 9/16: The repairs to the gate were made and new deadbolt is now installed.  I?m attaching photos to show that it was indeed possible to do it correctly and that the fence company did not install the lockbox unevenly as Brucar claimed.

    Steve has performed work for my husband's business for many years, and has always done an excellent job. That's why we hired him to replace the knob and deadbolt on our front door and two others, so that they would be more secure and use the same key. We authorized Steve to replace the existing 5-pin locks with newer, 6-pin models and to select an elegant knob-deadbolt set for our front door, as the existing set was obsolete. We didn't discuss price. Steve and his assistant performed the work the next day. They did a very good job. However, my husband and I were shocked by the bill; we didn't imagine three sets of new hardware plus labor would come to nearly $875! Steve explained that, since we were very concerned about security, he installed commercial-grade hardware, which is more secure than those designed for home use. He also offered to get us a discount on a burglar alarm system. Steve is a good guy whom we like and trust, which is why we'll hire him again. The next time he works on our house, we'll get an estimate rather than make assumptions.
