4 Seasons Remodeling & Design Inc.
Few months ago, we hired Jacob at 4 Season Remodeling & design to do a major renovation at our house that included the kitchen, bathrooms, installation of new wood floor for the entire house on top of energy efficient double glass windows and all the doors (inside and out). We were very happy with the whole process of the work from the design stage all the way to the completion of the work. All the materials and finish products were selected by the help of Jacob and he made sure always that everything will be delivered on time so the project will not get any delays. Jacob is by far the most perfectionist when it comes to his work and his results are always at the highest quality. We are so happy that we hired him for our house and our next plan is to hire him again for our next remodeling of our backyard and front yard!

    Anavar Electric
I had never used Anavar previously so I was surprised by how quickly Rafi replied to my voicemail. Then he came right over and assessed the job (no charge). I appreciated that he suggested I pick up the new fan to save money and even went online to Home Depot with me to show me which fan to buy. After I picked up the fan and called him he came over and promptly installed it. Throughout he was very professional and offered me tips and suggestions. When finished he cleaned up very nicely. The price was much better than the electrician who performed the same work about 5 years ago.

    The House Next Door
The House Next Door provided the worst experience I have had with a contractor in 18 years of home ownership. I cannot urge fellow Angie's List members strongly enough to avoid this company.
If you must have any business with them, I suggest the following:
? Verify any claim they use to justify a cost overrun: In my case, Vic, their representative, requested a price increase (for tempered glass to meet code requirements) with the claim that my house is in a high fire hazard zone (VHFHSZ). Quick calls (later verified by email) to the county Building and Safety Office, and to my fire insurance agent, disproved that claim; And an estimate from another window vendor showed his figure for the glass upgrade to be inflated by 600%. Though I treated the claim (and inflated upgrade!) as an innocent mistake, the company offered no word of apology or explanation, which with other indications lead me to believe that such tactics are business as usual.
? Do not let them convince you to sign anything in a hurry ? either initially or for changes during the project. I regretted signing every contract and change order - especially the one that initiated this fiasco. You should take a day let the high pressure sales tactics fade before you sign.
After catching the false overrun claim, work on my project slowed to a crawl. I sent numerous text messages, photos, and 'reminders' to Vic of the scope of the project to bring some progress. Eventually my lack of trust and confidence in Vic and this company lead me to dismiss them from the project - a process that was neither pleasant, fast, nor ultimately a bargain (except for my peace of mind - and any subsequent troubles avoided). There was plenty of messy - and incomplete - work left behind, but I found their delays and evasions to be intolerable.
The quality of work was often laughably disappointing; Have you ever seen cracks in plaster 'repaired' with flexible bathroom caulk? ...Neither had I. Cracks began to appear almost immediately on their new drywall seams, and there is new paint over old bubbled paint (not properly prepped or sanded) that that could crack with a light push. The workers seemed to care about quality, and did some good work, so I suspect Vic's direction is responsible for the rushed and skipped areas.
If you are already involved in a job with The House Next Door, I urge you to be wary of their claims, and don't allow yourself to be pressured or gouged. Good luck!

    House Painting Inc
Paul and his team did a great job in painting both the exterior and interior of my home. He was very helpful in helping choose the colors. When I changed my mind on one of the colors after a part of the house was painted, Paul was very patient and understanding and the change was made without any problems. The job started and finished on time. The estimate that Paul gave was very competitive with other estimates that I got. I will use House Painting Inc for any future work I may need.

    Curtis Construction Services
Curtis Construction remodeled our bathroom and did a fantastic job!
They demolished the entire bathroom.  They installed new framing (for a new shower), new plumbing, electrical, custom made vanity that looks beautiful, stone counter tops, installed tile on walls and floor.
The tile guy was very professional and it came out awesome!  Looks like a piece of art.
We are very pleased with the service and the attention to detail by all the guys that worked in our house.
We will refer Daniel (Curtis Construction Services) to all of our friends and family.

    Southern CA Rolling Shutter
Richard who makes the sales calls was friendly and helpful. The installers were courteous and on time. Called in advance if they were delayed in traffic. They actually made two trips to complete the installation correctly, rather than just fudge something together that wasn't right. One of the shutters was to be installed over a window and adjacent screen door that opened outwards and needed to clear the shutter mountings. They didn't have the necessary parts with them on the 1st trip when they installed the other 2 shutters, so they came back to do it correctly on a 2nd visit. I was very satisfied with their work on this job and have used them 10 years earlier on a previous installation with similar satisfaction.

    BMO Kitchen & Bath Renovations
Flawless work. Our 1920's front door never fit the frame (too narrow and crooked on one side), now it does fit perfectly and there's no more huge gap that lets ice cold air in in the winter. Mike added hard wood on one side. The difficulty was that the gap was about 2" on the bottom and 0" on the top. So the wood had to be cut to fit.
The laundry room door had an old dog door in it from the previous owners. Mike took both doors with him, took the ugly plastic dog door out and replaced all the wood with solid hard wood, filled it all in and sanded everything smooth. Beautiful.
Our 1920's front entrance never had tiled steps on it, it was just bare painted concrete and ugly. Mike installed gorgeous pavers we had made for the curved (!) steps. A difficult installation, since everything is round. I wish I could send you pictures, looks fabulous. The value of the house has certainly increased!

    Baum Construction Development Inc
Everything went well. This was the smoothest of three remodels that we have undertaken. Michael Baum met us with Scott 2-3 times to understand what we wanted. Once we committed to his company, he provided us with an interior decorator who helped with the final decisions. Scott was the Baum supervisor for the project and was here daily. He lives relatively close. But Mike was here frequently- at least once a week, more often at the start, again more often as the project neared completion, when he and Scott were doing much of the touch up work. They kept us constantly updated as the project progressed. They did everything to assure a successful remodel. And they completed it in the time that they said that it would take, within budget.
It was always clean. The kitchen was closed off with plastic and a zippered door. We came home after the demolition, which, remarkably, took only one day, to find everything cleaned up. Each day that they were here ended in a cleanup. At the end of the remodel, the kitchen and the rooms adjacent to it (which were not dirtied by them), were cleaned
There were little bonuses as well. The old baseboards were, well, pretty trashed, so Scott cut new ones to match the size of the old ones in this 1929 house.  Scott provided a new board under the window that was narrower and more consistent with those in the rest of the house. They replaced the electrical switches, which was a wonderful touch. We really appreciated their attention to detail.

    Detail Painting Inc
They were easy to contact, called back within the day to set an time to meet.  They discussed our concerns and gave us a quote on the spot, following up with a formal written proposal.  They were ready to paint in a few days, but we had to push back the start date a couple of times.  They came out on time, just two guys.  There was a bit of a language barrier, but when I was unclear on something I called the office and got the answers I needed.  There was a bit of a misunderstanding about the plaster damage, but they were completely fair and generous, and we came to a compromise on the additional time and expense that we were very happy with.  They did an excellent job.  It has only been a few months, so we don't know how the paint will last, but it looks great and after this amount of time we have not found any substantial flaws.  We would recommend them to friends.

    I-Build Home Renovations
Ron came in on the estimate right on time and spent almost one hour in recommending various types of moldings and giving us some really good ideas as far as the type of doors to install and which hardware to use. He was very polite and patient with us as we have not had that much experience with remodeling. He brought in samples of various moldings and recommended which ones would go well with our home.
I hired Ron of I-Build Home Renovations to hang several doors in our master bedroom. He did a beautiful job hanging them. He also installed the hardware on them. He put new casing moldings around the doors. It looks great. He also put crown molding and base molding in the bedroom. All the joints came together beautifully. He was always on time. He cleaned up after himself. He is extremely neat and tidy. He is very polite. The end result was exactly what we wanted. He also stuck to his estimate. We would definitely use Ron again and have recommended him to friends.
