Everything was perfect! James called to confirm on his way out, he went over everything with me before the work was approved, and the job turned out just as I wanted it to. I was very impressed with James. I am very happy to finally have found a good, honest plumber who takes pride in his work. I will always call him back as my personal plumber, and refer him to my family and friends.

Benjamin Franklin Plumbing - Laguna Hills

Our experience was a mixed bag.

In the interest of complete fairness, I want to be clear that I wasn't at the house when the plumber did the work. My information is limited to a phone call I had with my mom (who was at the house) and the bill that I paid.

    The good:

    1. I was able to get on their schedule the day I called.

    2. They scheduled a visit that morning.

    3. The technician turned up on time and completed the work.

    The not so good:

    1. The bill was not only substantially  higher than what I've paid in the past, it was also substantially higher than what the dispatcher quoted me. As a result:

    2. The Angie's List coupon that I had purchased when scheduling the service was no where near sufficient to cover the bill.  Based on previous plumbing experiences and the dispatchers estimate, I bought a coupon which should have covered the cost of the work with a substantial cushion. That wasn't the case, and we paid the technician more.

    3. Again, I wasn't at the house but my Mom was uncomfortable with the approach provided by the technician. He tried several times to "upsell" several other services which would have cost several hundred dollars (I think nearly $1,000 if my memory serves me right).  Because we opted out of these other services, he said the work he did wouldn't have their normal guarantee.  The process made my mom very uncomfortable and while I'm very uncomfortable making accusations (especially when I wasn't there in person) these kinds of sales practices are not indicative of good customer service and are akin to the stereotypical old school nonsense where scare tactics are used to sell extra services and pad the bottom line.  Moreover, the technician claimed that the sink was backed up with cooking grease.  That might have been the case, I didn't see the evidence as I wasn't there, but I find that extremely hard to believe given our cooking and eating habits (we don't cook with grease and are very concerned about what we do eat... especially since the birth of my son 5 years ago).

Our sink has worked fine since.  This is the first Angie's List experience that we've had which wasn't exemplary and I feel a little uncomfortable potentially discrediting anyone when I wasn't there first hand but given the cumulative weight of factors, etc. I can't rate this vendor any higher than I have.

The provider saw the review below and corrected the communication lapse and expedited their efforts to complete the work.

I called today about 1:30PM to request a clogged drain/sewer service. The woman who took my call was courteous and professional. She said someone would be calling me in about 20 minutes to set up the appointment and confirm other details. The call never came.

    America's Plumbing
My son had a leak in his garage, near the water spigot located there, just inside the door.  Water was spreading fairly fast, but we couldn't locate the leak.  Not coming from the spigot, but filling up the planter just outside the garage door.  I suggested turning off the water to the house first and waiting an hr to see if the leak slowed.  It did not.  So I told him to turn it off at the street and we'd call a plumber in the morning.  I looked up local plumbers on Angie's list and found Americas plumbing.  They were highly rated and local, so I called them.  They had 2 guys out the next morning and they knew exactly what it was.  They started digging in the planter and it was a JOB!! Nothing but roots.  They must have dug for more than an hr and then they showed me the PVC coupling had cracked and was spraying water. I appreciate when they show me exactly what the problem is even tho I don't understand many of the terms, I can still see the problem.  They gave me 2 options, which I particularly liked: repair the pipe with a new coupling, or reroute the pipe .  I preferred the second option at $200.00 more, thinking it might prevent future problems.  When they were done, it didn't even look like anyone had been digging there!! The dirt was replaced, tamped down and they even replanted a couple of small plants that had to be removed to access the pipes.  The driveway and sidewalk was swept clean.  I appreciated their clean up work as much as the repair.  On a final note, I had printed off a 10% coupon that was on their Angie's List page, which saved us more!  I would highly recommend America's Plumbing and will use them again when I have the need.

The installation went well. All the parts we provided were used and we just paid for the labor.
We knew that if we were to pay for the part from the plumber the cost would be double.  If
any of the parts weren't used we would be able to take them back to the hardware store for
credit or refund. The job wasn't hard but just time consuming. We just put in a new kitchen
so all the parts and appliances were new.  The plumber glued up all the plastic and we have
    a nice clean dry finish.

    Roto-Rooter
I would not recommend them. The worth was okay. However, they were unreliable as far as time. The first time I called, they did not show up or call to say they would not be there. This happened twice. We only used their services because they were the only ones who could come out when we needed the work done.

    CHICK'S PLUMBING INC
I call Chicks from seeing their trucks in the area and he showed up promptly. I showed him the shower that had the original Moen faucets, that had the coin top. These are easily unscrewed to get to the screws. I checked in on him and saw him using a chisel to remove the top of the faucet. When I asked him what the heck he was doing, he said I can't get this darn thing off. I reached over him and used the palm of my hand. OMG. Then he informs me that he would have to bash a giant hole in my shower (through the tile) and replace the hole with a large steel plate, and it would only cost me $800.00 - Now being 'just' a girl, I get treated like a moron ALOT! Nevertheless, I threw him out immediately.
I called our realtor as a last result and he gave me the name of a wonderful and competant plumber who wasn't trying to take advantage of me.He fixed the problem in 40 minutes and it only cost me his one hour fee of $90.00 WOW AMAZING
He also told me I had the right idea, but even using an extension wouldn't work because whoever built the houses in Ocean Ranch, made the shower walls too thick to cover the original plumbing mistakes, and they don't sell them at the home repair stores.

I was leaving town the next morning and wanted to get the problem taken care of before I left. He came out at 7pm at night and worked on it until about 10pm. Really a tough job. Did a great job and a very nice person too.
