  • I have waited to write this review until the first 6 weeks recovery was reached. I had surgery on May 22 2017 and today is July 5th and I have been pretty much pain free! After suffering for 10 plus years and in chronic pain since September 2016 when we returned from out River Cruise. I tried everything that had worked in the past from my Chiropractic treatment to spine injections, steroids that caused 30 pounds weight gain and a nerve oblation procedure. They eased a little of my pain but only for a week or two...when my pain returned with a vengeance. When I finally agreed to consider surgery I met with Dr. Burdi. He was thorough in his examination, X-rays, MRI that he went over the results with me. He showed me how my L2&3 disc had collapsed and were now bone on bone causing my extreme pain. He said I was a perfect candidate for XLIF surgery side entrance to remove the collapsed disc. I was more impressed with his explanation of my problem and how the XLIF side entry surgery could fix & relieve my chronic pain than the Neurosurgeon's back surgery I was considering. Not only am I now pain free but my recovery has been every bit as amazingly easy as Dr. Burdi described. I am moving with such ease it is hard to believe I had major back surgery just 6 weeks ago. My little scares are healing and very small. Mission Hospital"s Spine Surgery floor was impressive and the staff very caring. I know understand how people love their Doctors and Dr. Michael Burdi is the best!

  • Everything is in one place there. Everything is just right there. You could get your blood work done there and you do not have to go to different places. Their service is very topnotch and well-organized but I have not had anything wrong with me where I really had to use them for anything else aside from the exams. They are very good on their availability but I do not know about the friendliness of their staff because I have only talked to one person there and that was it. The bedside manner of the doctor that I saw was very good but he is leaving now and I do not know who the next doctor is going to be. His communication skills were good but I have not had any treatments done there.

  • They have a list of professionals that they recommend through United Health Care. They manage referrals. They have very good physicians and we've been really impressed with the physicians. We have used the service for primary physicians and specialists as well.

  • .Making appointments is easy, and they usually call me to set a date and time. The care base been excellent and any specialized service is simple as they have all of the major test equipment, and it is just a matter of scheduling - no need for a review to decide if the treatment or test is justified

  • I loved it. I thought they were very professional as they always have. They gave me a choice of good medical groups and physicians. I really wanted to stay with them because I have found a new physician since we began the plan a year ago. Unfortunately, that plan had been discontinued. I have no problems with them whatsoever.

  • They were good. They were great. I have been with my doctor for 30 years. I was able to go to the doctor of my choice. They gave me some good choices on physicians that I stayed with my doctor for quite a few years.

  • They have excellent customer service and are really tuned in to what people are needing. They keep adding services to the medical plans, which are really helpful and more economical for seniors. For example, they've recently eliminated copays for specialists.

  • After the ER triage nurse saw me for a minute and being put in an exam room in the back, I felt like I was forgotten about for hours on end. The nurses did not know how to insert an IV. I had just had chemotherapy so I warned them which veins were bad and asked them to use my left hand and use lidocaine first. They refused and it took 5, yes 5 tries to insert the IV!!! It only worked on the fifth try because they listened and used the hand and lidocaine first. Talk about not listening to their patients. So there I lay in tears on a gurney (not a real bed) that had a vinyl mattress and a sheet that was folded and thrown on top. The elevated upper portion had no sheet covering it and my gown wasn't closed so my skin made contact with the thin, germy vinyl mattress. I was freezing because there was no one to ask for a blanket. The ER doctor seemed extremely put off with me after the IV insertions.
I was seen by an internist who was employed by the hospital. Hoag now has several doctors whose job is just to see patients in the hospital and/or make decisions for them based on their charts. Some of them never actually meet the patients and then send enormous bills for their services to patients.
Anyway, the ER staff there all looked extremely young...not the older nurses I remember from my childhood that gave Hoag a reputation for having caring nurses. From what I hear those nurses were all let go after the hospital started losing money last year.
I wasn't officially admitted or offered anything to eat until the next morning when someone came to wheel me to a room upstairs. I had been there since about 4 PM the day before! My experience upstairs was not much better than it was in the ER. I had to beg to be discharged 24 hours later after no sleep because of construction going on around me and fire alarms that sounded all night. I begged to leave and even agreed to home care and having an IV (midline) put in my arm so I could be given meds at home. The midline insertion was a nightmare. The lady inserting it told me I could cry all I wanted. Nice.
When my doctors finally agreed to discharge me at 9 AM that morning (my daughter's 11th birthday), I never realized the hospital would monkey around and make the discharge process last until after 6 PM so they could charge me for an extra day! I was told things like, "We are waiting for your discharge papers." "We are waiting for the pharmacy to send meds upstairs." "Oh, we have to check your vitals first. We will be right back.( 2 hours then passed.)" "We are at the end of the nursing shift. Your nurse is now in a meeting. You will be receiving a night nurse afterwards who will discharge you." "Oh, your blood pressure is too high to discharge you now."
I will never set foot in this place again. This place really takes the cake. I am not sure I would ever set foot in this hospital again.(

  • Last year I was there fourteen times and the last time I was in there for two weeks. I saw the hospital doctor, Dr. Kau, who is outstanding. He was a general doctor. The nurses are good, they listen and they communicate and all that, but they are so busy that they don't have all the time in the world that we might like them to have.

  • I was there overnight and then I went to Kaiser Hospital. It was a good experience and I was pretty impressed with their professionalism. They handled me right away. They were very assertive and under control. They did all the things that they needed to do and they sent me out over to Kaiser which is what Kaiser requested. All the testing was done well. The bills were enormous but Kaiser had to pay that and not me. When we go into an emergency room and say that we have a heart attack, we get very immediate service. The equipment was outstanding, new and modern. The doctors seemed very professional and right on top of everything. The staff was very fine and nice people. Their bedside manner was very good. There was no terrific amount of communication back and forth but it was friendly, to the point and helpful. It was a great experience and I thought they did it very well.
